So my wife is not going to miss a famous donut house like Federal. I was OK, we can go but did not get excited until we ordered the chicken sandwich. Super delicious. Even my father-in-law, who is a super picky eater enjoyed his sandwich. I knew he would enjoy his donut. They are donut pros!!! The guy serving us was really patient as the perused the donuts. I think I'm taking a star because of expectations, but I was ABSOLUTELY NONPLUSSED with this place! All I heard about Federal, was about how they were the best donuts in Philly. I would have been happier at Dunkin. Listen, the donuts weren't TERRIBLE, they just were positively nothing to get excited about. Small, dense and surprisingly flavorless. There weren't many choices, and even though some flavors were interesting, (pomegranate nutella, fig mascarpone) every donut tasted pretty much the same. Their FOOD food was no better, as the breakfast sandwich that we got also underwhelmed. It's basically a bacon, egg and cheese, on a potato bun, but the bacon was tiny and got lost in the super thick egg patty, the cheese wasn't melted, and the pepper relish just threw off the whole sandwich. The biggest transgression though was the cappuccino. I saw it on the menu for like $5 or $6 and I was like, "that's actually reasonable." Wrong. That shit was LITERALLY like 3 ozs. I'm not kidding. It might have been 1 oz of coffee and 2 oz's of foam. It came in basically a dixie cup. And, I got one with caramel and one with vanilla flavoring, but they didn't label either one; not that it mattered because they both tasted the same. An absolute disappointment. The staff was very friendly, and the space was nice, but I will not be going out of my way to ever come back here. This donut place is located on the parkway. While the selection of donuts wasn't as big as I would have liked- they had donuts that you make on site, Christmas themed donuts on display, and a selection of classic donuts. The space is really pretty with its open window layouts where you can see all the skyscrapers. The staff was quick with our order. We got a dozen of the hot donuts. I tried the Cookies N Cream and Strawberry Lavender. They were perfectly warm and soft. The Strawberry Lavender tastes amazing, but the Cookies N Crème didn't really taste like cookies and creme imo. I visited this place just before noon, so they still had plenty of options, but not a lot of other customers. It was a little hard to find the entrance, since I really didn't know the area, but no one is keeping me away from sweets. I bought a couple of donuts - fig mascarpone and banana cream (or it may have had a fancier name). Both were good, but I was especially impressed by the fig mascarpone, since that isn't a particularly common option and I didn't know what to expect. I was tempted to try something more, but I was about to head to eat lunch elsewhere. Despite that, the chicken was very tempting. If I get a chance to visit again, I'll probably try that. read more

I had heard that this local donut chain was one to check out when visiting Philly! It took some effort to find this location with Google maps which was frustrating, but eventually we found it. We had amazing service from the start - the staff was very friendly and walked us through the different donut and coffee options. We ended up splitting the sticky toffee banana donut (HANDS DOWN MY FAVORITE), the philly creme (good but odd the cream was on the outside), and a strawberry lavender hot donut (LOVE that they make these fresh and they definitely come out piping hot!). We also tried the fried chicken sandwich which was pretty good, but coming from the south, we definitely have higher expectations for fried chicken! The entry for this location is at the corner of N18th and Cherry St. they have about four tables outside with some seating. There's also some seats inside. I tried the peach Melba donut and it was spot on with that sweet fresh peach flavor. I tried to order the donut latte, but unfortunately they were out! They offered me a cinnamon latte instead, which was basically a latte with a heavy helping of cinnamon on top. It was okay, but I'm still intrigued by the donut latte! This location is across the street from a great small park to take your coffee and donut to afterwards. There is also a patio area that gets some shade. Solid cake donuts. The strawberry lavender is the signature flavor and it was very unique and nice (even though I do not usually like strawberry). My friends and I tried six different donuts and each had a different favorite. We were able to order quickly, there wasn't a line and they were well stocked with all the different flavors of donuts. Well this one started funny. After trying to figure out what to order at the register for about 4 minutes, I order a Chicken Sandwich. Pay. And have a seat while I wait. Shortly after I'm told they actually have no chicken for a chicken sandwich right now. -_- How do you 1) run out of one of the only proteins you have, 2) not let the person on register know this until after someone orders chicken, and 3) have school desk like set ups for eating. This place is what I call a joint. It's down the road from the Edgar Allen Poe historical house in Philadelphia. I never expected to find a donut place nestled there off of Fairmount. It's in the most unlikely locations. The counter inside looks like a refurbished bowling alley (really neat!). The young girl working there was super friendly which I always appreciate! I bought a box of donuts to bring home for my kids and a cup of coffee for me. My kids tore through these so fast I could barely get a picture. They taste homemade with really unique glazes. Love it!!! The coffee was just as good. If you are in the city it's definitely a joint to visit. There is a small parking lot for customers. Went there at 6pm. Essentially they have four items on the menu.... Donuts, chicken sandwich, chicken tenders and chicken salad. I can't eat sugar or large amounts of carb so salad and tenders were the only two items I could have. My husband ordered the chicken sandwich. I ordered the salad . Was told that they were out of the salad so I was frustrated but ordered the tenders. They took our name. We went to wait. There were two orders in front of us. 15 to 20 mins went by and then our name was called. My husband went to presumably pick up our food and we were then told sorry we are out of tenders? Really? Why didn't you know that when we first ordered. So there was nothing there I could eat. We asked for our money back but what irked me is the person wasn't even apologetic, I said it would have been nice to know this twenty mins ago and she said oh I didn't know. No offer for a free donut or anything. So we left and went to misconduct where they have the best chicken tenders and friendly service. I get that places run out of things but when there are four things on the menu you should not be out of two of them And if you do you should know it.
