Finally adopting a birdy family member and learned of Feathered Follies through Mickaboo :-) Such an awesome bird supply shop! Mathew welcomed us warmly and had a wealth of knowledge about bird care. Feel very lucky to have such a great shop in the bay area. The shop is small, but has incredible variety in parrot food, toys, perches, and miscellaneous supplies for birds of all sizes. I also love that they sell individual toy parts to make your own at home. Prices are reasonable for high quality items. We were also pleased to learn that they also provide grooming and boarding services! We certainly heard the peeps and chirps of very happy birds in the back room. I have shopped with FF since the 90's when they had a tiny place in Lafayette. I would walk by at lunch and play with the parrots in the window. Sometimes I would go in and play with them. The staff was always accomdating and informative. As they moved around I would visit from time to time. I couldn't keep a bird for a long time, and they happily let me get my fill from occasional visits. I finally got conures in 2015 and I go to FF when I can for supplies. I have boarded with them several times and my bird always seems to have a great time. She learns some new things, and never is angry with me for leaving her. read more

Omg! I love this place. I have visited the shop several times and Matt is Awesome! He provided me with great information on all the birds and he provided great tips on being a first time bird owner. I was able to spend time with some of the birds and really get to know them. My favorites were Roxy the Green Cheek Conure, Squiggles the Cockatiel and Tofu the Cockatoo. I'm planning to purchase/adopt a bird soon. I highly recommend visiting Feathered Follies. Feathered Follies is the only place we will get our birds from. We purchased 2 English Budgies and both times had a wonderful experience. They really do a fantastic job hand raising the babies. What impressed me so much was how well adjusted the birds were. They were socialized and so tame; my young children were able to handle and interact with them. It showed me how well taken care they were before bringing them home. The staff LOVE all their birds and it shows! As a new bird owner, I had a lot of questions. They were extremely thorough at going over how to care for them. The entire staff are very sweet, knowledgeable, and always available to help. They provide bag of food, toys, and a little cage to take home after purchasing. We could not be happier with our birds. Unfortunately this is the only bird store in the area but they don't have a lot to offer when it comes to supplies. It's very tiny and not really any cages as well as way over priced. Sometimes I come in and they are friendly and sometimes I feel extremely judged. If you have no other choice then yes but for more variety I'd make the trip to Roseville to the Bird Shop. read more

Mercedes the owner is a very cool and calculated young woman. Her words are soulless and empty of any real meaning. This is why she is not the face of the business. Anytime you look at pictures online you see her employee Stephanie. Stephanie is a very outgoing nice woman who has great communication. Mercedes does not. Everything she wrote was an act. If you see this person smile you'll see her visibly hurts her. I had no idea about the leg balance issue. She withheld this info for all I know. Well they won they already got my money. I knew nothing!! I was trapped!! Trapped because as my story showed, I love this bird, and I am not giving him up. They knew this and used my heart felt feelings against me. They should've done their due diligence before taking my money. Nope Mercedes wouldn't help one bit. she felt no responsibility whatsoever. Heartless!! Her saying that she saw no proof of this in action is also somewhat a lie. She possibly personally didn't see it in action personally . Stephanie did though and told me they had issues getting him out of the cage. Her words were because he was wobbly. Wonder why he was wobbly ‍why did they not wonder why for four months.‍. The owner then brought up that this wasn't an ongoing problem. Of course it's an ongoing problem. He's had this issue since early 2023. It's on record at the vet. Saying that it wasn't ongoing is just her excuse for not to take any responsibility. She knows she messed up. She then said I had three visits with him and I did! Again she hid or did not know about his medical things because of her lack of caring for the birds. I was not there doing sobriety checks on my bird! Asking him to walk a line he sat on my shoulder. I'm not a doctor and I assume when I spend $1600 I'm getting a bird that's been checked out. They gave me no reason to think that he was sick or had any injuries. when I got home and I really sat with him I saw it instantly. That is complete incompetence for a person that's responsible for these little birds lives. that's scary! I never said they coerced me into buying Ray. Please find that in anything I wrote. What I said is they knew after they had my money they had my money. I love Ray and I would never ever give him up. I am not heartless. I am a kind soul who's invested 30 years of his life loving and caring for animals. She also refused to speak with my doctor at the avian vet. She spoke to employees and one of the doctors that doesn't even know my bird‍. Mercedes is very good at painting her picture the way she wants. This made me feel so bad for all the birds that are there that are probably not getting the treatment they deserve.. This is just my opinion, of course, but I doubt Ray is an anomaly in this. Was I adamant about getting Ray those two tests absolutely! They should've had Ray ready to go before handing him over to me. They did not get him looked at before charging someone $1600 for an old bird with a limp. This is not rocket science this is common sense. Her lack of empathy on this is despicable. Personally with my business if this situation happened, maybe I wouldn't have met it to the exact specifications that the person is asking me but I would have a compromise. I would talk to them about it. I wouldn't be a coldhearted money, hungry human being. that's no way to live your life. I told her she could even write up a contract contract telling me that these two tests are in and then I'm done with you because again these should've been done day one!. Also, I would like to say what she took as threats was me saying going nuclear. that means just making sure everybody in the community and online knows what they did to me. After These test I'm gonna be $3500 dollars invested into Ray in a week and a half. Mercedes doesn't care because she has no heart. I'll finish the by saying do not believe a single word she says just meet her. If you meet her you will see that everything I said was probably pretty accurate. She's cold as ice as a human being. Shes barely as old as I've been in business myself. naïve as can be. She even told me herself she still learning. ‍ great I'm glad I could help you with that. Avoid that company. What a disaster. Don't be her learning lesson. It'll cost you a lot of money. At the end of the day, Mercedes is keeping it all! Happy to share the emails as there's nothing bizarre about them. I have four of the most amazing loving birds because of the help and guidance from Mercedes, the owner. Four years ago I got a rescued parakeet who was found on the streets. Mercedes ALWAYS took the time, and still does, to answer my questions about care, you name it. She's so patient and very knowledgeable. My second bird was a baby Cockatiel I bought from them and their breeder that they absolutely love! He is the perfect boy! This is going to be long. TLDR at the bottom. I have an African Grey parrot. She's five and half and is our first baby. Last week we visited this store to get some food supplies / perches and nail grooming. We spoke with Mercedes about our needs and she was helpful and answered all our questions. She offered to place an order for some things which we needed but they didn't stock them currently. Eventually we got to bird grooming time and we were told humans are not allowed to go with the bird while they're being groomed. My husband didn't love this policy and we're very careful with not leaving our bird alone with someone unless it's a medical emergency. However, our regular groomer was not available and the nail situation was bad so decided to go with it. Bird was back in a few minutes looking alright. We looked around the store for other supplies we needed and spoke with Mercedes about other needs before leaving about 15 minutes later. As soon as we got home and opened the carrier, I saw red blood marks on the top support bar and the paper (see pictures). I then inspected my bird and to my horror there was dried blood on her left toes! I called the store and inquired about whether there had been an accident during grooming and they told me no incident happened. I told Mercedes about the toe blood and she said its normal since we use clippers that this might happen. I've been a bird owner for more than 5 years and not once during any of her previous regular grooming has this happened. I told the owner, I understand that accidents happen but I did not appreciate them not letting me know something has happened. I would've immediately applied first aid (blood stopper) that I keep in the car! She suggested that the bleeding must have happened during the drive home, but it doesn't explain the blood marks on the top bar, nor the hurt behavior after coming home. Our bird clearly did not cut the toe herself! During the 6 minutes call, Mercedes didn't seem apologetic at all. I wasn't looking for a refund of services rendered, nor any money for vet bill, just some empathy and a simple apology would have sufficed but neither was offered! At the end, she said "I don't know what else to tell you" and I just gave up. Since yesterday, our bird has been sitting on one leg for long durations, which is abnormal behavior for her, clearly hurting on the left leg. I'm appalled at the lack of care for a simple activity that most birds go through every few months. TL;DR took bird for grooming, they cut her leg skin and bird bled; they didn't inform me and didn't seem surprised when i informed them. read more

Their love of birds (both the ones for sale and those belonging to customers) is evident in everything they do. I adopted a love bird last month from this nasty place. On their website they say it is very important that the bird and new friend are compatible. Not only me and My new lew little love bird were not working well together and my 93 year father fell extremely ill. feaththered follies took my short term lititle friend back but refused any sort of money rebate. I'm sorry they took my my money and doubling their profit on my bad situation. I have a super bird cage I got when I adopted my little love bird. The owner, Mercedes wouldn't even take the sparkling clean cage back. Mind you, I'm not a novice bird owner. I had a love bird for about 12 years. Homer traveled with me EVERYWHERE. I can not say enough about this awesome place. I have rescued 3 birds from them - each with unique personalities. A white-bellied caique, and two cockatiels (at different times). Mercedes is a font of knowledge and is always ready to sift through any concern or issue and come up with various ways to make it better for both the bird(s) and humans! She seems to know everything. Mercedes is kind, friendly, conscientious, and genuinely cares about all the birds in her care (and yours) and ensuring they have an exceptional quality of life. The adoption process may seem lengthy - but how better to ensure you know what you are getting in to, are prepared to deliver top care to your new family member (which fits in with your family), and ensure that each bird gets a chance in a good forever home! The services that are offered like grooming and boarding are always top notch and I would highly recommend them. All three of my birds (even the hard to please one) come back from their "spa days" happier and healthier. Once when my caique - a happy and lovingly sweet soul - was being a bit ornery, I was called to see if I knew this was happening and if anything could be wrong or if something had changed or happened that day or previously that might be upsetting him. When I collected the sweet nonsense, we figured out that it was because of all the new growing feathers - he decided to do grow a few all at once. Lots of cuddles and some extra treats were prescribed and he was right as rain before I even walked out the door. He is always eager to go back. Since 2015 I know this place and I always went for grooming and buying seeds and other stuff for my birds but before covid the old manager left and Mercedes took over this business, they lost their shop and had to get somewhere to stay and ask their customers for support well I did my support and never changed my place even when their struggle to finding the products that they used to have, but since they improved their business again and got the bigger space their customer service is changed and don't care about their old customers it's been few months that I am waiting to get the appointment for grooming and never received call back from them I even spoke to Mercedes which is the manager there she seems careless and just saying that out groomer doesn't work many hours and she doesn't care at all instead of care she said go somewhere else like bird medical center , after these many years I am decided to go somewhere else sadly and wishing good luck to them. read more
