I would stay away from this place in the future. My dog was involved in an incident over a month ago where my dog did not receive any medical treatment nor a trip to the ER. I took my dog to the ER myself after picking him up. Employees stated that they didn't even notice he had 3 BITE MARKS ON HIM and he was with them for about 3 1/2 days. The manager, Julie, reached out to me about a week after it happened and I still have no received a call or email back on an update. During my conversation, she states that there was obviously miscommunication with what she told them and what they told me in turn, and she would get to the bottom of it. It's been over a month now and nothing. I've reached out and nothing. I wish I read deeper into the reviews since apparently a dog died here in their care. read more

I took my big dog there for the day. The webcam showed the dogs all just standing around in in a room very very crowded with dogs. A bored young person was wandering around listlessly. It didn't look healthy or fun for my dog. The dogs poop in the same room they are standing in. Yuck. They said they have rest time when they take the dogs out and clean the floors which is a point in their favor. It's a franchise. This is not a real kennel but more of a big empty warehouse space divided up into rooms with partitions based on dog size. I would say that they probably keep the dogs safe but it is more like a holding pen than a play space. There are just too many dogs in too small of a space. They don't don't interact with each other much. There was no running or wrestling or chasing like you would normally see at a kennel. I guess that's because of the crowding. Must be a dog thing when not enough space. I got my dog back at the end of the day safe and sound so that's good. But I would like to see my dog having fun too. read more

Our terrier who is crate trained came back 4 days after being boarded here and is now pooping in his crate and everywhere. I don't think this place is attended at all times as we tried multiple times to reach someone to check on him and got no one. I am very frustrated that as of two days later after calling them and hoping to get some answers NO ONE has called me back. Shady business. Stay away. Where do I start?! This place is great and they let the "dogs be dogs". If you have a high energy dog or even a mellow dog the workers really get the job done. My puppy Nala is now a regular here and has made so many friends. Their prices are affordable and she comes home extremely tired. This review is long overdue but this most recent experience with Dogs Will Play absolutely deserves a review at the very least. I cannot thank them enough for all they do for our Laila Bear. We had to go out of town and the day after we dropped her off, we were told she was not feeling well. The staff offered to take her to their vet but we were able to make arrangements for Laila to get the meds she needed through our vet. The staff at Dogs Will Play ensured our baby felt better, played with her separately until she felt better enough to re-join the group, and bathed her before we picked her up. I called twice a day while we were gone and each time they gave me a detailed update as to how Laila was doing and posted pictures of her on their Instagram. They truly took such incredible care for her the week we were gone. I seriously cannot thank them enough for all they do and am so grateful for their love and care for our fur baby. read more

My dog was able to run around before and after he was groomed because they don't crate the dogs. Staff here are great, you can tell they care a lot about the dogs and love them! It's super easy to drop off/pick up, basically just walk the dog in and they take it from there. I'm usually in and out within 3 minutes, which is helpful when I'm running to work in the morning. I like that they post daily pictures and videos on their Instagram, and I can see my dog LOVES being there! The only thing I don't love is that our dog comes home smelling like pee. I know it is bound to happen when they are running around with a ton of other dogs who have probably peed on the floor and whatnot. So I get it, it just seems a bit intense sometimes when I get her. Especially after boarding her, seems like it could use a little improvement. But honestly that's a small issue that really doesn't effect my overall view of the establishment and I am happy my dog comes here! read more

We LOVE Dogs Will Play! Our pup Duke is a regular there now a days and he absolutely is as happy as can be. My husband and I work long shifts in healthcare and appreciate their long and flexible hours and the fact that they open at 6:30am during the week! He is wagging his tail and so happy around Devin, in particular, and I am so impressed with the progress he and the staff have made with Soju's initial timidness and dog social anxiety. I love that they are open earlier and closed later than any other dogcare facility I was able to find because it actually ends up being the only (and BEST) option for me given my work schedule. Dogs will play are the best value (while being the most reasonable cost wise) and execute the best hours all the local daycares. Never mind what they post - people are early every weekday and they accommodate without extra charges! They have happily accommodated Bella for overnights without notice multiple times when my plans changed unexpectedly. They are detailed and attentive to her food allergies, and are diligent and organized about administering daily medications. I trust the staff completely, and I adore them. When Bella gets a bath there after an overnight stay, she comes home smelling scrumptious. They blow all competition away. I truly do not know what I would do without them. All services are worth every penny we invest. Our baby is always excited to go in and always a happy camper when we pick her up. read more

I really wanted to wait and test DWP out before writing a review, and I am so pleased to report that we've been here for 2 months and they absolutely deserve these FIVE STARS. Cliff notes: great for boarding and day care, small dogs, friendly, close to Bart. I adopted 9 pounds of poorly adjusted, occasionally anti-social, sometimes schizophrenic, but always absurdly cute, chihuahua of doom. I have worked with this hot mess for 3 years and now she's stable and happy. Terrified of back-slide I have always been very, very careful about where I take her for care. Initially, I was put-off because DWP does not segregate big dogs and small dogs; but turns out this has been great for my little dog. Now when we go to the dog park, she is super-confident and can totally hold her own with the big dogs. She also kind of hates dudes and being around the infinitely patient guys at DWP has made her amenable to male strangers at the dog park; she even let them pet her, a heretofore unseen phenomenon. She's also madly in love with one of the female DWP caretakers. I think she whisper barks her name in her dreams. The tell tale sign of her happiness with DWP is she can't wait to get in the door. She genuinely seems to enjoy being there and that makes me so happy and alleviates the guilt I feel about leaving her for the work day. I also leave her every other weekend (my BF works in an ER; scheduling nightmare) and hotel is 20% cheaper than our former day care (also super great, Every Dog in Emeryville). I was looking at the recent less than great reviews and they do not resonate with my experience of their customer service or level of care at all. read more

I'm really torn about my feelings toward this place; I've been a few times with my puppy, and have always had a good experience. The staff is very friendly, which is also nice. However, the last time that I dropped my pup off around mid November for the 3 hour doggie-play date, when I picked him up, he had 6 extremely deep scratches all around his torso. I noticed them when I picked him up, but didn't realize just how deep the scratches were until I walked out into the sun. Now, don't get me wrong-- I get it -- dogs can play rough with each other, it's their nature. But I figure this is where the employees should perhaps regulate, if it seems like they are playing too rough. My dog's scratches ended up breaking out into infected hives that he is STILL healing from. I know sometimes they are short staffed, but I think that if they only have one person who can't keep track of a large group of dogs playing, they should hire more people. My last experience was very upsetting and I am not sure if I will return. read more

I was going away for the night and it was planned at the last minute. Every place I called was booked and I didn't trust anyone enough to give a key to my home to pet sit. I was really nervous about leaving my dogs at a boarding place. I had never boarded my 2 lb dog before. When I called Dogs will play they were able to set up a meeting with my dogs right away. On September 2nd, 2017, our 5 year old pup, Lyla, was bitten by another dog and bled to death while boarded at Dogs Will Play. Our family is shocked and heartbroken over our loss caused by this facility's negligence and the subsequent incompetency it's owners and employees demonstrated managing this incident. I will detail the cold facts for you to carefully take into consideration before leaving your beloved pet at Dogs Will Play. On Monday Sept 4th at 1:19pm, I received a phone call from Ruby Liu (one of the facility's owners) informing me that Lyla had been bitten by another small dog and had succumbed to her injuries. In Ruby Liu's words, "an employee who was unfamiliar with their drop-off protocol" left the small dog playroom unattended to check in a new arrival at the Front Desk. During her absence, a dog bit Lyla on the stomach, piercing a major organ, and she bled to death. We don't know how long Lyla lay on the floor bleeding to death before an employee discovered her body. We do know, per the vet report, that she was dead on arrival when David (a Dogs Will Play employee) brought her in. The vet report stated Lyla was brought in at 11:41am on Saturday Sept 2nd. No one from Dogs Will Play contacted us until Monday Sept 4th at 1:19pm... this is inexcusable. Why take so long to contact us, why? When asked, Ruby Liu informed me that the employee was too distraught to make the call. Where were the other employees, the owners? Not one single representative of this facility attempted to contact us immediately following the incident. Due to this facility's poor management, negligence, and incompetency, our beloved Lyla died. Our sole purpose writing this review is to ensure no other family has to go through our heartbreak. Please, we beg you to carefully consider our devastating experience with this facility before you leave your beloved pet in their care. Please. read more
