I was watching them in action today. I didn't get what was happening as I didn't see a fire or anything. Why was there like 5-7 fire trucks? No clue. But d#%¥, some of the dudes were hawt and I didn't want a tradegy to bum me out anyways. Hot eye candy and no tears. Thank random gifts in life. I take what I can get and enjoy it. No questions, just "thank you" from this dude. I discovered their fire station is really close to where I was working. It's a little too much to know they were less than a block away. Life is so seductive sometimes. Needless to say, I got to setting up a date after work. Productive day. XOXO for the random motivation. Does it make sense to date in a city I don't live in? Hardly and yes if you saw what I saw. I'm drunk on the hawtness.

It's that type of next y'all

When I got out I feinted and needed medical attention. I couldn't see in the sunlight for an entire day and hadn't slept the entire 3 nights because It's 50 degrees and I was shivering so intensely the entire time that I lost 7 lbs. my system was in survival mode not letting me sleep to lower my temp in case I didn't wake up. That's not even the worst part. They denied me more than one phone call or help to feed my cat since I live alone. I screamed cried and begged for three days to get her food and water and they laughed in my face calling me a crazy cat lady. My cat barely survived and now cries and howls for hours on end every time I leave the house because she was traumatized. These 5 stars goes out to the most exceptional outstanding human being you will ever encounter while being locked up here. CO Jason Soto #554. This man gets called all sorts of names, is berated and verbally abused by the various animals that pass through this system and yet he maintains his composure and treats all of us exactly the same. He takes time to acknowledge every prisoner and tries to answer all their questions to the best of his ability. He repeatedly fetched cups of water, toilet paper and food whenever he could to try and accommodate everyone. I would say this man deserves a promotion but then he would have to be moved away from all the detainees who NEED a person who's so compassionate and patient in a situation like that. Thanks a lot Soto, but I hope I never see you again. Edit: SMH&FML...I accidentally violated a no contact order to help save 3 children from abuse and neglect so unfortunately I have to turn myself in again. Hopefully the time is cut in half this time and Officer Soto is there again during my stay.

NYC Fire Museum is a must see if you love these brave men and women like I do. We have come along…read moreway and have the best Fire Department on the planet to me. I thought I did a review because it's been years since I visited. I was drawn to this business page because on this morning's news they said what they called the Firefighters Museum (and they said it is on Prince Street), was closed! They said it was closed indefinitely because of structural issues in the 120 year old building where the museum is housed. I've searched the web and this is the only museum I can find related Fire Departments and the history of Firefighters in NYC. I'm finally doing my review so you will check before you visit. This museum may be temporarily closed. I'm going to look for my additional photos to post. It's definitely an overdue review!

It was less exciting than I'd hoped--I guess I'd expected to see, I don't know, like one fire truck that looks like the ones in his books--but it was still a worthwhile stop, and he enjoyed himself quite a bit. The museum is small, housed in an old fire station in Hudson Square, with exhibits spread out across a couple of floors. You enter and exit through the gift shop, which is also where you purchase tickets. The guy at the register was very nice, and we bought three adult tickets (mom, dad, grandma) at $10 apiece, all so the little one, whose ticket was "free," could enjoy fifteen minutes roaming among the firefighting artifacts. I think we were the only visitors the entire time we were there. We saw a handful of old fire engines spread out between the two floors, and these were pretty cool, and Leo recognized them as fire trucks of sorts and enjoyed looking at and discussing their big wheels. He was less interested in the smaller items, which would probably be intriguing to slightly older kids. We also kept him out of the 9/11 memorial room, which seemed less designed for boisterous toddlers than the rest of the place, but which we adults appreciated. I honestly think our kid's favorite part of the museum might have been the gift shop, where I discovered that my son understands the concept of buying things and taking them home. He wanted every fucking variant on a fire truck toy--squishy and plastic, small and large; ambulance, van, engine. We settled on a big fire truck with an extendable ladder, which is now one of his favorite toys. It was over $40 and one of the stickers started peeling off pretty immediately, but I do think it's reasonably solid quality. We bought the same one for a friend's two-year-old, as well as a soft toy for his baby sister, both of which went over well. We also got an FDNY T-shirt for Leo, so the museum made a decent amount of money off of us. I'm guessing we didn't see all there was to see, but as our two-year-old wasn't clamoring to learn about the fire department's history, I think we did things right. We had a pleasant visit at the NYC Fire Museum and would recommend it if you or your small ones are fascinated by firefighting.

4.5 stars. My partner and I had an excellent meal during Restaurant Week. I knew this was a…read moretapas-style spot and worried the portions would be too small, but they didn't skimp at all. I actually had to pack some food to go. We split the scallop ceviche, yellowtail crudo, corn dumplings, pulpo a la Mokyo (octopus skewer), Berkshire ribs, fried rice with lobster, and bread pudding. My easy favorites were the yellowtail crudo (I scooped up every last bit of the salsa macha) and, much to my surprise, the corn dumplings. The filling was decadent and savory, a luxuriously fluffy cloud, and though I'm not a truffle fan, it was such a light touch that I smelled more than tasted it. The octopus was tender and nicely charred, with bites of potato, but the flavor wasn't particularly memorable. The scallops were buttery smooth and delicious, milky yet refreshing with tiger's milk and grape slices. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender with a sweet and savory sauce, though the muhammara dip felt random, almost like an afterthought. The fried rice had more lobster pieces than expected, and although I thought the XO sauce overpowered the flavor of the meat a little, it was still tasty. I'm glad we had the ribs and lobster together so there was starch to balance out all that meat. Unfortunately we could only pick one dessert to split. I wanted to try the pop rocks, but we ended up compromising on other dishes and getting the bread pudding. My partner enjoyed it, but I'm not really a bread pudding fan, so it was unsurprisingly a bit too sweet and heavy for my taste. I did like the contrast of warm and cold with the vanilla bean gelato though. Some dishes were really inventive, and I already know I'll be thinking about the corn dumplings from time to time!

Winter Restaurant Week Review 5/6-…read more I went to this popular Korean-ish restaurant around a week ago for Winter Restaurant Week. The menu is $45 here for four courses, though the dessert is split between two people, so I guess it's more like three and a half courses. The place was very loud in the front, by the bar, as well as at most tables near it, but we were thankfully seated in the back, which was a little quieter. We were waiting a bit for the last person, so a couple of us ordered drinks. I went with the Tenryo Koshu 'imperial landing' Junmai Daiginjo, which is $17 per glass. As per the name, this isn't just a junmai daiginjo but rather a koshu, or aged sake. This style is uncommon in Japan and quite rare in the US, except for some sake bars. The age of koshus can range from a couple of years, such as this one, aged 3 years, to much older, such as Daruma Masamune, which almost tastes like a blend of cognac or brandy and sake. This was a mildly dry mouth-coating sake with a bit of fruitiness, and was delicious. Another person enjoyed the $14 Lychee Reach Rich with soju, lychee, and mango, a collaboration with Thursday Kitchen, and it had a fun presentation with a light inside. All alcohol aside, the first course was mostly a choice between various crudos. I went with the Scallop Ceviche with tiger's milk and sunchoke. There was a good handful of sweet scallops, and the sunchokes added a bit of crunch. Aside from sweetness, I would not have minded some heat or citrus, but otherwise it was tasty. Another person liked the Yellowtail Crudo with salsa macha & grapefruit, and I might try that next time. For the second course, I went with one of their signatures, the Corn Dumpling with truffle salsa verde. The dumpling had a light skin, and the inside was sweet and salty from some cheese sprinkled on top. The salsa verde was herbal, with a bit of a kick and a mild truffle flavor. This was enjoyable, and I can see why it's popular. Another person liked the Wagyu Oxtail Spring Roll with kohlrabi kimchi. My third course, the Fried Rice X Lobster with XO sauce, was alright. There was a bit of lobster in there, and the dish had some good crispy rice with a bit of scallion on top for freshness. The sauce had a good kick but lacked a lot of umami, so it almost felt more like a chili crisp than an XO sauce. This was decent, but I would get something else next time if I were to go here again. Another person who tends to avoid spicy food enjoyed the Berkshire Rib with soy and muhammara. For dessert, we chose the Injeolmi Mousse with cocoa leaf and hazelnut. The mousse itself was soft, with a nice roasted soybean flavor, and the hazelnut added some crunch. While not the biggest dessert to split, it was still tasty, and I would recommend it. Some others liked the Bread Pudding with bourbon sauce and Valrhona Jivara vanilla bean gelato. This wasn't the most filling restaurant week meal, but we had a good time, though I probably would have disliked my experience much more if we had sat in front, as it was way too loud. Not everything worked, but it was worth it for $45. Mid 3 rounded up (would have been rounded down if we were in front.)
