Kasey facilitated an analysis of the feet while walking/standing, explained the results, and recommended various options accordingly. My husband tried HOKA, New Balance, and Adidas shoes and ended up having trouble deciding between two. Kasey helped him consider price/appearance to complete his decision! She was also excellent at engaging in conversation and providing informative, friendly service. We were in and out of the store in probably 20 minutes with a new pair of shoes/socks for little over $100! Darien Running Co was an excellent stop during our weekend away from NYC. I highly recommend!

I have mixed feelings about this running shop…read more On the plus side, i generally have had good service there. Everyone has been friendly and they have a nice selection of typically popular running shoes and accessories. They also have a bit of a running community with occasional product tests/races/practice runs etc. On the other hand, they have a practice which I can only characterize as annoying but perhaps necessary from their point of view. Unlike every other running store I've ever been to, they make you get socks off the rack at their store to try on (even if you bring your own clean, washed socks). I was under the impression you had to buy the socks and that was certainly the implication when they took socks off the rack and ripped open the package. Somebody messaged me on YELP saying that is not the case but that was certainly not clear to me. Especially when they literally said to me "Don't worry, they'll be discounted" and it was not clear to me what the price was of the socks I was directed to (i later found out they were over $18 and the "discount" was about $5...so in other words, it certainly seemed like I was paying $13 just to try on shoes). Perhaps its just a sanitary thing and not an extra charge but the employees should be crystal clear about that. They were not. Perhaps a sign when you walk in would make this clear (if there was one, i did not see it) as its just casually brought up when you ask to try on shoes. At any rate, if they do charge you (or at least suggest you buy the socks discounted), I get why they do this. I mean, once you find a shoe you like, you can likely get it online cheaper and i'm sure people just come in to try stuff on and then want to leave. This would be a way to force people to pay for something. But, I like to support small and local businesses so I would not do that. However, not allowing me to wear a clean pair of socks (or even having standard "try on socks" like most stores do for customers), I feel is a bit...well..annoying.

Yes, they most definitely carried clothes for the typical mommies running around Fairfield County. To me, it was like I found their uniform shop - lol! But aside from these "typical uniforms" you see on most of the local Stepford wives, Chou Chou also carried plenty of unique, interesting clothing & accessories. I happily walked out with some nice new clothes. What was most impressive was the helpful and friendly staff. Where do you get that type of service these days? In very few places, sad to say. Here at Chou Chou, the staff was excellent. I will most definitely make this place part of my shopping arsenal from here on in.

But they don't treat their customers with the courtesy one would expect from a boutique in an upscale area. Target treats their customers with more respect. I bought a $400 dress that ripped after two wearings. It was a summer dress and didn't realize it was ripped until I pulled it out to wear in summer 2024. I brought in and they told me too bad, too late??? It was over a year. Suggested I call the company myself. This wasn't some cheap dress. I though incorrectly that they would stand behind their merchandise. I have spent at least $ 5,000 between their Rye and Mt Kisco stores and expected to be treated like a valued customer. Did I expect a 400 credit? No. But at least something to recognize the dress was and defective and acknowledge my business. Some kind of credit. I will never shop here again. Be warned.

Beyond personable, I felt like I knew these two lovely ladies forever. I was greeted with a smile immediately when my husband and I walked in the store. I tried on a super cute boot in a size that was a bit too tight. Maria instantly called another store and the boot was in Darien that afternoon. I couldn't ask for better service. Such a breath of fresh air as I did NOT have the same experiences in fellow stores. It's so easy to be nice and these women have it down. Just have to exercise self control and not spend so much money there! Will definitely pop in to say hello when in the neighborhood.

I have clothes I bought there 10+ years ago and I still get compliments. Last week I was wearing a hooded lightweight purple raincoat and a woman nearly accosted me on the street--"I love it, where did you get it?, I want one." She was so enthusiastic I might have given it to her (I have another in sage green!) except it was raining! On the train this week, another woman went on and on about my purse. This spring's purchases of a flowered dress and fancy black skirt and tie dye linen top have all been big hits. They are comfortable, easy to maintain, and fun to wear. Pam is an extraordinary shop owner with the best eye for fashion, both in terms of her buying for the store but helping her clients find what is most attractive for them. I highly recommend her Aquarius for great fashion, excellent service, good value, and clothes that put a smile on your face! Connie P 914.393.6540

Darien sport shop seems to have survived the online revolution with help from, you guessed it Santa…read moreClaus. Every year Santa comes and kids line up from across the country to sit on his lap and tell them what they want. In Darien, that could be a new Canada goose jacket (available at DSS) or a new pair of Nordic skis (available at DSS). Maybe even a new Range Rover (not available but DSS can order it). And for the adults who brave the intense December line to catch a glimpse of the big guy, they setup a makeshift bar (no charge of course) with Bloody Mary's, Mimosas, Beer, Wine, all the fixings. Back to Santa, did I mention this guy is the real deal? He claims that he runs a bird seed shop in the off season, lol. Yea Kringle, I ain't buying it. Or they OVER buy on a trend from the 2000's....There's no variety. There's nothing that makes this place worth a visit. Most of the staff is just as uninspiring. They offer a halfhearted greeting when you walk in, but beyond that, they're completely disengaged--mostly standing around with their arms crossed, looking like they'd rather be anywhere else. Which makes sense because they barely make minimum wage, which is concerning considering how much the owner walks away with year after year. I probably wouldn't be inspired to help customers either. It's pretty obvious that the owner of this store couldn't care less about their employees--or their customers, for that matter. Unless you're looking for outdated clothes and indifferent service, I'd recommend shopping elsewhere.
