Every year Santa comes and kids line up from across the country to sit on his lap and tell them what they want. In Darien, that could be a new Canada goose jacket (available at DSS) or a new pair of Nordic skis (available at DSS). Maybe even a new Range Rover (not available but DSS can order it). And for the adults who brave the intense December line to catch a glimpse of the big guy, they setup a makeshift bar (no charge of course) with Bloody Mary's, Mimosas, Beer, Wine, all the fixings. Back to Santa, did I mention this guy is the real deal? He claims that he runs a bird seed shop in the off season, lol. Yea Kringle, I ain't buying it. Tell those elves at the North Pole that the socks you brought me in '94 were bull$#&!. Jk I'm a good boy I take it back.

Or they OVER buy on a trend from the 2000's....There's no variety. There's nothing that makes this place worth a visit. Most of the staff is just as uninspiring. They offer a halfhearted greeting when you walk in, but beyond that, they're completely disengaged--mostly standing around with their arms crossed, looking like they'd rather be anywhere else. Which makes sense because they barely make minimum wage, which is concerning considering how much the owner walks away with year after year. I probably wouldn't be inspired to help customers either. It's pretty obvious that the owner of this store couldn't care less about their employees--or their customers, for that matter. Unless you're looking for outdated clothes and indifferent service, I'd recommend shopping elsewhere. Yes, they most definitely carried clothes for the typical mommies running around Fairfield County. To me, it was like I found their uniform shop - lol! But aside from these "typical uniforms" you see on most of the local Stepford wives, Chou Chou also carried plenty of unique, interesting clothing & accessories. I happily walked out with some nice new clothes. What was most impressive was the helpful and friendly staff. Where do you get that type of service these days? In very few places, sad to say. Here at Chou Chou, the staff was excellent. I will most definitely make this place part of my shopping arsenal from here on in.

I brought in and they told me too bad, too late??? It was over a year. Suggested I call the company myself. This wasn't some cheap dress. I though incorrectly that they would stand behind their merchandise. I have spent at least $ 5,000 between their Rye and Mt Kisco stores and expected to be treated like a valued customer. Did I expect a 400 credit? No. But at least something to recognize the dress was and defective and acknowledge my business. Some kind of credit. I will never shop here again. Be warned.

Beyond personable, I felt like I knew these two lovely ladies forever. I was greeted with a smile immediately when my husband and I walked in the store. I tried on a super cute boot in a size that was a bit too tight. Maria instantly called another store and the boot was in Darien that afternoon. I couldn't ask for better service. Such a breath of fresh air as I did NOT have the same experiences in fellow stores. It's so easy to be nice and these women have it down. Just have to exercise self control and not spend so much money there! Will definitely pop in to say hello when in the neighborhood.

I have been donating clothing and jewelry to the shop for more than 25 years. The DCA has always…read morebeen an outstanding Darien Organization because they donate to many groups and provide Scholarships to local students. Lately however there are new people who are hurting the time-honored reputation of the shop. On my last visit, I was dropping off fairly expensive clothing. A man likely in his seventies, told me in no uncertain terms that I could only bring 3 bags at one time ! He really did not seem to have any idea of the value of the items and was very rude and almost hostile! He never called any of the regular staff to evaluate the articles and I left feeling put-out and sad to say the least. In the future I will donate to The New Canaan Thrift Shop, which has a much friendlier staff, even though I live in Darien.

One of the things I really like about the store is it's dog friendly! I took my pup in with me to check out some of the dog travel crates, and it was nice being able to take him with me to check his size against what they have on display. Owner is always there and is cold and unfriendly. There are better places in the area to give your business to and look for a treasure!
