I'm one of those people who does heavy research when buying something of significant value. I spent months researching for a good photographer, both this year, and last year (I actually chatted with German briefly over email last year). I ended up choosing German and I definitely made the right choice. The really nice thing about German was basically the level of knowledge he has, not just on photography, but what works well for dating photos, but also the fact that he offered a very custom experience. In terms of personalization, he asked me questions regarding what I did for work, what I was looking to get out of the shoot, what type of pictures I enjoyed, what sort of environments I liked in the back of photos, and he also asked me to describe my personality. He used all of this to give me a suggestion for a place, as well as give me cool suggestions to put me in cool positions for very authentic, casual, attractive action shots and poses, which was what I was looking for, and it very much matched what I was looking for in pictures. This also leads in nicely to his knowledge. He scheduled the date for a specific time of day when photos would turn out best. He had really good suggestions in terms of locations, we went in some great directions in front of very artistic looking backdrops, getting some very unique ones which were different enough to look like they were taken on different days. He helped make sure my shirt wasn't tucked in some weird fashion, he let me know if I was slouching and basically gave me a lot of "solicited" tips (I wanted really great pictures and told him I wanted very direct feedback and help. I'm sure he could have a more laid back session but he personalized it this way for me) and basically he made sure I was looking my best at all times. I got to change through a couple of different outfits and he even gave me advice on what looks good, and what I should try on at any given time (shoes, shirts, pants, jewelry, etc). He also carried a booth around with him, which allowed me to change privately and I came way with photos with at least 5 different outfits. German was super artistic and spontaneous. We walked around and he jumped at situations where the photos would be authentic, artistic, and look great. Some of my best photos came from him stopping while we were walking and him being like "oh that looks nice, let's try that". After the photo shoot was done, I was just expecting to get a list of photos and that be the end of it. Nope. He sends me a link to a super custom and artistic photo gallery where he goes through the pictures and chooses all the great pictures out of the many you'll take on your photo shoot. You get a pin code, you can favorite pictures, there's a slideshow feature, it's super nice. For me he then told me to pick my top favorite pictures and he gave them some nice natural edits for free which made them look even better than I thought they could get. I was pretty annoying though the process, asking a lot of questions and such. He was super helpful and amenable throughout the entire process. He spent way more time with me than he originally scheduled. He didn't rush. He talked to me during parts of the shoot where I stiffened up, to get me to talk and loosen up, which happened to be some of the better photos. He showed me pictures of other people prior to the shoot to get a sense for what I wanted. Honestly if I'm still around NYC this time next year, I would ONLY take photos with German if I'm being perfectly honest. On one hand I want to give him a good review because I think people who do great work should get more business, but on the other hand I sort of want to make sure he doesn't get too popular else he might be too busy to book some more sessions with me next year. Before I can take it back: excellent job German, and thank you kindly for going above and beyond, and to everyone else... if you're that type of person I am, where you research through multiple people to find the right one, if you're looking for dating photos / professional photos and want someone to ensure you get the best possible results, I definitely recommend German.
