    Schaumburg On Stage

    Schaumburg On Stage

I went to watch Les Miserables by Schaumburg On Stage as I'd recently missed the national tour in…read moredowntown Chicago. Realizing that Drury Lane and Paramount had done their version a few years back and Marriott Theatre had done it a bit before that, I wanted to watch a live version in case I can't make the next big stop in Milwaukee. I watch quite a bit of theatre, both professional and amateur. Not sure why, but until this show -- I wasn't aware of Schaumburg on Stage which has been around since 2016. To my surprise, the quality of the production was similar in quality to other highly acclaimed groups like the District 214 all-district group (which recently did The Wedding Singer). Here were my thoughts on various aspects of the show: Staging: It really surprised me how many sets were used in the show and how they were fully functional. They were designed and painted well and items were hardly reused. They also did a very good job of quickly changing sets to make sure the showtime was kept to a reasonable length. Vocals: Two things I like about this. One is how they kept the complex harmonies -- which worked great in group songs. The overall balance lacked baritone and bass voices, but that's expected with younger actors. I also liked how they did not shy away from the challenge of the very high notes for male or female leads. They could have easily changed the key, but it's great to see them embrace the challenge. Orchestra: A bit smaller, not sure if it's due to space limitations or that's the way the school version is written. A bit more reliant on piano and common woodwind/string instruments than the full version. I did like how they played at a level not to overpower the vocals. Lighting and fog: I liked all the varieties of lights used. Not just in general stage lighting from the top, but also from lights on the side and spotlights. There were quite a bit of variations on lighting, which helped to tell the story. I did not like the excessive use of stage fog though, which tended to linger for more than a single scene. Overall, a great group to watch a show from. It's much better than the typical amateur group and prices are very reasonable. It's also great how they incorporate actors and actresses from all different ages and help them to build interest in theatre. Based on the quality of this performance, I can't wait to watch another show when they get a new digital microphone system.

Here are the things I've witnessed/experienced during my time at Alphas yard training…read more You will always be sharing a truck with 1-2 other students unless you buy a private lesson A lot of the instructors are nice and friendly until you start messing up and then they become very frustrated and aggressive which is literally the opposite attitude you're supposed to have as a teacher. Myself and another student witnessed a instructor berate a student to the verge of tears despite the fact she said this was the first time she's ever driven a manual vehicle An Instructor just repeated the last note on my progress log and claimed I drove that day even though I didn't despite the 5 hours I was there for. Instructors would only take me out driving for 30 minutes even though I'd been there for 8 hours! Instructors not showing up so the owner had to take me on the road and was extremely rude when I made mistakes despite telling him beforehand it was my second time driving and didn't feel comfortable on the main roads with traffic yet. He also physically slapped my hand away from the shift stick, not for any Emergency reason but because I tried to downshift from 6th to 5th gear before I turned back into the schools truck yard. ALL the Instructors LIE TO YOU about the number of pull ups you get on the skills test (On the parking portion of the test you have 3 "pull ups" to straighten out the vehicle to fit within the parking space) you get 2 free pull ups but if you use 3 you lose a point [one point out of 12]). Leading me to fail one of my skills tests by ending it early and out of bounds because I thought I used all 2 of my chances to fix my mistake. Their training yard had so many old parking lines that aren't painted over so you can't even tell which are the old ones and which are the new ones They won't let me use their trucks to test anymore even though I still have 2 attempts left with the DMV on the driving portion of the test. So I now have to outsource to a third party and rent their trucks. Oh and BTW if you fail 3 times on a test portion and need to wait 30 days to test again (per DMV regulations) the school is done letting you test with their trucks. Do yourself a favor and apply for a WIOA grant. They give it to almost everyone who applies and you'll be able to take the course for free at any other reputable school. Something I wish I would have done but unfortunately was ineligible for due to a DUI I got 4 years ago. Good luck. Also: The classroom portion of the school was absolutely ridiculous and unfair. I won't get into it that much because they changed it to online classes after I passed it but I'm telling you it was really bad.

It was a great and easy experience they push you hard to learn and get ready for the testread more

When I was considering this university, people I highly respected (but never attended their program) believed this is a great university. Their ads speak well of them. I had various former students, who graduated in the 1980s & 1990s who told me they could not get employment after graduating in their field of study and had to change careers / get additional training elsewhere. I learned these issues after graduation. The education in engineering is WORTHLESS because they are not ABET accredited school. In other words, employers ONLY HIRE ABET ACCREDITED GRADUATES. The problem was employment after graduation & student loan policies. I finished a Bachelor's Degree in engineering, BS Computer Engineering Technology in 2014. ADTalem Global Education, dba DeVry University, utilizes The Higher Learning Commission.org to procure student loans. DeVry would max out the student's credit for student loans. The tuition cost is based on their ability to get funding. In the first 2 years as a student, I was a cash paying student. I applied for student loans then dropped out. Unknown to me, they were able to get student loans. Instead of returning the unused funds, they increased my tuition / education costs for previous classes that were paid in full. Accounting education fraud. Their billing is so confusing because they are committing fraud. They sell fake health insurance policies. BEWARE

I do not know why there are so many who've had bad experiences, I can only speak to my own. Yes, ONCE I did wait on hold for a long time, but mostly I was on hold for only a few minutes. The nursing classes are offered by Chamberlain, the non-nursing classes are offered by DeVry. In both cases, the content was appropriate and challenging, yet not hard to manage. I originally graduated with an ADN 27 years ago from a state university. There was no problem getting my transcripts. I received numerous phone calls from advisors and was offered guidance for my path to the BSN. I have, and will continue to recommend the RN-BSN program to others. I am not saying that those who've written poor reviews are being dishonest, however, I believe that their's was the exception, not the standard. I am saddened that their FNP program is not accepted by NYS, or I'd be taking that as well.

From the start, financial aid information has been unclear and inconsistent. Aid amounts change, balances fluctuate, and explanations are often vague or delayed. Students are left to constantly follow up just to understand what they owe and why. Communication between financial aid, billing, and advising feels disconnected, and it is incredibly difficult to get a straight answer. What is most troubling is that students are allowed to remain enrolled while financial aid issues are unresolved, only to later be hit with unexpected balances, holds, or threats of course disruption. This creates pressure and fear around continuing your education and feels like a tactic that places the financial burden entirely on the student. Instead of proactive guidance, the process feels reactive and transactional. Policies are quoted without being clearly explained, and support often feels scripted rather than student-centered. For a school that markets itself as supportive and accessible, the reality is that students must constantly advocate for themselves just to avoid financial fallout. I strongly advise prospective students to: Get everything in writing Track their account weekly Question every balance change Be prepared for financial aid issues to impact enrollment Chamberlain may work academically for some, but based on my experience, the financial aid system creates unnecessary stress and financial risk. I would not recommend this school to anyone who relies on financial aid without being fully prepared to fight for clarity and accountability.

I went in…read moreto check out the school a few weeks ago the two teachers I was referred to are no longer teaching there. I met who I am guessing is the manager his name was Adam or Alex? He tried to talk me into guitar with one of the other teachers but I was extremely surprised that the teachers are all kids. I was really excited that they opened up and are so close to my house however they want $300 a month to have a 22 year old teach your child. I also was not very excited by the fact that for $300 a month my children would not be learning any theory only music for the show that they would be putting on. When I asked if they could also throw theory and some structured learning in I was told if there is time after they work on the assigned songs that they would be allowed to do so. The man I was speaking with could sense my disdain and got very pushy and when he found out that my children have been in music lessons since they were 3 years old he became very adamant about me joining and talking about the show team and other performance programs my kids could be in, Normally I would be a proud mama bear to hear someone wanting my kids to be part of something so badly, but truthfully I do not want to pay for my children to be in a band I want to pay for my children to have lessons from an accomplished adult so they can learn to play better, not be put on a "show team" to play songs and never learn anything new. I felt as though I was at a used car lot the way the man was talking to me. I also just got a strange vibe off of him. He seemed burned out or like he may have been on something. Definitely not someone I would feel comfortable leaving my child with. I was super disappointed because I had heard such wonderful things about the vocal instructor and the guitar instructor, I was upset to find out that they had left the school, especially when they did not have sufficient teachers to fill their spots. All they could offer as replacement was early 20 somethings to replace them. Basically I got a very bad vibe off of the place. When I visited the only people who were there were the burnt out manager, the guitar teacher who is in his early 20's and the vocal instructor (who I had already been told was not sufficient and that you don't want her, you want to make sure you get the vocal keys teacher).. So all in all I would say skip school of rock glen ellyn and go to school of rock naperville. Thats what I ended up doing. The teachers there are of adult age and have resumes as opposed to the glen ellyn school where the teacher are in college and just working a job. If you go to their website do not be fooled in the staff section the guitar teacher who I was going there to try and sign up with is still on there as the music director which I feel is sneaky and misleading, he is not there anymore they just keep him on there to make them look like they have someone on staff that can actually teach music.

All the kids learn at an incredible rate with weekly one on one's as well as weekly 3 hour rehearsal with his group. I feel it would have taken years at a lower cost lesson only program for him to get to the level he's at in 5 months. In addition all of the staff and other kids are awesome. School of Rock will quickly become a second family for anyone who attends.
