I love this hidden little gem nestled right off Fauntleroy Way not far up the street from the ferry terminal. My toddler loves the boardwalk portions and the bridges that cross over the creeks. I love that you can barely hear the traffic and city noises (even less so now with reduced activity due to COVID-19). Especially in the rain. Birds chirping. Leaves rustling. Rain drops if it's raining. It's so peaceful and zen. There are tons of salmon berry bushes in the spring. Another thing I love is it's easily missed so I rarely see another person here, unlike the much busier Lincoln Park down the road. The paths are well laid out, although there are some mini trails that lead to dead ends other people have made. It can get a little muddy in parts if the weather has been wet, but not slippery. Just don't wear your nice shoes. If you stand around too long there are mosquitoes. So if you're not chasing a toddler and there to meditate or meander, bug spray. Sometimes there is trash on the path which makes me sad some people don't care to carry their waste to the provided trash can at the entrance. read more

Nice wooded park for walking with plenty of street parking. Not too crowded when we went on a weekday afternoon. Would visit again.

I've been exploring a lot of different parks in the area recently, and was fairly happy I decided to check this one out :) To be honest, it was difficult to find at first because it's in this semi-residential area, and the entrance is next to a bunch of buildings, so it doesn't seem like a park at first. Just keep an eye out for the park sign and realize that you'll probably have to park somewhere along the street. Once you kind of pass the first few trees, you'll realize the park is a lot bigger than you'd expect. You basically walk in to see you've entered a mini forest, but the paths are generally clearly laid out. I had a lot of fun just walking along the main path with my dog. We then circled back and explored every other branch of the trail, and there's some decent mileage for people to check out. I was pleasantly surprised by how well you can suddenly feel like your walking in the deep woods rather than by some neighborhood. Some of the trails climb steeper, but none of it is dangerous or difficult, and even my tiny dog could handle everything perfectly fine. If you're someone looking for more privacy during your walks, this is your place!!! I think I only saw 2 other people during my 2.5 hours there. read more

Fauntleroy Park is a well maintained 32.9 acre patch of wilderness near the Fauntleroy ferry terminal. I can't believe I've lived so close to such a gem of a little park for this long without knowing it. Plenty of trees, trails, elevation changes, and a couple of stream crossings make for a convenient escape right in your backyard. If your backyard is in West Seattle, anyway. You won't feel entirely isolated, because if you look around you can usually see a house overlooking some portion of the park, but just ignore it and you'll feel better. Watch those wooden boardwalks and bridges, though, if it's been wet: some slippery muck develops on them, but this adds to the sporting nature of the park and makes you feel rugged, like an outdoor survivalist. I'm sure that my dog has been dying for me to find this place for longer than she can remember. She's nodding contentedly as I type this. read more

Gem in the city! When you're inside the park for a hike it's like you're cut out from the real life. The trail gets a bit confusing deeper inside, but that might be my poor sense of direction talking. It's a great place for a small easy and fast hike without tons of people and close to the town. The mini river is a must see! read more

Me and my little badge hound love this park!! It's like a little forest right in the middle of West Seattle. My badger hound aka. Oscar the Weiner dog would love to get off his leash and chase all the little critters!! I took my tween daughter who's response to everything is "it's OK" started off on the trail, none to impressed, by the time we finished, "it was Amazing" and she wanted to come back everyday to explore!! read more

Never knew the real name of this park is Fauntleroy Park; I knew it by its nickname Whisky Woods! Oh well, it is like being out in the wilderness but still in the city. Almost that is. I just hope the junkies don't start taking up residence and start shooting up and trashing it like they have done to many other parks in the city. read more

I'd like to share with you what this 33 acre patch of woods means to me. I grew up a block from the top edge of the park. By the way, forgive me, but I will refer to Fauntleroy Park as Whiskey Woods. It's what I know it as. Legend has it that around the turn of the century (1900-ish) a guy's horse named Whiskey died down there. Thus, Whiskey Woods. My first venture into these woods was 1966. Fauntleroy Elementary, 1st Grade, Mrs. Carlson. We took a "field trip" and walked across the church parking lot with our lunch pails, up the trail by the church, across the stream, then up that little switchback hill. Nowadays it's steps. Back then it was just planks with horizontal wood braces nailed in. Once you got to the top there was a small clearing. It was much more of a clearing in 1966. We all sat around, had our lunches, and probably heard a story or something. So my first venture into Whiskey Woods was in 1966. In that clearing (semi-clearing nowadays) you'll see a fallen tree, now it's just an old decaying log, sticking out and up to the east at about a 45 degree angle. That's the Nickel Log. Around when I was 10 years old that log was in the same position, but in much better shape, and someone hammered nickels into the base of it. Thus, the Nickel Log. I find it cool as it's still there today. So anyway, from where I lived I walked through the woods to school, and home, every day. I and a few of my friends grew up down there. Back in the late 60's and the 70's the park department had gotten ahold of it, but really hadn't done anything with it to show that they owned it. No entry barriers, signage, maintenance, it was just some neighborhood woods. Growing up down there we'd ride bikes (this was long before such a thing as BMX), made camps, slingshot wars, underground camps. Yes, underground. Then in later years, mid 70's and high school we did things down there like you did in high school in the mid 70's. (Party). Although I've been in Burien since 1990 I still have visited Whiskey Woods regularly. Weekly, or twice a month. This past week I've been on vacation and have been down there four times. Now, at 56, I huff and puff a bit coming back up, but I so cannot tell you how much these woods mean to me. I'm going to retire in 9 years, will likely move from the area, and will miss these woods most of all. The woods are different now than when I was a kid. There's rules....and that's fine. The joint efforts that have gone underway to preserve, clean up, and improve Whiskey Woods are to be commended. I applaud and shout, Bravo! Thank you. I just wanted to share some history and perspective from a kid who basically grew up in these woods. These woods... excuse me... this park... is in great shape. Thank you to all who have cared for it. Been on vacation and been there 4 times this week. It's a hiking park...from 1 to 2 miles, depending on how much adventure you want. read more

Solid park. Seems to me like it's Linkin Park's little sister. Fairly small park but plenty of trails to walk around with your dog. You may occasionally smell a marijuana odor due to the fact that it is Washington and it is legalized read more
