The Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena is on the campus of Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. The FAU…read moremascot is the owl so the arena is affectionally known as the burrow. The 2,900 seat arena opened in 1984 for division 1 women's basketball and in 1988 it started hosting men's basketball and volleyball games. In 2007 the arena received a 10 million dollar renovation which included a new roof, renovated locker rooms, upgraded exterior, renovated lobby, chair back seating, and a video scoreboard. In the summer of 2008 club suites were added. In November of 2022, Eleanor R. Baldwin made a $7.5 million donation to Florida Atlantic University Athletics. In honor of the gift, the FAU Arena became known as the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena. I came here for FAU Education Day. School groups were able to come and watch a women's basketball game between FAU and FIU. In between quarters there was Owlsley, the FAU mascot, dancers, cheerleaders, t-shirt giveaways, and a balancing act. The FAU Owls fought hard but were ultimately overcome by FIU by two points. This was a really fun event and the stadium was clean and comfortable. I would definitely come back for future games.

Rough. I have always…read morewanted to go to the Morikami Museum. Some friends invited us to finally go. It was the Oshogatsu Festival(New Years) there last weekend, so it was a chance to see the gardens and see the festival. The gardens were interesting, festival, not so much. We arrived in the morning. We parked in the grass with a series of people coordinating the cars where to park. The 3 people that sorta pointed us to where to park didn't feel professional or like they appreciated being there at all. When we crossed the road to get to the entrance from the parking lot it was a fiasco. It was badly coordinated with dozens of cars going by while the number of people waiting to cross piled up. Once inside there was more issues. The food booths had some basic food options, with massively long lines. As we had to get our food tickets at the front, I felt like I had to use them. I almost just gave up and gave the ticket away; better than 15 minute lines for an egg roll. I finally got some food and it was disappointing. I was even surprised at that point. When leaving we got in the cue of cars trying to leave. Our car didn't move for over 10 minutes. Again, I wasn't surprised that it was badly coordinated at that point. I will be back again soon to see the gardens and the theater and exhibits that were closed for the festival. I'm sure it will be a far better time.

The Cornelia Bailey Cultural Arts Center is located on the campus of South Florida PBS studios in…read moreBoynton Beach. It is supported by the Cornelia T. Bailey Foundation, established in 2007 with the mission of "advancing the arts, education, and innovative initiatives that enrich lives through nature and the sciences." Mrs. Bailey had a lifelong appreciation for classical music, literature, nature, and the arts. She earned a degree in art history from Wellesley College, becoming the third generation in her family to do so. In 1952, she married Glenn Bailey, a WWII Navy veteran. The couple enjoyed success in both business and marriage, and they supported many organizations and programs in Jupiter, Darien, and New York City. After her husband passed away, Cornelia, known as "Kelia" to friends and family, used the arts for healing and companionship. She believed that engaging young people was crucial to preserving the arts, so she supported many youth programs and organizations that brought art and artists into local public-school classrooms. Mrs. Cornelia T. Bailey passed away in July 2017, but she left behind a lasting legacy of making art more accessible to everyone in the community. The recently opened, state-of-the-art Cornelia Bailey Cultural Arts Center is an 8,000-square-foot facility. It is the first cultural arts center in Boynton Beach and was built at a cost of $10 million, with the mission of providing free access to educational and entertaining arts and cultural activities. Currently, it is hosting portions of the "Egyptian Pharaohs" experience across Florida's first immersive dome designed for 360-degree experiences. The cultural arts center also features the Taylor Performance Hall, a tribute to the shared love of music between the late Felicia Taylor and her mother, Mary Hilem Taylor, along with a learning lab, garden, and patio for outdoor entertainment. I recently visited the cultural arts center for "Egyptian Pharaohs," which I enjoyed very much. It is running concurrently with "Titanic: An Immersive Voyage" in another part of the South Florida PBS studios. Parking at the venue is convenient and free. I am looking forward to the upcoming "Colosseum: The Legendary Arena" and "Napoleon Experience: The Immersive Saga." Palm Beach County is fortunate to have this amazing cultural arts center thanks to the generosity of the Cornelia T. Bailey and her foundation.

So excited to finally get to see the holiday boat parade, in person this year. We got to a friends…read morehouse, on the intercostal, to watch the decorated boats pass by us. We saw about 35 decorated boats head south past us for 45 minutes. The Boynton Beach holiday boat parade is held annually on the second Friday in December from 630 until 830. The parade features festively decorated boats, this is the premier holiday attraction along the intercoastal. It's a partnership with the towns of Hypoluxo, Boynton Beach, Lantana and Delray Beavh. a combination of privately owned and commercial vessels are decked out with dazzling lights, holiday decor, costumed captains, and lots of music, they travel along the intercostal waterfront. There are lots of parks and restaurants along the route to watch the festivities. Many of the intercoastal bridges will remain upright when the boat parade passes through the area. At 6:30 the parade formed at the Ocean Ave., Bridge in Lantana near the old Keylime House. The boats passed by the Boynton Beach waterfront, Delray, and ended on Linton Boulevard. Prized were awarded for the most creative boats in three different size categories. Initially, Toys for tots were collected .

It's time to paint the town green for the 53rd annual St. Patrick's Day Parade and Festival. The…read moreparade take place at noon and runs west along Atlantic Avenue from the Intracoastal to NW 5th Ave. There are over 70 Parade entries including floats, schools, community groups, non profits, veterans, and first responders. After the parade, a festival is held in Old School Square from 2 to 7 PM featuring food, vendors, games, and musical performances. Thanks to Rachel M for alerting me about this fantastic event, I arrived early and was able to easily find parking along upper Atlantic Ave at the parade end. It seemed like the majority of people were crowded around Old School Square. There was an interactive parking map featured on the festival website for more place to park. About a half mile from the parade the streets were completely blocked off. An hour before the parade started I was able to watch the giant American flags raised using the ladders from fire trucks all along the parade route. I loved the patriotic vibe of the parade and it was really moving to see the parade pass under the billowing flags held high. I love how the parade started off with a tribute to Veterans with representatives from WWII on. Other parade highlights included bagpipe players, floats, bands, and classic vehicles. There were so many participants that the parade that it went on for close to two hours. Almost all of the parade watchers were in green and other St. Patrick's Day finery and the restaurants and businesses along Atlantic Ave were decked out too. This is an awesome dog and family friendly event that brings the community together to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

The Beatles on the Beach Festival is an annual celebration of the anniversary of The Beatles…read morearrival in America. This year it was the 62nd anniversary, featuring 2 nights of live concerts at Mizner Amphitheater. Aside from live performances they also have a wide variety of events like happy hours, art exhibits, meet and greets, lectures, etc. If you are a Beatles fan you will absolutely love the sheer amount of Beatles related things that are going on. I've been to three of these festivals and the big ticket is definitely the headlining live performances. In 2024 they had Cheap Trick which was huge. In 2025 they had Night Ranger, which was awesome as well. This year I feel like they really cut corners on the headliners. No major acts at all. Instead they had Tony Kishman, a Paul McCartney tribute act one night (he was also a headliner in 2025). And they also had Morgan Freeman's Symphonic Blues Experience, a "guided" blues journey, which was really lame. The last two years we got rock star energy, this year we got guided blues journey's and a rehashed tribute act. I was really bummed. Overall I do like the fact that the organizer puts this event together, it's definitely cool. But they really have to step up their game with regard to talent for 2027. I would love to see a band like Weezer, Sublime or Journey play. And I don't think it's out of the question considering the venue. Weezer just played in the Mizner Amphitheater last year.

Nothing says Christmas time in Florida like a holiday boat parade. While there are many…read moreintracoastal boat parades, this one is a little different because it takes place on a lake. Lake Osborne is a 378 acre lake that was once part of a series of freshwater lakes that were on the western slope of the coastal ridge in Palm Beach County. Urban development around the lake has greatly impacted the size of the lake and its water quality through the years. It serves as an important resource for Palm Beach County for storing stormwater and as a water supply reservoir. It is also used for recreation including boating and fishing. The Lake Osborne Holiday Boat Parade is an annual tradition created by Captain Scott, founder of the Osborne Yacht Club, This is the 11th year of the parade. It takes place from 7 to 8 PM. The parade starts at The Hive Tiki Bar and Restaurant in Lantana and travels the perimeter of Lake Osborne. It passes under the Lantana Road and 6th Ave bridges before turning around and coming back to The Hive for an afterparty and the Little Smiles Toy donation. Food vendors are along Lake Osborne Drive between Lantana and Lake Worth Roads and you can see the parade any point along Lake Osborne Drive, from Lantana Road to Lake Worth Road, and from John Prince Park. I watched the parade from the John Prince Campground where I caught the boats going out and coming back. It was not a large parade like the Seminole Winterfest Boat Parade in Ft. Lauderdale but it was cute and worth seeing. I didn't have to deal with crowds and the parade had fireworks and music. It is made up of small boats that travelled past me quickly. This was my first time attending this boat parade and it was a free and festive way to spend a holiday evening.
