Enjoying The ELIXIR of Life! AND Fate!
SITREP
Set amongst the picturesque rolling hills of Amador County ("Amador"), Fate Wines ("Fate") packs a taste-wallop with the varietals it proudly features here in Plymouth, CA.
THE SETUP
Along HWY 49, this winery stop features an impeccable setup of two long wine bars and an endless gift shop setup to make both the picnic-lovers and the wine-lovers in your group extremely happy.
Of course we were welcomed by Sir Thomas, the gallant Sommelier turned winemaker. He cheerfully introduced us to each of his bottled "Children", and like a proud father proceeded to tell us how each one of them excels!
THE WINES!
A bit eccentric? YES. Because I imagine for some connoisseurs Fate's stated descriptions would just drive them crazy!

There were TWO separate tastings, and the first featured most of the reds:

The second tasting at the other counter featured all of the whites. But between these, it didn't take me long at all to hone in on the vintages I knew I'd like and that indeed set my taste buds abliss! These included:
* The ELIXIR is ostensibly a dessert / late harvest wine, but features a wonderful blend of Brandy so that the flavor is not too sweet.
* The Urban Legend is this winery stop's version of Barbera, and it has a delightful light finish, that is not heavy, nor overladen with a bitter aftertaste like some Cabernet's on this trek.
* I DO have to give a shout out to the Grenache even though I didn't purchase it (THIS time) - but I plan to be back. Like the Barbera, Fate's Grenache is an even lighter red, with an even lighter finish.

* I did find Fate's FUSION to be a decent wine, but as a blend, the wine's primary wine - Cabernet Savignon - I'm not a fan of, and so the other two could not quite contrast against the heaviness - that I felt & tasted (my opinion only) - with that bitter aftertaste kick at the end. But that's why there's always OTHER wines. Ce la vie.

HAPPY WITH MY CHOICES!
Both these varietals I knew I would need to acquire for my trek back home!

In fact, I've already opened up the ELIXIR and had a delicious aperitif with it on Sunday evening, and last night actually sprinkled a shot's worth over a bowl of Vanilla Bean Ice Cream with Blueberries & Raspberries - absolutely DIVINE!
