Wild Turkeys in the Vineyard
Kristian D.

Bray Vineyards has been around for a long time and is a popular destination for many Amador visitors. The winery and tasting room are located at the southern end of Shenandoah Road just outside of Plymouth. You must navigate a paved single lane road to drive back to the facility. Watch out for wild turkeys! The winery is somewhat rustic with a lot of country accents. The front door is on the north side of the building facing the loading dock area next to the bathtub. The interior is similar to a nice barn with the only wild animals being the occasional bachelorette party. You get a standard tasting menu of their average to above average wines in the classic Amador style with purchase refund. The signs of the farmer popping a wheelie are indicative of the place. Bray serves approachable wine in a relaxed country setting with nice staff and a fun atmosphere.

Love this place! How can you not love a place that has Brayzin Hussy Red wine? Also, they have signs up of a tractor driver doing a wheelie with a bottle of wine in his hand...that is awesome! This was the last winery we hit on our adventure last weekend. I'm so glad we made the trip. The people working were really friendly and I enjoyed most of their wines. The Brayzin Hussy Red was actually very nice and I had to buy a bottle to give to my Mom who is a redhead...and a brayzin hussy! I also left with a bottle of their Tempranillo which is a very smooth Spanish wine. I can't wait to come back for another bottle of hussy wine but that one will be for this hussy only ;-)

Utilitarian building for storing and tasting wine. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/DbLP3Fszwrf7Ue8IWg7qCA?select=9q5kMqzuyMz-C-HR69AJ5g Robin Bray was the host in the tasting room. Delightful person. 2010 Brazen Hussy Red @ $15 is a good everyday red 2010 Barbera Rosato @ $18 is a good value for spaghetti wine 2008 Tres Vinas (GSM) @ $22 was not steller as I am used to Paso blends 2009 Primitivo and 2008 Tempranillo @ $22 were good deals 2008 Barbera Port @ $24 good enough to buy and we did. Had it not been that we had found tastier varietals at Driver and Cooper for about the same price, this would have been a place to stock up.

The "farm responsibly" sign all over the Bray property.

Is your soul trapped in the 60's or 70's? It feels good 'round here. The place is always jammin', pouring wine and having a great time. Along the winding road in you will notice a subtle change in the road side tractor signs from the regular yellow caution, to a tipping tractor with someone chugging wine.... The tone is set... The infamous "BrayZin Hussy Red" gives a little more insight to the jovial personality emanating throughout this winery. The Zins and other reds are very good. Fruit forward and peppery. Overall it's a jamboree for wine tasters... Who said Blondes have all the fun ;-)

September 25, 2027 - Plymouth, CA…read more I've been wanting to visit this winery for quite a while, especially after hearing they had pieces of the Berlin Wall. I pictured a few small chunks of concrete on display. Well...they don't just have pieces. They have several original sections of the Berlin Wall, beautifully displayed alongside their outdoor tasting area. I was immediately in awe. Standing there looking at the wall--and knowing what it represents--was unexpectedly emotional. I had just finished a novel about the Berlin Wall, so all that history was fresh in my mind. It made seeing these actual sections of the wall even more powerful. As we tasted the wines, I had a view of the West Berlin-facing side, complete with its colorful resistance graffiti. Walking around to the East-facing side was an entirely different experience. The stark, cold concrete has almost nothing on it except bullet ricochet marks. Seeing the two sides of the wall was incredibly moving. Okay...now for the wine! We did a tasting of six wines for $20 per person--one white and five reds--and honestly, every one was delicious. We liked them enough to buy two bottles to take home, which waived one of our tasting fees. John was our host, and he was gracious, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly. He shared information about the wines, the vineyard, and the history of the wall, which made the whole experience that much more interesting. So yes, definitely come for the Berlin Wall and stay for the wine. It's a unique combination of history, emotion, and really nice wine--and one I'm very glad we experienced.

Met the fabulous owners at a wine dinner at The Nashville Social Club in Carson in March…read more I was so impressed with them and the wines, I made a day trip over to taste and pick up some more. This is a lovely property in located on the Shenandoah School Road east of Plymouth, California. Owner/Winemaker Chaim Gur-Arieh started his career as a food technologist, creating some of my childhood favorites- Captain Crunch, Hidden Valley Dressing, and pudding cups. That has to explain why he creates some very delicious wines now. Elisheva, his wife and business partner hosts the tasting room, or should I say tasting garden. On gorgeous days enjoy the beautiful large patio and garden space she has created on the property. Complete with chandeliers. Be part of their mailing list and make reservations to attend one of her concerts in the garden during the summer. After checking in at the actual tasting room, I walked the path to the garden and could pick any seat. I was brought a nice charcuterie / cheese plate to enjoy with the wines and the sunny morning. The barbera and tawny port are two of my favorites. The sparkling rose was nice and light, perfect as we now enter 100 degree days for the summer. It's going to take several trips to discover all their wine. Chaim has even made wine that pairs with sushi. Wild. Don't be disappointed by showing up, they may be full. Make a reservation. They are a very popular and great vineyard.

Thanks to Tiffany K. for her review and have convinced me to try Di Arie Vineyard & Winery. I made…read morereservation in advance by email because no one answered the phone and no option to leave a message. When I got there, they didn't have my name for reservation. I had to show them the email confirmation. It was fine and we were still able to sit down right away. The inside wine tasting room is kind of small but the outdoor patio and area makes up for it. It is quite big and open. I think someone can host an outdoor concert or a wedding. We got to taste about five type of wines (Sauvignon Blanc and few blended red wine). They were all good. I particularly like the 2020 Interlude and purchased a bottle for my sister. We also got to sample from their gallery collection library club that's like 20+ years old ( I forgot the exact year) and that was special. They also have dumplings and spring rolls for purchase. I skip that because I wasn't sure if that would go with the wine. We bought some cheese with us and we had that with our wine. Of course, we asked for permission before bringing in our own cheese and crackers. The gentleman that served us was really nice and friendly. We didn't feel rushed and wine was poured at a good pace. I do want to mention that most winery at Amador will comp at least one tasting with purchase, but not at Di Arie. If you're not a member, be prepared to pay the full wine tasting fee per person.

An Exceptional Wine Experience from Start to Finish! What an…read moreincredible experience! This winery is a true gem, offering an outstanding selection of wines that make every tasting memorable. The Barbera was wonderfully expressive, the Primitivo was rich and full of character, and the Cabernet Franc was absolutely exceptional, showcasing the elegance and complexity that make these varietals so special. Each wine had its own personality, and tasting them made it clear how much passion and craftsmanship go into what this winery produces. But what truly elevated our visit from great to unforgettable was our server, Jenn! She was absolutely fantastic--knowledgeable, personable, attentive, and genuinely passionate about making sure we had an amazing experience. Her ability to share the character of each wine while making us feel welcomed and comfortable made the entire tasting that much more enjoyable. Jenn has that rare gift of turning a simple wine tasting into a memorable experience. It's one thing to serve exceptional wine, but it's another to pair it with exceptional hospitality. This winery delivers both in spades. If you're a wine enthusiast, especially if you appreciate Barbera, Primitivo, and Cabernet Franc, this is a must-visit destination. And if you're fortunate enough to have Jenn as your server, you're in for something truly special! Five stars for the wine, five stars for the atmosphere, and ten stars for Jenn! Apparently, this is the related winery to Villa Toscano located nearby, which we had previously visited. Once again, I found myself a fan of this place also! It too, is surrounded by eye pleasing countryside views, with lovely ponds, fountains, flowers and comfortable seating areas along the outdoor patios. The entrance opens into a large room where the tasting counter is at the far end. But before getting there, you are tempted on the way over to browse the retail area which features home decor, artwork, designer accessories, and clever wine connoisseur gifts. The walls are decorated with assorted flags and a family style crest over the focal point of the wine tasting bar. The wines offered on the wine tasting list were similar to what we had tried before at Villa Toscano. But we ordered another $5.00 flight that included our favorites along with a few we hadn't tried yet. We enjoyed the flavor variations, but had a hard time deciding on what to purchase, so we went outside for a while to take in the scenery and discuss which ones we liked the best. Bella Piazza also offers a wine club membership that includes discounts on wine, other products and a free lunch buffet every weekend. This is another nice little winery to spend time with family and friends!
