I had some concrete that had become cracked and tilted by tree roots. Tony gave a good price and was able to start the job quickly. The end result is very nice. He and his guys did a great job. My reason for not giving 5 stars is that there were a couple of issues that left me wondering what might have happened if things had gone a bit differently.
First, the concrete is in several sections, each section surrounded by red brick. When the forms for pouring the new concrete were set up, one of the new sections had a very steep slope. I know concrete should have some slope for drainage, but this was way too much. It was tilted more than the concrete it replaced. I pointed it out, Tony had the form adjusted and it looks fine. So no big deal - except it would have been a huge deal if I hadn't pointed out the problem. And I'm surprised that he either didn't see it or didn't think it was a problem.
Second, the original concrete has a "salt finish" with random-sized pits from rock-salt being pressed into the wet concrete. Not all the original concrete was being replaced, so we discussed matching the original finish. On the day concrete was poured, I had an appointment and got back to see the first replacement section covered in a fine-grained salt that could never produce the same finish as the original concrete. Tony knew there was a problem - he pointed it out before I had the chance to. When I said that it needed to be fixed, he left, came back with rock-salt, and the new concrete finish matches the original almost perfectly. So again, it worked out fine, but what would have happened if I hadn't gotten home when I did?
To his credit, when the crew was cleaning up the day after the work was completed, I noticed and pointed out a couple of bricks that were out of alignment. Tony said he's have it fixed, but due to rainy weather, couldn't do it right away. After the weather cleared, I called, and Tony sent out one of his guys to fix that problem the same day. Yay!
So... Tony and crew did a very nice job at a good price. I'm a happy customer and will recommend F.A.T. Construction. Just be sure to monitor things as the job proceeds. read more
