One of the oldest comic specialty shops in the country (circa 1976). Great subscription service and special orders are not a problem

Great little comic shop. A decent selection and a very friendly owner. There are cats roaming around and they are so cute.

It's not…read moreparticularly welcoming, selection is scattershot and for the most part there's no benefit, price-wise, to buying here as opposed to anywhere else. Casual fans looking to grab an issue of a popular title will be satisfied, but those looking to get caught up by buying more than one will likely find themselves out of luck and if you want a graphic novel, you'd better hope you ordered it ahead. the browsing selection here leaves a lot to be desired. The proprietor is friendly, helpful and willing to go the extra mile to help his subscribers. But the store is small and it's not uncommon for him to simply not have ordered smaller titles unless a copy is requested by one of his regulars. The bottom line? This is a good place to be a regular, but not such a good place to be a casual reader/customer. Edit: A while back, I stopped shopping here because the owner and I disagreed on a political point on Facebook and he quickly became angry -- and then violent, making threats against my person. I didn't update my Yelp review because, frankly, it seemed like a one-off thing that only affected me personally. Yesterday, it became apparent that this is a common course of behavior for him, and it seems the store is neither a friendly nor particularly safe place to be.

When I got there I was instantly greeted by a man who I'll assume was the owner. He was incredibly nice and very helpful. He asked me if I was looking for anything specific or just browsing. I appreciate that he knows he has the kind of shop where people may just come in out of curiosity. Since I was looking for some specific cards I asked for his help. He pointed me to the appropriate boxes and told me to take all the time I needed (at the conveniently provided table and chairs). He also thoroughly explained the way they price their cards and while I don't intend to need to by cards very often I appreciated that he took the time to let me know. I can't really speak to the quality of the merchandise itself in the shop. There were boxes and boxes of cards that were all in sleeves, well organized, and clearly labelled. They have an assortment of non-card memorabilia as well like pennants and mini helmets. In the end I found the two cards I needed and was very happy. I only paid one dollar (book value of $1 each) and was very satisfied. While I was in there I got some more ideas of other people who might appreciate a card of a favorite player so I may head back to a sports card store someday. If that day happens while I'm in Binghamton, then Lj's will certainly be where I go.

My husband and I went to LJ's sports cards this afternoon to buy card storage supplies to start up his e-bay business. When we walked in the owner and two other customers were sitting in the back chatting, which is fine, but no acknowledgement from the owner. My husband and I grabbed our supplies and sat at the counter for a solid 5 minutes, while the owner walked by us, fully seeing the merchandise we were going purchase and continued to talk to his friends about how he wanted to financially "screw" (his words) with his ex wife. Well apparently he is doing that to himself because we left the store without a purchase. Too bad considering we would have been long time customers, instead we went to Centerfield Comics and Books in Endicott. The owner was friendly and helpful and even gave us a discount on our supplies. There are many other card shops in this town, don't waste your time with this one!

My wife and I were checking out the Ithaca Commons and leisurely walked into this comic shop. As soon as we walked in, the owner asked if we needed help. I said I was just browsing. He then asked if I collected comics. I said I used to up until 2005 but then sorta lost interest due to the over-saturation of the semi-annual crossover events, but I still have a rough knowledge of the happenings in the current Marvel Universe. The guy then started getting really pushy by suggesting that I get back into comic collecting by picking up a trade paperback. I felt pretty uncomfortable so I just kept browsing around the store. My wife tried making small talks asking if he had any nearby restaurant suggestions. He gave an awkward answer (I'm paraphrasing here), "not really, food is food." And then resumed pestering me to buy a book. If I haven't bought a comic in the last 20 years, what makes him think that I was gonna start in his shop during a trip 3000 miles away from home? I was getting really uncomfortable at this point with the awkward silence so I picked up an issue that I had mild interest in. I imagine if we walked out empty handed he would have scolded us like he did to many other people here. 2 stars instead of 1 because he wasn't awfully rude I guess. ‍
