I was looking for local ice cream options outside the usual spots and found Fat Boys Creamery on Google.
Pulling up, it was hard to tell if they were open because the parking lot was empty and the creamery side of the building was under construction, though the "Open" sign was lit. I used the main entrance, though it's worth noting the wheelchair ramp currently only leads to the creamery side rather than the main entry.
The interior ordering area is compact, featuring digital TV screens displaying menus for burgers, hot dogs, wraps, and ice cream. While everything looked clean--floors, walls, and ceiling tiles--there was a noticeable mildew odor upon entering, likely related to the ongoing renovations.
I was greeted by the employee working the counter, who recommended the Philly Cheesesteak. I ordered that along with fries and a scoop of Superman ice cream. The kitchen area is hidden, but the food came out fairly quickly--ice cream first, followed by the hot food about 10 minutes later. The total came to around $20, which feels a bit steep, though fairly standard for current prices.
The food itself was surprisingly good. The Philly Cheesesteak had toasted bread, gooey cheese, and freshly cut peppers and onions. Paired with the crinkle-cut fries, it ended up being a very filling meal.
Overall, it was a solid experience despite the construction and initial impression. They also have outdoor picnic tables available if you prefer to eat outside. read more
