We had originally wanted to try out Low n Slow but found that they were closed and car was conveniently parked infront of Carmines &Co. They were still quite busy at 3pm on Sunday which we took as a good sign. The sign was indeed good. We chose to sit in the back room or "beer garden", where smooth music played, the fired warmed our bones and wet bottoms and we sat in the naturally lit room away from the din of the main dining space. We ordered the antipasto of Pork & Fennel Sausage served with green olives and dressed rocket. The sausage was slightly spicy and the taste of fennel was good. We each had a main; Spaghetti Del Mare, Mushroom Risotto, Rigatoni Raghu. All slightly under seasoned but the addition of salt and the house chilli oil let the dishes "sing". Service was fantastic too. And the dessert. Really really good. No fault except that you shouldn't share them, be greedy and have it all for yourself.

They have an online booking system or you can simply call. My sister and I shared seafood pasta, stuffed crab meat, tiramisu and alforgato. Everything was very good! The pasta could have been a little more al dente in my opinion but it was not overcooked. I highly recommend their Tiramisu....very authentic, not too sweet but rich in coffee and rum. I loved their chili paste that they served with the table bread and asked our waiter if I can purchase it. Turns out they have a factory a couple miles away from the restaurant. I am sure going to check it out!

It's more than just your average bolognaise, in my opinion anyway. I've heard some not-so-flash reviews about it too, but let's stay positive here. This is basically Italian fine dining. People actually dress up to come here. I was not warned about this, and showed up in jeans and a top. I mean, I'm not a sloppy dresser, but compared to what other customers in the restaurant were wearing I felt a bit out of place. I had the spaghetti marinara, and it was delicious! I like spicy food, and this dish had a surprising hint of spice. It wasn't hot; it was just more flavoursome than marinaras I've had before. The ingredients were fresh, tasty, well cooked and well presented. The waiter who served us was friendly and helpful. However, we waited quite a bit for our food, and seeing as we came early and it wasn't that busy I'm not too sure why. It was worth the wait though; all was forgiven when I tasted that marinara. Located next to the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on Port Rd, this place is highly recommended.

Lovely intimate little place with open frontage and sea breeze, pretty bar and even prettier staff. The food was the best I've had in ages, and really good value. For $20 we got a marinara piled with fresh seafood, and my stuffed eggplant was delicious but so filling I did that 'so sorry I can't finish it really was delicious' apologising thing small serve eaters like myself have to do. It's a curse, it really is. The owner was lovely and attentive, checking in with all of his patrons regularly to make sure we were having a nice time. And we were! They had a great wine list and for a boozer like myself, this is paramount. There was a weird white sheet covering one wall and my mind was racing with possibilities of what it could be hiding: turns out they're renovating and extending the dining room. More Cucina Nuova I say! Piu Piu!

So after gazing out over the sea and then dancing at a wine bar in the afternoon with friends I decided to grab a dinner from Cucina Nuova before heading home. It's not on the waterfront, rather on Henley Beach Road but a quick and easy walk. Like many Italian style restaurant/cafes in Adelaide the menu is familiar sounding. Cucina Nuovo has familiar dishes, reasonable prices, and lovely staff. The food is nothing revolutionary but it's yummy and service is lovely. My waitress was a real gem. The only real bone I have to pick (the lack of originality is only a minor point) is that one of the menu items was listed as gluten free, as a coeliac I ordered the meal but asked my lovely hostess to specify to the chef that I really needed everything to be GF. I was then told that one of the sides which comes on the plate with this main (the pollo royale) actually contained wheat. It was an easy enough swap to rice and I was so glad they picked up on it but I don't ever recommend that an institution advertises a GF meal that actually isn't gluten-free. It's a warning to always double check for the consumer as well. After that issue the meal was prepared and I haven't been sick at all so they were very careful. The chicken was tasty and free-range but I would loved a teensy-little bit more moisture, the sauce was very nice (cream-based), the side salad fresh. I seasoned my meal with chilli oil which was lovely and it was nice to be able to add my own, personal level of heat to the dish. I can imagine coming to the beach with a bunch of friends, throwing on a cute summer dress after swimming, and settling down to some (gluten free!) pizzas and white wine.

It was early on a weeknight so we got a table but even for a weeknight the place soon filled up. Apparently theres4a bar upstairs where you can have some drinks and wait for a table. I wish we could try more but two girls can only eat so much and we love pasta so we ordered the Cannelloni Verdi and Mezze Maniche with prawns, zucchini, cherry tomatoes and creamy sauce. The cannelloni was super delicious, very tasty creamy filling that just melts away. For a "small" serve it was pretty big with 2 cannellonis. The prawn pasta was also fantastic with abundant fresh prawns and excellent flavour. The pasta? Perfectly al dente. If all the dishes are like these two I can see all the fuss about this place. The only thing that puts me off is the no booking policy, that's probably one of the reasons why I haven't been yet.....in case I couldn't get a table. Anyway, can't wait to come back and try other things.

Of course I had to give it a try! I chose to celebrate my birthday here with a couple of close friends. It is very 2013 local business - no website (only a Facebook page), no phone number, no bookings and no credit cards. I inquired via Facebook about bookings and they got back to me quickly with a friendly note saying they don't take bookings but there shouldn't be any problem with the time proposed and number of people. We got there a bit early just in case and the rush hit shortly after that. Nevertheless, there was no problem with the table, not even when friends arrived bearing large gifts. The place provides a light and open and friendly setting. Coffees were very good. The guys who ran it made a great effort with service and were very generous when one breakfast came a bit later than the others by bring us one of their homemade delicious doughnuts on the house. The breakfasts were also very good. The friend who always orders French toast tried, you guessed it, the french toast. This variety was served with poached pears and persimmons and generously covered with home made lemon curd. The lemon curd was excellent! I had the poached egg in tomato on toast with minestra (this version being a mix of sauteed greens with cannellini beans. Very yummy and generous sized serve. The other two guests both had the poached eggs on toast with peperonata and pancetta. The peperonata was extremely tasty. And I couldn't go past the salted caramel brownie to take home for later. This is a business that is new and local. It has a bit of growing to do, but a lot of potential. The front of house guy is great but seems a bit stressed. The food is great. They aim to be environmentally friendly with the locally grown produce and cloth hand towels in the loos (I nice touch). See the Facebook page for photos of the daily breakfast and lunch menus.
