It's not just a few balloons twisted and tied together to adorn a doorframe, no, these are carefully designed, well-executed exhibits that leave you wondering how it all comes together. My first experience with Up, Up, & Away was a balloon display - during COVID, mind you - for our youngest daughter at her 9th birthday. The colors were phenomenal and she simply LOVED unicorns back then. The display was sensational and held up very well in October weather, making for a golden memory for our family. But over the years, I have followed some of their artistic displays through social media and word-of-mouth, since my wife is friends with the owner, Johnna (and I'm not a paid spokesman). Whether it is celebrating milestones, sportsball, civic events, or just media happenings, Up, Up, & Away delivers extraordinary work. You have probably even seen some of their work in the KC area and just not known to whom to give the credit. The point is, you can plan your own displays or you can hand over design to the creative geniuses who deliver again and again. Are they cheap? Heck no! But the value is unmatchable and the the color palette never seems to find a boundary, and the balloons are durable for many purposes. You just can't miss with these top-notch artists. Some are new, some are used. Place is packed with records from one end to the other and you have to navigate in/around the people there which is how it was done in the old days. I remember finding 'The Information Society' in downtown Lawrence as a teen, was funny to me in that I was picking up They Might Be Giants first release, and the Big Science release from Laurie Anderson. Things I did in the late 1980s once before. I hate feeling like some old person saying 'back in my day' but there is a sense of contentment to flip through a huge selection of sounds, seeing things and deciding if based just on the cover if it's worth spending your hard earned money on. Something playing over head selected by someone who works there, finding something new, it was a shared experience that I think we miss now with everything algorithmic and solo. The only downside being that it's hard to balance a solid selection in a physical location, I'm sure compared to 'online' but there's nothing quite like flipping through records and finding something you were looking for. Solid pricing for a retail location in downtown, you're not going to buy 11 records for a penny like Columbia house but you won't be disappointed with the selection and the hunt.

We're clearly frustrated, and maybe this isn't the way it is with every class, but if you are going to have a summer camp, you need to have teachers that are trained to deal with behaviors of 4-year-olds and keep a close line of communication with the parents. There was no itinerary, no pictures of the camp, no way to engage with my child when they came home on what they learned. To top it off, the camp director was rude to my wife when explaining things. Extremely disappointed in the experience and if you have other options I would stay away.

Another thing that needs to be said is that Mike is just an all-around great guy. You can tell as soon as you meet him that he is kind, genuine, and knowledgeable of his craft. He is an expert at what he does but he also goes the extra mile by getting you whatever you need on your big day. During my first inquiry phone call I spoke to a knowledgeable local representative who made product recommendation's, addressed all of my questions and followed up with an estimate of my rental. Once the booking was confirmed I received correspondence confirming the date and time. The day of the event the 56 foot obstacle course was set up at the arrival time and they arrived at the scheduled pick up time. The team handled the entire set up and take down activities.
