WOW! HUGE, FRESH SANDWICHES AT A GREAT PRICE!…read more We stopped by this Byrne Dairy after a concert at St. Joseph's Lakeview Amphitheater (Counting Crows!). This Byrne Dairy is just down the hill from the concert venue at a fairgrounds entrance. It was busy with the post-concert crowd, and short-staffed, but nonetheless the late-night workers kept the line moving well. We don't have Byrne Dairy at home, and stopped in with getting some grab-and-go gas station typical eats in mind. But we were pleasantly surprised to see deli ordering options. We ordered a couple of large sandwiches. They ended up not being large sandwiches--but rather HUGE SANDWICHES! The large is essentially two standard size sandwiches PACKED with tons of fresh fillings! And they were not only abundant in size, but also abundantly fresh and delicious! My husband had a roast beef and pastrami sandwich. The meat was sliced thin and PILED HIGH! I had egg salad, which was also generously scooped. Our sandwich artist was FANTASTIC--she took the time to construct the sandwich with our custom topping picks in an entirely purposeful way that helped keep the behemoth-bulk of this mega-meal intact. We brought our sandwiches back to our room, and were thoroughly STUFFED! I could only finish half, saved the other half for breakfast. My husband wolfed his whole monster, exclaiming it was one of the best sandwiches he's ever had. Sometimes the great sandwiches of our lives come from unexpected places--like this Byrne Dairy! If you have a hankering for a superb sandwich at a STELLAR DEAL (just $9.49 per MASSIVE large sandwich!), look no further! :-O :-D

Fine, shit happens. then my daughter gets it, says she's there for two pepperoni pizzas and they give her two chicken wing pizzas . I drive all the way home and immediately call. I call and the lady answers the phone, is immediately rude and proceeds to tell me I ordered two chicken wing pizzas. I must have misspoke . I say no, I order the same exact thing every time, that it's much more probable she misheard then that I misspoke and magically came out with a random different kind of pizza . I can't even eat chicken wing . She proceeds to double down and tell me I definitely said chicken wing. I tell her we even asked for two pepperoni when we picked it up. I even say, I will keep one cause the kids are so hungry and I'd like to come return one for a pepperoni and then she proceeds to talk over me, insist I am wrong and say she'll have to call the manager . Not I'm sorry for the mixup, not we are happy to make it right , not sorry you waited longer , said and now have to wait again and come all the way back. So freaking rude . I have spent a ridiculous amount of money there over the years and will drive out of my way next time to avoid them. So rude. Sorry, horrrible customer service pisses me off. I am the nicest most agreeable person so it takes real rudeness and incompetence to piss me off

Though it's only about a 20 minute drive from civilization, when you're in a pinch and need one item quick, a 20 minute drive is forever. That's where D&R comes in. On the corner of Amber Rd and Otisco Valley Rd is D&R Convenience, a little unassuming building right across from Otisco Lake. But D&R is more than your normal convenience store. They have close to EVERYTHING you need in a pinch, and a couple other items you may not expect. The store is basically divided up into three sections. The right hand portion is your normal convenience/quick grocery store portion. Soda, beer, canned goods, candy, bread, milk, some frozen items, etc. The middle section is 90% hardware/tools, and 10% toys with a small assortment of kids toys. The hardware section has come in handy...nuts, bolts, duct tape, piping, hand tools, etc....a lot more than you'd expect. Definitely useful if you're trying to fix something and don't have the right tool, and don't wanna drive into the city to buy one. It's not Home Depot or anything, but there's a pretty wide selection of home improvement stuff if you need it quickly. The third section on the left is their deli. They have a wide assortment of different subs and sandwiches, burgers, appetizers, and even pizza and wings. My wife and I order from here regularly. Most of their stuff is pretty good, especially for a convenience store. They have some great loaded fries, huge portion too. Their subs can be really good. Haven't tried their pizza and wings yet. They also do ice cream in the warmer months. But they have a random assortment of other things too. DVDs, fish bait, lottery tickets, and they have a couple gas pumps as well. Everything besides their deli is a couple cents/dollars more expensive than your city stores, but nothing crazy, and worth it if you need something quick. You'd spend the extra cents/dollars in gas driving anywhere else anyway. Their employees are always very nice and helpful. There's a $5 minimum for any credit/debit card transactions. You need some canned tomatoes? They have it. A wrench? D&Rs got you. A sandwich? Oh yeah, you can get that too.

They also have breakfast sandwiches and plenty of coffee and in fact I think if you have one of their mugs you can get a free cup of coffee from time to time. Off the record I've actually gotten a free cup a few times myself just because I think at 3:00 in the morning if that's all I'm getting the person probably feel sorry for me because I'm out of 3:00 in the morning and I need coffee so they say just go ahead and take it The store itself is pretty clean especially in comparison to other convenience stores I've been in. And of course the one thing that if they're not noted for should be, is their milk. The white milk is good but the chocolate milk is oh my gosh incredible. I actually live about an hour down the road from this location and there have been times that on my way home from the Syracuse area I will stop at Byrne dairy to grab a half gallon of chocolate milk even though I can buy chocolate milk in any other store closer to me. It just tastes better.

My notes: Cheap gas as always, shiny and new, ice cream One of the things I love about this local chain Byrne Dairy Store is that they have really excellent ice cream. They have some amazing fresh milks in here too.
