We got a very cute house at a really competitive price with no hidden costs and even one perk, landscaping is included. No pet rent or weird admin fees. The house had a very long term tenant and is charming and old classic classy place. They replaced the washer/dryer with new. Even though the old might have had a few more years left. Also, when a minor plumbing situation came up they immediately responded to get it fixed. Pretty much the worst property management company in North Portland. God help you if you live next to one of their tenants and have a problem. They will absolutely do nothing to remedy the situation. They have absolutely no intention of garnering a community spirit in neighborhoods, it's essentially finding tenants for their slum lord clients. This is common thing to hear about Farrell. I have rented with this management company now for multiple years. They are horrible at returning calls, they never fix anything. Also when you make repairs or fix items in the rental property, and try to get reimbursed, they refuse and you are out of money. Over charged, under managed. This is not a honest, reliable property management. I have since left and love the new rental I am in. I never realized how bad Farrell and associate's were until I experienced a great rental property management. read more

I was living overseas and hired Farrell to manage my property ( one house-fairly simple right?). My tenants complained to me that Farrrell would not return their phone calls and it wasn't until after I arranged for someone to do the work (plumbing issue) did they finally respond. Of course the bill seemed OUTRAGEOUSLY high for what I considered to be minor work. The rent check had not been deposited and I assumed the tenants were paying late. I eventually emailed tenants to check in and they told me they had paid and as it turned out, Farrel deposited it two weeks late. It seemd I had to chase after them for every little thing. Of course they had their $ 500.00 upfront and 8% a month. After less than a year I quit using them. I later heard from my neighbor that he too had problems with them and quit using them several years ago as well. read more

Farrell properties took over a property we were renting from another management company and we couldn't of been happier! They were always easy to get ahold of. On Mother's Day weekend my washer broke and I was upset that I'd have to spend it at the laundry mat because it was going to take them 1-2 weeks to come out to fix it. Jeff quickly came up with a solution, I lived in a triplex and the end unit was vacant so he let me use the washer over there! He didn't have to do that but went out of his way to fix a problem instead of just saying sorry go to the laundry mat! We cleaned our place like crazy at the end because we needed our deposit back, we received a check in the mail much sooner then the 30 days they have to give it back, no hassle what so ever! Worst nightmare We just returned from 4 years abroad to find our rental house that was managed by Jeff absolutely trashed. We're talking cat feces (pets were NOT allowed), an owl carcass, layers and layers of dirt, melted wax from candles, soil rings from house plants all over the hardwood floors. The walls were painted black or with pentagrams, and the carpetJeff was always very evasive when we asked for information, slow to give us updates, and when we requested walk through photos, they arrived out of focus and impossible to make sense of, but always taking weeks and repeated requests to receive. He was always quick to take our money, however. Now we have thousands of dollars worth of damage--well beyond the deposit--to account for. I have no idea what we were paying for. read more

In November of this year (2012) my wife and I decided we should take advantage of the good rental market in Portland and buy a rental property. We are long-time North Portland residents and partial to the St. Johns area. We bought a rental property about 18 years ago in the area, and it has proven to be a good investment. So one of the criteria for choosing a realtor was that they be very familiar with St. Johns and also know the rental market. Mark Farrell gets big points on both counts. And Jeff Rhoads, the property manager with Farrell's, has done a great job of managing the first property for many years, advocating for us as well as for the tenant. Mark and Jeff really know the area. We looked at maybe a half-dozen houses through the month and Mark was always very straightforward about the pluses and minuses of each one, genuinely concerned that we get a low maintenance, easy-to-rent property. We were never pressured. And he was always available and easy and pleasant to work with. Once we found a house in our price range, in a good neighborhood, Mark helped us negotiate some necessary repairs with the seller, and arrive at fair price, and we made the offer. Mark did a great job guiding us through all the layers of paperwork, too. The closing was delayed a couple weeks due to uncooperative weather making the said repairs difficult, but eventually they were done and the deal closed in late January. All quite painless. (if you can call getting a mortgage painless these days). And to top it off Jeff had the place rented on the very day the deal closed. Couldn't really have gone much smoother. read more

We worked with Jameson from Farrell and Associates. He was recommended to us by one of our good friends and we loved working with him. He was extremely active in helping us find new leads that met our criteria, meeting us at all the houses we were interested in (even outside of his normal area), and doing research when necessary. One thing that made me trust him was that if we had a question and he didn't know the answer he would tell us he didn't know but would immediately run it by the principle broker to get an answer. We never felt we were being lied to or pressured into buying something we didn't want. It's easy to tell that he loves what he's doing and is just as invested in finding a house as we were. Listed our property with Farrell, as we knew they had an extensive knowledge of the neighborhood, and were well acquainted with the market we were listing in. Mark laid out a plan, gave us a few pointers on how best to prepare the home for sale, and followed through perfectly. For Mark's part, the sale had it's complexities, yet he never once mentioned the extra work he had to put in, due to the negotiation process, nor the fact he was selling a home that actually had three owners, each of which had the ability to derail the sale. Mark addressed each of our requests, and the sale could not have gone more smoothly. If we list in the future, Farrell and Associates will be our first choice. read more

Under no circumstances should you ever rent from these people. The do absolutely nothing to maintain their properties. The house I was in had black mold everywhere, the faucets didn't work correctly, the wiring was so bad if you plugged into two items on the same circuit, the breaker switched off. The garage was full of mice, the driveway was broken into pieces, the roof was so far gone there were plants growing out of it, there was so much moss on the walkways I took my life in my hands every time I went outside. And if I ever asked them to fix anything, they said: "Do you know how much more we could be renting that place for?" I met a woman whose son rents from them, and she said there was so much rot around his ink, it was about to drop through the counter; of course they wouldn't do a thing about it. And they are not cheap! As this woman said, they are largely responsible for the huge leap in housing costs in North Portland. It is beyond me why people hire this irresponsible operation to run their rentals for them. The house I was renting has gone from a nice property to essentially worthless. read more
