I had the delight of trying Farola Empanadas today while visiting Ukiah for a quick bite. I ordered from the window on the side of the building. The staff member was so nice when I asked about what was popular (he basically said a majority of the things on the menu). I decided to try the Beef empanada and the Truffle&Mushroom empanada. I assume they were made to order since it took about 15 minutes to receive. Both were delicious! The beef was very juicy and practically splashed on me when I took a bite. I particularly enjoyed the Truffle and Mushroom more as it was more balanced in flavor and it paired perfectly with the garlic aioli. I recommend giving them a try if you're in the area and craving some empanadas. read more

These are the best empanadas I have ever had in my life! Everything tastes impeccably fresh and full of flavor. We had the Lentil & Quinoa, a Truffle Mushroom special and a Toscana Canastita (the pesto was so yummy!) Amazing empanadas! We were lucky to stumble upon this place when we were passing through town. Had all veggie/vegan ones and all 3 were incredible! Same thing goes with their service. If I lived in the area I would be eating one of these every week. There a a couple of tables outside incase you're wish to eat them right now. Or can carry out of course. Definitely do not miss getting some of their sauces! And yeah plan on spending about $10-12 per person, but the quality of the food is worth it. The setting seems to be more of a place where you'd get them to go, but we ate ours on the sidewalk tables. Enjoy! read more

Not only was the food good but the girl that took our order was so nice and super helpful. She answered all our questions and suggested things. FAROLA IS A MUST!! It took me a while to get into this place to check it out--it is not easy to get info about the place or see a menu. The web site appears to be hosted by another organization and the on-line order option takes you to even another site, also the only place there is a menu. The on-line ordering was marked NOT working when I looked. The building: Farola is housed in one end of a bar called the Pub. You can order at a window standing on the sidewalk outside, on a side street. It does not look inviting or like there is much in there! No awning, no seats, just a bare wall with a sliding window. You can go inside through the Pub to a similar widow on the bar's north interior wall. There IS seating here which is welcome since this is not fast food! (That's a good thing!) However, the bar is dark and gloomy, not the kind of place I ever frequent. There is an outside walled-in porch-style area off the bar, where some go to smoke. Unfortunately, they had its door propped open and we were dealing with some distinct odors that were not at all welcome. Take-out seems to be the main idea here, but for the price, an attractive seating/dining area would be appropriate. Now, having said all that, so a newcomer won't be surprised, I will echo so many other's opinions: the food is superb, the personnel very friendly and helpful. See other reviews for glowing descriptions of flavors, crusts, and vegetarian/vegan choices--they are true! But I am sad to have to end with a comment on the price. I paid $30 for two of us, for only two items each (we went home and found some more to eat, which NEVER happens other places we go, from fast food to sit-down dining). The empanadas are small, but the canasitas are remarkably tiny! Wonderfully good, but tiny. I realized later, reading other's reviews, that sauces were available which may have made "wonderful" even better! If I had to describe the food here in one word, it would be "YUM!" I saw some friends talking about Farola and knew I just had to give it a try. Ordering was incredibly easy using their online platform, and we were surprised at how quickly our order was ready. Pickup was fast and easy as well! We had two of each empanada (besides for one that was sold out!) and woooow are they divine! The shell of the empanada is soft with a little crunch, and filling is perfectly seasoned, and the amount of food for what you pay is great. We can't wait to dig in again. This is an initial review to help get the word out there. FYI: I plan to return so first of that is a good sign and second I just ordered one to test it out for future dining. My partner and I are vegan and are always on the lookout for vegan options and Farola has a good one. It is their Lentil and Quinoa (Vegan) empenada. Made with lentils, quinoa, onions, bell peppers and spices with a vegan olive oil based crust. I agree it is a great choice for vegans and carnivores. We really enjoyed this empanada and as we were just testing it out we ended up being sorry we only got one to split. For a lunch I would recommending getting two to get filled up nicely . The filling was flavorful and moist. I was afraid it was going to be dry inside but it was great with a nice balance of flavors and spices. I recommend people try them out. I bet their meat options are very good too but a meat eater will have to review those. I think they would be a lot of fun for a party as you can order ahead in batches and they have an option at the time of this review where you could order ahead a batch and take them home and bake them yourself. Delicious empanadas and canastitas. We tried a selection of the vegetarian options as well as the chicken. They didn't disappoint. And the two people working were super helpful and didn't steer us wrong. Our favorites- both of the canastitas (toscana and caprese), the fugazetta, and the chicken! But the humita, lentil and quinoa, spinach and mushroom, were all really tasty as well. We got the chimichurri, garlic aioli, and creamy cilantro sauces. hmmm...5 stars are not enough as a well-deserved rating. As a vegetarian, I find it nearly impossible to find a menu with more than two boring and at best disappointing vegetarian choices. Along comes FAROLA! 60% of the menu is vegetarian! Husband is a meat eater, (ugh. can't win them all, I've tried). He ordered the Chicken Empanada, the BCB and Capo Canastitas. I ordered the Spinach Mushroom and Humita Empanadas with a Caprese Canastitas. The combination of flavors were delicious and such a welcomed treat. The surrounding pastry is perfectly lovely. The outside has a nice crunch with a perfectly soft center. I would suggest ordering three items per person, as the portions are not large, but they are satisfyingly-well filled. I'm not hungry anymore, although I would gladly reorder right now just to have another taste of the deliciousness. I was told that expanding the vegetarian side of the menu was in the works. I hope that is, The prospect is exciting and I have no doubt that everything they create will be just as tasty. As great as the food is/was, equally as great are the very friendly and welcoming folks running the place. The service and accommodation made FAROLA a pleasure to do business with. I asked if our order could be ready for pick up a couple hours later and they were happy to do so. Check them out. You will not be disappointed. So many unique flavors! They have a great selection of vegetarian empanada options and fresh sauces to try. I had a quick and easy experience at the walk up to go window outside the Pub bar, literally a hole in the wall. They have online ordering as well. They were very knowledgeable about the menu and sauces. They do take credit cards. It only took about 15 minutes and my freshly made empanadas were done. The boxes keep your little pockets of flavor safe and warm in the car on the way home. We ordered 8 for three of us for a late lunch. I would suggest 2 to 3 per person. They are stamped on the crust to tell them apart. I didn't think to take pictures of the center but I can say that they were all very full of fresh ingredients! The dough was light but had enough body to handle the fillings no falling apart and no leaks on the sides. My husband liked all of the options but really wanted a marinara to dip into especially for the Spinach and Mushroom one. All the sauces offered are really yummy but I loved the chimichurri sauce the best ! The Caprese Canastita was my favorite. It was very flavorful, I could eat them everyday! Before you go, understand that these folks make empanadas to order. I waited for 25 minutes. The empanadas are quite good and worth the wait though. They charge accordingly for hand made empanadas.
