    Lunch!
    MaryLinda W.

Owners of a local business mentioned this establishment, among others in the area, as a good option for lunch, and we were not disappointed! The grill is a small town diner with tasty food. We started with iced tea, unsweetened for Hubby and a blend of sweetened and unsweetened for me. The special of the day was chicken fried steak with two sides, of which I chose mashed potatoes with gravy and green beans. Hubby chose off the menu, ordering an open face roast beef sandwich with gravy, mashed potatoes and green beans. The portions were generous and filled our hungry tummies. The homemade pies were tempting, but neither of us had room for dessert.

We were looking for a nice local Spot to take the family for lunch after a day at Elk Creek Hunt Club. We were a group of 8. We were greeted by the sweetest waitress. She was the most lovely server. I watched her make conversation with every person who cane in the restaurant door. Upon our Servers recommendation, I tried the special. It was delicious! Fried Chicken, two sides and a roll. In fact our whole table was delighted with their home cookin. So if you are in Owenton, a stop in the Farmhouse Grill will not disappoint.

Was coming into town for business and saw this spot for lunch. A co worker and I stopped. They had a daily special that was a great deal if I didn't have to drive. Catfish with two sides and a desert. I saw it served and it looked great! They also had salmon patties on special. I had a cheeseburger deluxe with fries. And a coke. Service was fast and attentive. The fries were spot on. I Ben had to bang on the ketchup bottle to get some. Lunch with tip was around 10 dollars. I will be back when I come back into town.

    Tenderloins on special.

Chicken salad was ok but sandwich was pretty plain - just salad on bread. Coleslaw was good. Nice servers. Hometown dining room was rustic.

This diner is pretty good. They have specials daily but its not the best in town. Prices are fair. Food is ok too.

We entered the restaurant absolutely starving, but once we saw they allowed smoking in their establishment we turn right around and left.

It comes in two sizes and you have a choice of sauces. My grandson ordered the Grilled Mac'n Cheese with Waffle Fries - from the kids menu. My son ordered the Country Fried Steak with the Mac n Cheese and Rustic Mashed Potatoes. I ordered the Cuban Panini and a side salad. My son and I liked the pulled pork nachos appetizer quite a bit. We didn't leave a bite behind! My grandson liked his meal. My son liked most of his. He said the mac-n-cheese wasn't very good at all. My cuban panini was yummy. My son tried it, liked it and said he'd order it. The salad was fresh and I enjoyed it. My son looked at it and said, "You know I hate salad but that looks so good that I'd eat it." He didn't though. He still hates salad.

We were seated quickly on a Saturday afternoon after attending the New Richmond pride event. Ashlee, our server, was friendly and vivacious and made us feel like we were right at home, despite it being our first time. I got the crab cakes (a weird thing to get I guess but I love crab cakes!). They had no right to be as good as they are at that low price. I also enjoyed the sweet potato fries and Diet Mountain Dew (here's the thing, restaurants with Pepsi - if you're going to disappoint me with Diet Pepsi, at least have Diet Dew to save the day. But I digress). It's a ways out of the way but totally worth it to enjoy the cute town of New Richmond, a view of the river, excellent service, and delicious, affordable food. What are you waiting for?

Only downside was I was hoping to order steak and eggs, but found out breakfast is only served on weekends, which I didn't realize ahead of time. One evening, we decided to try a local place, Kelly's Homestead Restaurant, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. We walked in and found the restaurant fairly busy. After waiting at the entrance, the host simply asked, "How many?" then grabbed menus and walked off toward a booth without saying "Follow me" or offering any kind of welcome. She tossed the menus on the table and walked away--no greeting, no "Your server will be right with you," nothing. We sat for 15 minutes without a single server acknowledging us or taking a drink order. Looking around, we noticed other tables had drinks, but hardly anyone seemed to be having their orders taken. Eventually, we left and headed to Cracker Barrel, where both the service and the food were fantastic. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend Kelly's Homestead Restaurant.

The charm of old tables with mismatched chairs, even a bench made from an old bed headboard. The staff is great. Quick to answer questions and offer suggestions. The bar is huge. We started with the…read morecornbread with sorghum butter, and for entrees we got the vegetable plates so we could sample a little bit of everything. I had high hopes going in, and they were completely dashed. Let's start with what actually worked, because there were a few bright spots. The water was great. Our server was attentive and genuinely kind. The music and overall ambiance were lovely; it's clear a lot of thought went into the atmosphere. Unfortunately, that's where the good stuff ends. The cornbread was the first sign something was off. It was sour, like someone accidentally dumped vinegar into the batter, and it was thin, barely half an inch. The sorghum butter didn't taste anything like sorghum, and the quality was so poor I'd genuinely guess it was margarine. My partner ordered the hush puppies, which had clearly sat in the fryer too long; they were right on the edge of burnt. The mashed potatoes are marketed as "whipped," but what arrived was lumpy, skins and all. To be fair, the flavor itself wasn't bad. The mac and cheese was actually a highlight, smoky, well balanced, with a nice consistency. I'd recommend that one without hesitation. My farmers salad, though, was a mess: they dress it in house and way overdo it, plus they inexplicably loaded it with pepper. The cucumbers had a strange, off flavor that made them inedible. And then there were the greens, the biggest letdown of the whole meal. Sweet greens. Who serves sweet greens? It genuinely felt like the vinegar meant for the greens ended up in the cornbread instead, like the whole kitchen got its recipes crossed. I hate saying this part, but I have to be honest: the flies were unbearable. I spent more time swatting them away from my plate than actually enjoying my food, which is a hard thing to get past at any restaurant. Local Feed has real potential. The setting, the service, and the concept are all there. But the kitchen needs to seriously reassess these recipes and bring in someone who understands how to execute real Southern, farm-to-table cooking. I wanted this to be a great meal, and instead it was one disappointment after another.
