What can I say about this place? I arranged to use Kapp's for my wedding reception, and was sorely…read moredisappointed. Where to begin?
Every time we called to discuss our plans, we were told that someone else had made changes to our order, so we had to make it clear to them that we were the ones paying for our wedding, and that no one else was authorized to make decisions but us. There were issues with the menu, linen colors, and a coupe other things. You shouldn't have to keep reminding a business that they hold their contract with YOU, despite the requests or preferences of anyone else.
Every single time. It was made even more frustrating for the fact that the business was very slow to return phone calls, (about 2 days each time) and they only had a "MySpace" page instead of a website.
The day before my wedding reception, I arrived to set up and was shocked to discover that the room smelled heavily of mold and mildew. Not a faint odor, but as if the carpet or walls had severe water damage. You know that smell... No excuse, no explanation by the owner who greeted me there. I ended up spraying nearly an entire bottle of Fabreeze inside just to help tone down the nauseating stench.
I was equally let down by the food- we ordered the chicken Marsala and some other beef dish, and they were terrible. I've had worse, far worse, but we were paying good money for our guests to have a buffet-style meal, and even though I hadn't eaten all day, I couldn't even finish my plate. The set-up was very inconvenient, as well. The head table is placed on the dance floor, so after the meal is through, that table is broken down and you no longer have a place to sit. I was told that I should just sit anywhere I wanted (one of my guests chairs?) because that was the way it had to be. There were also large support columns throughout the room, and some of the tables were jammed behind them.
Another frustration was the "smoking area" on the back patio. There is a back door to the place located just behind a row of tables, and they kept that door open the entire time, so the smoke permeated the room. They insisted it remain open, despite my quiet request. It was awful. I found it very distasteful that the door was open when I was trying to enjoy my dinner.
Also, someone allegedly snuck in liquor at some point, (we bought several kegs from the venue) and the owner threatened to call the cops. There I was trying to enjoy my wedding reception, when all of a sudden I had people directly in my face screaming at me to do something! I had no idea what was going on at all, and it was very distressing.
Even worse, there was a huge altercation between his daughter's boyfriend and one of my guests... in front of everyone. (Thankfully, this happened after my husband and I had already left the site...I'd have called the cops) I have no idea why they were even there, but they had no business acting so childish. I later learned it was a jealous boyfriend of hers that couldn't keep his attitude in check. I might have been able to forgive the poor food and even the problems with the venue, but the way the owner and his kid behaved was absolutely unprofessional. To this day I am still mortified by what went on at my wedding reception. It's difficult to look back fondly on that evening when that family made such a horrible display.
