Never a disappointing trip to Farmer Joe's Gardens. Closing for the season on 10/27 so I had to go and stock up for the off season. Whole dill pickles, fire and ice pickles, salsa, spiced peaches, apples, squash, cheese, eggs, sparkling cider. Hope I can make it through the winter! Farmer Joe's is like having a farmers' market at your convenience every day. It is simply the most amazing place to buy fresh fruits, vegetables, local dairy, grass-fed beef and so much more. Farmer Joe grows all the vegetables he sells on 150 acres in Northford, CT. While not officially "organic", he uses only organic pesticides and only as necessary. He also sells grass-fed beef and humanely-raised pork products (the smoked bacon is fabulous and I have never eaten Italian sausage like this before - delicious!) No antibiotics, all natural... same with the dairy products (Greek yogurt to die for and fresh cream that hasn't been ultra-pasteurized so it tastes like the real thing!) I could go on and on... in the summer the multiple varieties of heirloom tomatoes had me eating tomato salads every day. There were sweet potatoes so large, one potato could feed a family of four. Fresh greens, winter squash, salad vegetables. Plus honey, fresh canned fruits, salsas, jams. For a small place, they pack in a tremendous variety of produce and foods. They also have a program to buy weekly "shares" which I haven't yet tried, but will this coming summer. For a set price, each week you get a box with an assortment of whatever is in season. It's a great way to introduce your family to vegetables that you might not otherwise try. There is one green house with bedding plants and container/hanging baskets and in the fall, gourds and pumpkins. All in all, it's a pretty amazing place and the prices are the same or lower than what you see at the farmers' markets. And, a big shout out to the staff! Nicest people you'll ever meet. I can't say enough good things about Farmer Joe's, I only wish I had started shopping there sooner. read more

I love my medium size farm share I pick up every Saturday during the summer. They had fresh hothouse tomatoes starting in early June that were full of flavor! Great place to get vegetable and flower plants for the garden. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable about their products. The prices are very fair as well. I'm looking forward to getting another farm share next summer as well as the plants for my veggie garden. read more

I love going to Farmer Joe's at least once a week for farm fresh produce, Cheese, and the occasional baked good, plus the ice cream they have here is top notch!!! My little kids love to look at the animals. I get all of my seedlings at the farmers greenhouse and during the growing season we also have a small garden at our home we grow our own. The staff are willing to go out of their way to help with whatever you need. I bought lettuce and they literally pulled it from the ground. Went to Farmer Joe's today to get yogurt. Checked on internet to see if they were open. Said open. Got there and the girl said, as I was walking in, "I'm sorry we're closed, we close at 2:00 on Sundays". Well it was almost 2:00, but it was actually 1:58. Could have gotten what I needed in less than a minute. Kind of made me annoyed since I made a special trip. I usually love this place, but don't like that they closed early, even if I was cutting it close - it still wasn't 2:00. Not good business practice in my opinion. Maybe I'll go elsewhere next time. read more

I've been a CSA Member and fan of Farmer Joes for a few years now. Never disappoints! Weekly shares are plentiful, diverse and fresh.

Very nice people run this place. I have always been happy with how warm people are who work here. You can also find herbs, flowers, vegetable plants for sale for spring garden season. More is on it's way, at least that's what I was told when I stopped by last week looking for lemon balm. Very convenient location on a corner of 68 right before highway on-ramps.
