I'm currently on a spiritual quest to find the best grocery store rotisserie chicken in the world,…read morewhich I have dubbed "Chicken Wars." Next up is Fortino's in Toronto, Canada. We have gone international. A whole Tuscan style tissi ran $11.46 USD. It ended up landing at 8.1/10, which currently ranks it 12th out of 41 grocery store birds I've currently tried. Shoutout to my dad for being my production assistant on this one, gotta keep it in the Family. I'm working on a website for the rankings to live, so stay tuned on that. LOVE YALL! I purchased from their hot food counter which is basically a Chinese food restaurant. The food was actually tasty and relatively cheap... definitely an easy stop on the way home if you know dinner isn't made. On my second and third visits though... unfortunately the rude customer service staff at the front lost them a star. At bare minimum say hello, thank you or smile. Throwing my receipt at me and pointing instead of replying doesn't work for me, as they spoke to each other about their weekend plans. It's also always a bit difficult as well when the majority of staff throughout the store doesn't speak English. Not the end of the world... I did get many steps in trying to find items myself! Lol All in all though, when I'm in town this store will very likely be a stop every time. Pros: Location (Derry Road & Bronte in Milton) in an outdoor plaza, store layout, cleanliness, selection of items, hot food menu station & taste, prices Cons: Staff (they can work on that), parking can be tricky when they're busy

Review for only the bakery section, not the grocery department…read more I gave the Adonis baked goods section a try as they had a wide selection of cookies, full sized cakes, and treats, and I love pistachio flavoured sweets, which they had lots of. Since it was right after the holidays they had small and medium gift packages of cookies, and cookies individually are priced by weight, though there was frequent lack of signage to tell what the cookies were or what they cost. I opted to try some cake slices prior to getting a whole cake of the same flavour. I got the pistachio swiss roll and pistachio cake slice, and the staff had mentioned the rectangular cake slice would taste more strongly of pistachio. I tried both at home and the swiss roll has a stronger pistachio taste, both were kind of weak tasting, but that is not the issue at hand. Both the cake and swiss roll were tough and stale, to the point where grocery store frozen cake tastes better. Even those $5 or $6 vanilla cakes at Walmart are not this hard. The cream, the sponge cake, all of it was old and rubbery. Save yourself the pain and get cake somewhere else. I felt like I was eating fake wax food instead of real cake. I'm really disappointed as their bakery section is huge and seemed to have a lot to offer, but I've been burned and am reluctant to try their other sweets.

The store had a way of getting great watermelons. During 2019 and 2020 the Longos was part of my jogging route. I would go up Glen Erin and pass by Longos the way back for a cake sample around d 8-9am. The store usually have the one-off item on sale. They also run some great seasonal sales like corn, gala apples and seafood. As of late still not a fan of the single serve desserts. They used to make it in-house which was more handcrafted, now they sell the premade defrost and serve. Cakes are made from supplier batter and assembled. So you make your choice if you want to eat it. #ThankyouThursday

I don't come to Longo's often so I was once again amazed at how neat the rows of produce were! They had a sample station between the bakery and the veggies aisle. They were sampling their festive turkey pie which was actually amazing. It is sort of like a chicken pot pie but is filled with what you'd find at a Thanksgiving dinner, so the turkey, stuffing, and cranberries are all inside and it is balanced beautifully. They were actually sold out of the pies - the last one in the store was the one they were sampling! Other cool stuff that I found at Longo's were apples that were red on the inside. There was one with a yellow exterior and the other was red, but they were both supposed to be red on the inside as well. These went for $2 an apple and they came in a pack of 4. Not cheap but kind of neat. I also saw that they had a 12 days of "Cheesemas" advent type calendar which I'm planning to sample. Again, not cheap at $20 but definitely unique.
