Do you ever feel like you're "unphotogenic", you hate pictures of yourself or the few pictures ever…read moretaken of you are always capturing your wrong side? Well, if any of that resonates with you, keep on reading. I have felt all of the above and if there's anything that causes me anxiety, it's having my picture taken. Sure it might stem from my crippling lack of self confidence and abysmal lack of success on dating apps, but let's not get into that. Let's talk about the amazing and fulfilling experience I had with Studio Ely. When it was time for my first consultation with Elina, I was already feeling timid, shy and talking in circles when I was trying to convey what photos I was looking for. A whole photo shoot?! For ME?!? Thank God, Elina was the shepherd I needed. Without interrupting my babbling nonsense, she managed to translate and interpret my incoherent thoughts into a mood board of artistry that would make Michaelangelo weep. The patience and understanding, Elina demonstrated in the first call alone helped to thaw my frigid trepidations away into bubbly feelings of excitement. From guiding me towards the perfect outfit, the colors that should be used and the mood of the portraits, Elina made sure she knew exactly how I wanted these portraits to capture me. When I got into the studio, still admittedly nervous through no fault of her own, Elina picked up instantly on my silent cues and effortlessly made me feel more at ease asking me to play my own music. The paragon of self-empowerment, Elina elevated my confidence with the perfect mix of professionalism and family-like care to make me feel comfortable in capable hands. I found myself laughing and smiling as the conversation flowed like a river flows in you by Yurima. Tranquil, yet joyous; Uplifting, but serene; Professional, but cozy. We travelled across a whole range of moods and portraits that the whole photoshoot seemed to fly by quicker than a shooting star. The results? Jaw-dropping captures that I never imagined possible. Blowing my expectations out of the water, Elina wholeheartedly deserves this 5-star review and your business if my words have any merit. If you want a photographer, nay, a savant of their craft, look no further. I vouch that you'll be more than pleased with the results. TLDR - Elina is amazing and book her for your portraits ASAP!

It feels so awkward! But, due to my mom's persistent nagging, I caved and started looking at videographers. That's how I found Acorn Films! As a newer business, they were very reasonably priced and were a total pleasure to work with. At the time that I signed the contract with Acorn Films, they had zero Yelp reviews (and zero reviews anywhere I could find!). So, I kind of went out on a bit of a limb. As the months passed between signing the contract and my wedding, I saw more and more of Shawn & Natalie's work through their Vimeo channel and blog. And I was really pleased with what I saw! You can tell that their editing work is just getting better and better. Fast forward to May, and my wedding day. Shawn & Natalie showed up right on time (if not a little early), set up, worked with the photographers and the DJs, and filmed away. When our photographer wanted to drive out closer to the ocean for a bit of a photoshoot, Natalie even helped drive me and my bridal party over. I barely noticed their presence at the wedding. Now onto the final product: the videos. You know, I hate to say it, but my mom was right all along. Videos are just so much different than photographs. Watching the short film made me feel like I was back at my wedding again. It's just different -- and I'm glad I went with a videographer. I loved my short film, it really captured the emotions of the day. The longer main film is something that I probably won't watch on a regular basis, but man... the short film. Totally worth it! Shawn & Natalie really captured some great angles of the first dance, the ceremony, everything. In many ways, photographs capture the best moments of your wedding. But to me, video captured some of the best memories. Seeing my now-husband recite his vows to me? Priceless! tl;dr -- Shawn & Natalie from Acorn Films are great, wonderful to work with, and I love my video.

Yes, I was that extra at a one year old's birthday; however, it only happens once, right?! Back to my review--she blended seamlessly with guests and made everyone so comfortable. I love her clean, modern photographic aesthetic and particular way of framing photos. I don't know how she does it, but she seems to capture the authentic personalities of her subjects. To say that she is talented, is an understatement. She's great with older kids too--it might come from her being a mom! Fast forward three years, and I happened to enter a contest on her blog for a free beach session. I never win anything, but we WON! I was thrilled to follow up with my big boy three years after his bday party. My son and I had so much fun with her at the beach. She even brought snacks for him--I can't make this stuff up! Another year, another set of pictures with Maryam…read more This year, I started a small business and knew I wanted to use Maryam for my headshots and family photos to use on my website. She was so helpful even before the photo shoots with figuring out great locations that would fit my theme, coordinating outfit colors and choices for myself and the family, and being attentive to details like when sunset would be so that we could capture the best natural light. Maryam studied photography in college and it is obvious that she has great technical and creative skills that have been perfected. She is adaptable between getting the close up portrait shots and the action shots with kids who are non-stop. She makes sure to get a variety of different types of shots so your session has diversity of expressions, moods, and personality. Now, we have a preschooler daughter and a toddler son, which means both kids want to move around. Maryam was great at getting the shots, giving them breaks when they needed a few moments, and capturing real life. I once read a piece about a mom who was diagnosed with cancer and really regretted that she didn't get pictures taken of the family often. Who knows if that story was true, but it resonated with me. Although it is an investment to get professional photos regularly taken, having the right photographer to capture these moments is so so worth it. I feel blessed to have found Maryam because she has become a friend and truly is someone who cares about her craft and about people. Her quality of service is top notch and in a world where everything moves fast and we need to treasure the present, quality is so important.

We were very lucky to have their help, because without them our low budget wedding would have really looked low budget. Through their camera lenses they were able to captured and expressed countless moments of our wedding with glamour, grace, romance, happiness, and sincerity. Here are some examples of how amazing they are as photographers: 1. They only charged us $200/hour, and they stayed for 6 hours through our the whole wedding yet only charged us few hours of their work. 2. They were very experienced and detail oriented with regards to their equipment set-up, lighting, posing us, and enthusiastic about the perfection of each picture. 3. They delivered over 500 edited pictures for us to download within a week after the wedding. We are very pleased with their work, and just wanted to share my experiences with everyone.

Joyce seemed to understand the feeling that we were going for with our wedding and could answer every one of my photo-knowledgable wife's questions about their approach to photography. It was also important to us to know that we'd have two photographers for the wedding to allow us to capture both of us prior to the ceremony and Joyce and Randy provide that. They were exactly what you'd want on the day of the wedding: non-intrusive. Having just now received the final photos from the day, it was clear that they were there for many moments that we were pleasantly surprised by and captured all the important pieces without fail. Also, we weren't keen on the idea of too many posed formal pictures and they made that part of the day quick and painless. There were only two reasons that we gave them four stars instead of five. First, and this one serves as more of a warning to be specific in your needs as a potential customer, we didn't get as many still life pictures of the event as we would have liked. While it's typical that the bride and groom don't get to eat a lot, we're pretty sure there was a lot of beautiful food there and we were surprised not to see any of it in the photos. Second is that the engagement photo session that was included in the package was a bit concerning for us. We picked a location that had lots of variety and lots of different lighting situations and when we received the photos we became very concerned about their ability to ensure proper lighting conditions on our faces on the day of. However, once we discussed this with them and they let us know the difference between what they did on the test shoot day versus the day of, we were satisfied. That satisfaction proved true when Randy, because he knew it meant a lot to us, took test pictures of every important image to check the lighting before moving on. We would definitely recommend J. Perlman and R. Lutge to anyone getting married in the San Francisco Bay Area.
