So many people have articulated similar issues and concerns and I don't want to be repetitive, but sharing in the hopes it will help others avoid a waste of time, money, patience, and health. Main issues covered in this review are: approach to client engagement, concerning arrangement with 3 laboratories, non-secure transfer of protected medical information via a yahoo account, concerning medical advice, and the process/cost for requesting a copy of my chart.
It is easy for the cognitive dissonance to take hold and tell you, this is tough love, he's a straight shooter, etc. to excuse away the atrocious disrespect and all out disgust he exudes for any perspective, experience, fact pattern, etc. that isn't his. If you read the reviews there is a strong pattern of behavior across appointments and clients showing both thinking this is tough love, and conversely that he is pugnacious and viciously dismissive of people, science and medicine.
Today was my 3rd visit. After again waiting an excessively long time, I was brought back to the room to wait for Dr. Zanganeh. Again, a pretty decent wait. He walked in as usual with an air of being way too busy for the likes of a mere client - and I use client because I surely don't feel like I'm looked at as a patient - opened up a small file and berated me for about two minutes straight because I didn't use the specific lab organizations he suggests to get lab work done. He's really adamant about using only one of 3 labs, and they are just too far for me to get to. I called before my appointment and relayed that I'd be using the location nearer to me so I could get labs done there to fit in my full - time job schedule, and even offered to change my appointment date if they were worried they wouldn't get the results on time, but was advised by reception to keep the appointment. In fairness, the reception suggested bringing a hard copy of the record with me, but when I got my labs done, they said the results would be sent in a day or two, and they showed up in my chart in that same time frame. So while he went on about how I should have only used one of the labs he requests, I kept thinking that he probably has some sort of financial arrangement driving the issue. After he said "the world is full of people not so bright," referencing both me and the entire medical community in northern Virginia, I had a chance to interject and let him know that I had access to my lab results immediately. That didn't seem good enough. After more talking, I was able to interject again and sort of ask him to calm down, and if he can direct me to a place that has a signal I could bring the record up. He shuffled me out of the office and at the reception desk provided me with an email address to send the lab results to; apparently referencing them directly from MyChart was not sufficient. The address he gave me was a yahoo.com address. I asked him if he had a secure email address and he said that this was the address for the office. This also raised an alarm considering we are talking about a client's specific medical lab results. My screen shots from my record were also not enough, so I anonymized them while standing outside and sent them, and once they were received at the end of my appointment I confirmed the emails were deleted with the reasonable front desk representative. When I returned he said nothing was concerning about my results and I asked about a few results that were out of what were listed as normal range; he waved it off. To be so dismissive and tell me "the labs are just a formality" is troubling. I'll skip past the rest, but at the point when he yelled at me for not refilling a vitamin D prescription - that had no refills - and he said "I can't come to everybody's house to make sure they have their vitamins and labs" I walked out. No issue here with medical information that may be hard to hear, but the facts are disorganized at best and completely misused and/or inaccurate at most.
As I left I explained that I have never had an experience like the one I've had here and the senior receptionist appeared pretend surprised. Literally the doctor had shouted at me after I walked out of his office, and there was another client in the waiting area. I asked for my record and she was so unreasonably difficult. After she said, "what record? The record you just sent over?" I had to point to the giant file cabinet and say, "the record that looks like all of those." She said I had to go through a process and finally I was able to get out of her that the process was a written authorization, so I asked for the form. She gave me a blank piece of paper! I wrote "please give me my medical record." It will now cost me $40. She also told me that his specific yahoo account has a lot of extra security - that's not true. Don't get involved with whatever is going on here. Zanganeh may be called a Dr., but the entire operation is nothing near professional or credible. read more
