I never actually saw the doctor of the office. The front desk and reception staff getting the phones - Oh my goodness! It's really bad. They are dazed, lost and confused. From the moment I first went to the office and they charged me the incorrect copay to weird things with scheduling to going back & forth with clients a million times while others are waiting to just generally being unfriendly - not a good first impression. Short side is - Go somewhere else. Despite having some great nurses, front staff is unprofessional and a hot mess and is not able to handle sensitive situations.

When I was first looking for an OB/GYN (many moons ago), I was nervous and one of my requirements…read morewas female. I just felt like a woman would be more understanding of those sensitive parts and issues, and let's face it -- your comfort level is extremely important for this sort of doctor visit. I chose this practice being that is was mostly women doctors (at the time I believe there was one lone male doctor, but if I remember correctly at my last visit, they were all female) and they were affiliated with the hospital I would like to deliver my children at (also the hospital in which I was born at many moons ago as well - Ha!). I have been thru 2 pregnancies with this practice and they took good care of me, and my babies. Both pregnancies I developed high blood pressure towards the end of my pregnancies and needed to be monitored. They were very good with this. Because of the blood pressure, I was put on bed rest and then once I was closer to my due date, I was induced. Dr. Novas delivered my son, 11 days before his due date. Dr. Chamberlain delivered my daughter, 8 days before her due date. I think I've seen every doctor in the practice and I don't recall there ever being a time I was disappointed with anything. My kids are now 11 & 8 years old, and while I am done having babies, this practice is still kind and gentle and I am comfortable here. Even now that I've moved further away, and no longer work nearby like I used to .... I still use this practice and don't plan on changing.

Absolutely cruel, completely hostile to pregnant women who are overweight. I was shamed my entire…read morepregnancy by nearly every doctor at this practice (and a fair amount of nurses). Excited for my first appointment when I found out I was pregnant, the first thing my doctor said to me when she walked in (not even "hello") was a disappointed look and, "I thought you were going to lose more weight first?" I was under 200 pounds to start and gained 20 pounds (including the baby!) the entire pregnancy. The nurses "tsked" every time I got on the scale. I left every single appointment in tears. I left at 30 weeks to go to a different practice after another doctor there told me I'd "die on the table" if I needed a c-section because they "couldn't anesthetize someone of my size." To be honest I'm grateful they made me meet all the doctors at the practice, because they were all monstrous and I knew I had to go somewhere else for my own safety and that of my child. I did end up needing a c-section, and it went just fine. I had a healthy baby, an easy recovery, and luckily ended my pregnancy at a supportive practice that treated me with respect and dignity. Avoid at all costs.

I was very close to walking out of the middle of the appointment (I've never done that before). Was she having a bad day and took it out on me? That would be the only reasoning I could possibly come up with for having one of the worst doctors appointments (and doctors) I've ever had. I will never be a patient of Dr. Scanlon again. I had an appointment at the…read moreend of February and it was almost impossible to get ahold of a nurse to give me the results. They are closed from 12:30-1:30 for lunch and at 4:30 for the day. Even if you call around those hours, you can expect to leave a voicemail. And speaking of voicemails, if you call after 4:30, they don't even give an option to leave a voicemail. You have to call again the next day. It was end of April before I finally got someone on the phone to give me an update that they wanted me to come in for more tests. Thankfully, it wasn't anything life or death because I wouldn't have heard about it for 2 months... The other problem I had is that the ultrasound technician took my weight yesterday before I went into the room for my blood pressure and everything. Great, fine, whatever. But I get into the room and am met by a nurse who needs to weigh me. I said, "I just did that, do I need to do it again?" and she asked, "Oh.. do you remember what it was?" On top of that, 3 people asked if I skip periods: the ultrasound technician, the nurse and the doctor. I answered the same way each time. Seriously, they all carry laptops and are typing while you answer questions and between the two instances, I was left wondering "does NO ONE write anything down????" Just seems very disorganized and I feel like there should be a better system when it comes to passing along information, both from nurse to nurse/doctor and from nurse/doctor to patient. Work on it please because I love Dr. Scanlon (she's literally the only thing keeping me going to MCWH) and I really don't want to go elsewhere because I'm frustrated with the rest of the staff.

Okay great, I'm sitting here in the waiting room and the receptionists who work here are talking about how they wouldn't go here! Nurse also has some confidentiality issues, yelled out into the waiting room from behind front desk another time to discuss my diagnosis with me in front of many other patients and receptionists! As it was a very sensitive issue I had to request that we go back in a room to discuss! Why am I the patient having to ask this?! They also couldn't maintain my actual address in their computer system. Every single time I came in they had the wrong contact information, I would correct it, and it would revert back to an address I hadn't lived at for years, turns out that's where my confidential test results and bills were sent too. Fantastic. So if in 2019 you appreciate confidentiality and privacy, find a different practice.
