Far West Boat Tours, Lakeside Marina, Flathead Lake, Lakeside, Montana
Leigh H.

A very fun and laid-back large tour boat experience..made great by Captain Dan! Flathead Lake, in northern Montana, is a gorgeous, natural freshwater lake we wanted to explore as a possible new residence. Not having our boat, we decided to take a cruise to see it. Although you can purchase tickets over the Internet, the easiest option is to just show up at the Lakeside Marina - and board the boat. There, the captain himself is often selling the tickets for the 90-minute cruise. There are two cruises a day, during the summer months. Passengers are encouraged to bring their own drinks, lunch, coolers, whatever on board - though, there is free water plus soda pop or chips available for a nominal fee. Once underway, Captain Dan gives a completely entertaining and insightful guided tour - while inviting the young children to come forward to help "steer the ship". He proudly announces their names over the loudspeaker and praises them, in their navigational prowess. Great touch for families! The insights he provides spans from local folklore to lakefront property home prices/stories to glacial formation & geology to history/composition of Flathead Lake. Once a native of Alaska, now a year-round resident of Lakeside Montana, Captain Dan is an extremely competent pilot - of this venerable but very tidy Tour Boat. (Bathrooms were very clean and roomy, btw!) We highly, highly recommend this way of seeing Flathead Lake, by tour boat.

Nice boat and people.

We took a cruise with Far West Cruises and thoroughly enjoyed our time. Very relaxing and…read moreenjoyable. Would definitely do this again.

My stalled boat was towed into the harbor at 11PM. No one was there and my only option was to leave…read moreit overnight in a slip at the harbor . First thing in the morning I called to let them know (I'm 1 1/2 hours away). Within an hour I was called and nastily asked "where was I". When we arrived ours was the only boat in a slip, with more than 15 empty ones. The boat would still not start. I asked for a tow over to the ramp to pull it out of the water. They said they were too busy and to come back in 1 1/2 hours, which I did. They told me they were still busy but get my boat out--I guess he expected this 72 year old to swim it over. I got a tow from another boater. The ramp is adjacent to their business, literally a few feet from them. Without the engine, it is difficult to get the boat on the trailer. My 70 year old wife and I struggled to get it on properly while about 5 harbor workers "buisily" arranged life jackets and other items for the day ahead while watching us struggle. We did get it done, but 10 minutes of help would have made it a simple process. After completion I complained to the "boss". His smart ads reaction was..."have a nice day". Businesses with this kind of management and attitude should not exist and give way to those who are not assholes. I have boated Flathead lake for 50 years and have never had this kind of experience...especially from a commercial company. On countless occasions I have helped distressed boaters...often when it was inconvenient. This behaviors is a disgrace.
