She is very sweet and recommends products that work best for your skin but doesn't pressure you into buying any of them. I will be getting a facial as often as possible! One of the many things I love about her is she never cuts off more than I ask but is still able to make my hair look super healthy. Six weeks ago, I asked her for a pixie (the first time my hair has been short since the 90s), and I'm in love with it! My hair is fine and straight but she somehow coaxed shape and texture out of it. But, I was desperate, so I asked for someone on the day that worked best for me. They gave me to Edward. Edward is great! If you always wanted an awesome gay hairdresser, he is probably the one for you. He does talk a lot and will interrupt you without pretext, but in a nice way. I've never paid more then $40, including tip. The salon itself is really nice and swank. Everyone's nice and they offer you drinks while you wait. If you don't usually come into downtown, consider taking the train to the Warehouse District stop, walk less then half a block to the salon, and when you're done, go over to block E, grab a drink and catch a flick with your new do!

That said, Salon 71 is a medium-sized upscale "chair rental" hair and nail salon just above Bruegger's of France Ave in Edina. It has more of a "no nonsense" feel of it than many other salons of similar quality. I think this is probably because it is a chair rental place and the hairstylists would rather pocket their cash than invest a bunch of money into making clients feel pampered with candles and mood lighting. The interior is several shades of beige and somewhat drab, but it has great windows over looking France Ave, is very conveniently located, and has a great magazine selection. Personally, I go to salons for the haircut and not to pay for the overhead, so I like that it isn't super fancy. I also LOVE that they don't push product on you, as many hair stylists at the larger salons (like Juut) must meet minimum sales for product (lame). I can't comment on the other hairdressers, but I like mine, who I followed to Salon 71 several years ago after she quit her gig in Uptown. Services there include hair, nails, and wigs. No, they don't accept CC so dust off your checkbook...you gotta use that bad boy for something, right!?

Ever other sentence I was put on hold and finally made a reservation after 10 mins. Prices online looked good and after I estimated my costs I figured I would actually be saving money as they are a bit cheaper than other places in town. When I made the reservation they said that they do not accept credit cards. Ok - no big deal it saves lots of $$ in fees. When I arrived it was really empty and not very "Salon" like. Drab colors, nice windows of France Ave & Lunds parking lot but didn't feel very welcoming. (Maybe I"m just spoiled from Juut and other places I"ve been.) They do serve water and coffee but in Styrofoam cups. (I'm against Styrofoam when there are plenty of other cups/glasswares that are much safer for the environment.) My stylist (Jordan) was very nice and did a great job with my color & cut. When I was done my cost went up because "she had to do so much work back to back & needed more dye". (Side note- It was a trim of 1 inch and a full highlight. Which is what I booked for!!! Plus she never ran out of dye in the first place.) So I go to write a my check to pay and the check was made out to my stylist who's real name is Heidi?!? not Jordan. I left happy but with a bigger dent in my wallet than I had planned on. Not to sure if I will go back.
