I've been going to Lisa at Fancy Nails for about 3 years. She is meticulous in her work, and in the cleanliness of her salon. Reading a couple of the negative reviews, I'm just not sure who is writing such nonsense. The salon is spotless, Lisa consistently sterilizes her tools, and her command of English is excellent, Her prices are extremely reasonable, and she does excellent work. Manicure/pedicure here was okay. The woman who did my nails seemed like she was in a hurry. The hand massage for thmanicure was less than 30 seconds, disappointing to say the least. My pedicure was sloppy and she got nail polish on the skin of my toes. Cheap in price but not great quality. Probably will not return. read more

Victoria is hands down the BEST manicurist I've ever had. She is the business owner of fancy nails and is very good at what she does. No matter how busy it is, she treats your appointment with patience and care. She is also very funny and has a great personality. The studio is very organized and she keeps track of when your next appointment should be- and books ahead of time. If you cannot make the appointment, she is good about rescheduling next day. She is accommodating with walk-ins as well. If a nail chips, they will fix for free. The service is excellent and I am pleased to be a new client! I bite my nails from time to time, which is an awful habit I am trying to quit. She did an amazing job with my acrylics and she helped me set a plan as to how she will help me quit the habit. My nails look more natural then any acrylic set I've had in my life, and I've had a lot. I do not write reviews often but I was so pleased I felt I had to! I have been going here for a couple of years. I have done regular manicures, gels, French tips and the eye lash extensions- twice! I was the maid of honor at a wedding the other day and rushed in there with no appointment and got everything done. I looked amazing! People commented all day about m eye lashes and my nails. I like to have long acrylic nails with the coffin shape. Not only is it hard to find a place that still does acrylic but it's also difficult to find a place that gives me exactly what I want without bullying me into something I DON'T want. I don't like almond shape. I don't like short. I don't even like gel -- I prefer a matte finish. At Fancy Nails, I brought a picture of exactly what I want and was so relieved to get it exactly done the way I wanted! It's bizarre to be so excited to get what you want as a customer but every other place has always bullied me into what the technician liked better instead of what I liked. And for such a great price! Okay so a Full set (Acrylic nails) was $35. I thought that okay maybe because it's so expensive, they will do a good job. About two days after I got my nails done (mind you a full set, so it was new), the middle of my nails separated from the acrylic. Usually with places, i have a problem with the sides coming up, but the middle? It's impossible to find a person who does nails well in Massachusetts. I'm quite convinced. & FOR $35? I keep telling myself I won't go back to this place but its so cheap and convenient to my house I cant help but go there. The place needs to be cleaned. Like major. There was a hair in my pedicure spa. Also, the water was SCALDING HOT. I asked for them to cool it down but they just kept pouring more hot water in. My feet were RED when I was done. Also, I got my eyebrows waxed and they have every single person lay on the same towel without switching it up-the towel was disgusting and covered in hair and stains-I would not recommend getting waxing done there. If they took the time to sanitize and clean up the place, it would be great--always do a great job on my nails. But I think I will be finding a new spot from now on. read more

This place is horrible! I got a polish change on my toes and the woman who did the polish change didn't say a word to me! She also used the top coat as a base coat, and the base coat as the top coat! My polish didn't look all that great either. When it came to my gel manicure the woman didn't ask me how I wanted my nails filed, so when I told her I wanted them short and a bit square she continued to do it however she wanted to. She also didn't use any kind of cuticle softener or oil that every other salon uses. She also didn't say a word to me until it came time to dry my nails and it was time to pay. They don't have the prices listed anywhere and when I was charged $45 for a gel manicure and a polish change on my toes I was shocked! Especially after the experience I had. Save yourself some money and go somewhere else, where you will get a better service with a friendlier staff. read more

Safe yourself the time, and the pain! While filing down my old acrylic to lay down the fill the woman (whose name was never given) definitely over filed them, and then she burnt me with the nail file- NOT THE DRILL, the old fashioned emery board. It hurt enough to where I jerked my hand away from her, but she didn't apologize or even look up at me. She just grabbed my hand back and started filing again. Now we get to the drilling part. Once again, she way overdid it. She was grinding down my cuticles until they were almost bleeding. I should've left. She burnt me THREE times with the drill. No apology or even an acknowledgment. I should have left! Her son (6-8 years old) was playing behind my chair and bumping it and shaking it, AND THEN he was reaching around the side of the chair and hitting me. She asked him to stop once or twice, but he didn't listen. He finally got bored and went off to do something else after a minute or two. Why didn't I leave? What is wrong with me? Then, the icing on the cake, or the secret surprise as I like to think of it because it wasn't apparent until long after I was out of the shop: Remember how I said she was over filing the whole time? Well, she took the drill to the underside of my nails, which I've had done before with no problems. Once again she overdid it. The next day while I was at work my left thumb started to hurt, and then it started to bleed. Over the course of this weekend all of the skin underneath my fingernails (ON EVERY FINGER) has started to pull away from the nail. My fingertips are extremely sensitive and prone to bleeding now. I spent the whole weekend with band-aids wrapped around every finger, which is great when you're working all weekend backstage at Shrek: The Musical getting people in and out of their costumes at lightening speeds. You sort of need your fingers for that job. The whole process took a little over two hours maybe (which is RIDICULOUS. It was just a fill!!), cost me $25, and has left me in an annoying amount of pain. Do yourself a favor. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! read more

This is my favorite place to get my nails done. Sometimes it can be busy if Lisa is the only one working. Lisa is definitely the best! I get acrylic nails and she is the only person I've had that can do them perfect. A lot of colors to choose from but mostly only OPI. For a basic pedicure, $30 seems a bit much to me. A pedicure at any of the nail salons on Newbury Street is $25. So why is it $30 in a suburb? The pedicure was just average. It felt slightly rushed because my friend and I went there 15 minutes before closing. The salon was kind enough to take us at the time, which we appreciated, but the pedicure was nothing special and not worth $30. read more

Gel french manicure - one of the best I've ever had. Called an hour ahead on a busy Friday before heading to a wedding. Lisa gave me an appointment and was able to get me done in a timely fashion. Price was great too. No compromise on the quality of the manicure and honestly, I am so pleased with it. I had on dipping powder & needed it removed so instead of wrapping each nail on cotton & foil she stuck my whole hand in nail polish remover & used a nail drill. The 2 ladies there didn't speak English so I couldn't even explain she was removing it wrong. Someone walked in & asked for eyebrows & they had no idea what she was saying. Fancy Nails is the best place around for waxing and nail care. Lisa is always able to fit me in no matter what. I always feel like a princess at Fancy Nails. I get pedicures at least once a month, waxing at least once a month and an occational manicure. I have tried many places in the area for waxing....nothing compares. The ladies that work here - so sweet. But the work, not so much. Decided to get a Brazilian wax here. Vicki wasn't proficient at all. Fancy Nails is under new management with Victoria. The place is immaculate, updated and comfortable. Most nail salons have an odor from the acrylic and gel nail materials. Fancy Nails doesn't. It is a quiet atmosphere which I like because my days at work are always noisy and hectic. The manicures and pedicures are very professional and they last a long time. If I could rate this place a 0 I would . I got a refill here and a 3 days later 3 nails were broken. One of which I came back to repair the next day . Still broke off the next day over. The refill Ive revived was so bad that I had to get a new set of nails 4 days later. Lastly, all of the nails that were repaired were so thin and looked do different from the others . Dirtiest place! They use a razor for pedicures, which I believe is a violation in which department of health can close there store down. They do not clean the pedicure spas or any of the equipment they use. I don't dare try waxing here. G R O S S! Only plus is that it is cheap, not worth catching a disease... I think my technician's name was Victoria. While she was very sweet, the filing & polish were very sloppy. I requested that she not cut my cuticles, but she didn't push them, which is probably why there's polish on them now. She was, however, very thorough with scrubbing callouses. Also, there was barely a foot or hand massage for my mani/pedi. I walked in on a Friday at 9:30 am & had about a 10 minute wait. Park on the side street or a little further East on Watertown St. so you don't have a 1 hour time limit on a meter. $40 for a mani/pedi. read more

I just recently started going to Fancy Nails in July. My good friend who is extremely picky and meticulous suggested I tried it out and told me that Lisa was amazing. So I decided to give it a shot seeing I haven't had the best luck with nail salons in the past. My hands usually get irritated from certain cheaper products that can be used. So I booked an appointment with Lisa for the next day. First of all, she is adorable and sweet. She did a great job on my acrylic nails. Esp with how picky I am with the shaping. They have a ton of polishes and Shellacs to choose from which surprised me. The seemed up to date with all the new collections that come out during the year and had all of my favorite colors. Lisa also gives very good hand massages :) My favorite part of the whole appointment. They are also offering eye lash extensions now too. Which I have been tempted to try. Victoria is the other woman that works there and they both seem so friendly and great with younger girls who get manicures while their mothers get their nails done. Overall I am Very Pleased and no irritation afterwards. Just really pretty nails. I highly suggest checking this place out and I suggest asking for Lisa. As for the bad reviews. People have off days. I have gone to Lisa 5 times now and Been nothing but happy when I leave. She is overall a talented nail technician and a sweet friendly person as well. read more
