I wanted to write a review because even though this trip was 3 years ago, I will NEVER forget this place. It was one of the most memorable dining experiences I have had in all of Portugal. The best thing about Portuguese cuisine is the simplicity of the flavors. Salt and pepper gives food a nudge but what you are served, from the meat to the seafood to the veggies shine on their own. The food at Pateo is fresh and simple and clearly memorable! The Iberian Pork was to die for! Simply seasoned with fries and I washed it down with a Super Bock. The service was quick and outstanding. And we sat on the well shaded Patio. Just loved the entrance. It had its own alley way. The place is not huge but works with a mid sized party. Would have loved to dine there at night. I will always visit Evora for this restaurant. Will never forget my experience here. Can't wait to come back! Easy to get here from Lisbon.

Yes, it is clear this is a spot for tourists, and because of that there are prices that are more in line with tourist prices - but this is an outdoor dining experience that is better than in most major cities i nthe United States. The service was good, the vibes were cool outdoor portugese dining on a patio type vibes, and the Iberian black pork was AMAZING. The chopped lamb pretty solid, and a couple drinks were nice, but not overwhelming. Good spot worth coming back to...not life changing , but not sure that's what you need in Evora.

So fresh and…read morecreative, we had the opportunity to speak with three of their produce suppliers as they dropped off ingredients that evening. Yes, it is expensive. Yes, the owner/chef is opinionated about how he prepares items, but the food and tastes were so, so very good. We started out sharing a large strawberry/apple salad that was exquisite, and I'm not a huge fan of salads. Next, I insisted that we try the mushrooms with balsamic and chocolate. Incredible! For our mains, my wife enjoyed a thin slice of steamed salmon steak, while I had a thin filet of sea bass poached in Champagne. The serving sizes were small, but the accompanying veggie tray was incredible. It had been challenging to get fresh veggies at dinner, and here we ate more and a wider variety than we had eaten since we arrived. Lots of herbs, with very little salt, which is how we prefer our food. Alentejo wines by the glass were lovely (though I prefer Douro and Dão reds myself). We had a lovely meal in an intimate setting (we put on a Sinatra LP). Definitely a treat dinner.

Quadruple WOW. This was truly a gourmet experience including curried vegetables, curried Salmon,…read morelamb, and a special black pork duet. Everything was excellent. We enjoyed Jorge, the owner, but we understand he could be over the top for some. For us he was an added benefit. The wines were very good, and mine was the first red on this trip that wasn't too hot. Kudos to our delightful server, too. She explained the creative parts of our meals very well and was professionally attentive all evening. Heads up: this is not inexpensive mass-produced Portuguese food. It's pricey if you have all the courses and wine.

Pizzeria L'Italiano was only a short walk from our flat and totally fit the bill. The two folks that greeted us as we walked in were perfect for the place. The woman wearing an apron that the lovely K coveted immediately, and the young man with the perfectly shaped and waxed moustachioed welcomed us warmly. We sat at a table of our choice and noticed that there were already four tables with reserved signs on them, so the place is popular for sure. We were offered pizza dough buns and garlic butter as opposed to the typical drop and charge that is typical in so many places in Portugal. We had decided prior to going that we were going to say yes. The bread was so warm, and soft with a crunchy exterior that once the butter was added it melted in your mouth. We ordered our customary bottle of white, a fresh salad and some pasta. The lovely K had the Cannelloni, and I the Tri pasta with spaghetti, tortellini and penne. Both sauces were the same with a different pasta noodle. Both were good, plentiful, but not awe inspiring. We are in Portugal after all, but the food more than passed muster. We loved the interior of the building as so often seems to be the case in this UNESCO world heritage site. The curved and vaulted ceilings are gorgeous , we wish we could have them in our home in Canada. If you are looking for some Italian comfort food complete with great service and fair pricing you won't find much better in Evora's old town. Salut!
