This place was recommended on Rick steves. We…read morecame for lunch and had the fried pork and clams. 2
of us ordered the same thing, the waitress was good enough to ask us if we were willing to share as it would be cheaper to order a plate for 2.
We also ordered olives, bread and butter and shrimps in garlic butter. The olives weren't that great. The shrimps were very good we dipped the bread in the garlic butter.
The pork was very tender and braised rather than fried. The clams were small and most of them had fallen out of the shell. The sauce was delicious. They said it's a typical Portuguese dish; I'd highly recommend this dish.
The server was very knowledgeable about the wine and asked if you wanted red or white AND sweet or dry. So they were able to give us a wine that catered to our taste.
It's located down a small alley I think it's quite popular at dinner and you probably need reservations but lunch we had no problems. As with all Portuguese restaurants they charge for bread, butter, olives; if u see them on the table be sure to say you don't want them; you'll be charged if you eat them. Also be sure to ask for your bill after you get your entrees or ask for the desert menu as they'll disappear for awhile as they feel it's rude to interfere with your meal.
My kinda place, off beaten path, hidden gem.
