    Pork belly & rice
    Nikki J.

Cute little place in the center of Evora! The pork belly was absolutely delicious! The sauce really set it off, and the meat was juicy with the crust still crunchy. I couldn't waste the sauce, so I draped some over my rice. The wine, of course, was good as well. Service was friendly, and it's easy to split a check at the register.

Welcoming, great service, great food. The soup and the mushroom and pear plate was delicious, as was the Mediterranean plate. Opens at noon for us foreigners. Even though it is outside, the canopy kept us warm and dry on a rainy day.

Stumbled upon this place as we were seeking refuge from the heat and washrooms. Enjoyed a light lunch - garlic butter shrimp and the vegetarian salad. Excellent combo! Service is attentive and friendly

Páteo was recommended by our tour guide and it did not disappoint! Service was kind and helpful when looking for wine and food recommendations, food was reasonably priced and tasty. Páteo has 2 televisions so we got to enjoy a nice dinner while watching soccer with the Évora locals. Overall atmosphere of Páteo was a 10/10!

    Mushroom with Poached Egg

Great service, excellent recommendations on wine and on dishes for the party (tapas, then main dishes). Food the Good: Mushrooms were fantastic with a poached egg. Pork cheeks were tender and juicy. Egg dish with chorizo was great, chorizo was not too spicy. Food the Never Again: Cod was way too salty -- this was the only recommendation from the waiter that didn't land at all with me or my family. Apparently this is typical for cod in Portugal (salted and dried and reconstituted (and salted again?)), but for us this was a definite no-go. On balance, four stars for service, ambiance, and the food other than the cod. Recommend trying this place but in general in Portugal unless you're familiar with the way they prepare cod, avoid.

great spot tucked away in the streets of evora. outdoor area is spacious yet quaint. fantastic sangria and large servings even of their starters. recommend shrimp with chutney; it was by far our fav. bacalao with chickpeas also good, roasted veg was nice to see on a menu which we got, lastly the steak which was a bit fatty and not our favorite. service got really slow even for euro standards toward the end of our meal (230ish)

Our last night in Evora and had to walk to town to see why everyone was raving about Pateo! Our tour guide recommended it, and many of the group went to lunch there. So happy we made the decision as it was a memorable last night in Evora. Nonou our waiter helped make our night so special by helping us order and being so patient. The portions are so generous, and the food delicious!!!

We had a wonderful experience in Pateo. It was our last night in Evora and we wanted to stay close to our hotel, Pateo was two doors from Hotel Rivera! Service was perfect, very attentive but relaxed. We enjoyed two cocktails, two apps, a bottle of excellent red wine and two entrees for a 73.50 euros. I had pork cheeks in red wine sauce with a sweet potato purée, my hubby had a huge slab of grilled beef, both were delicious. Highly recommended, staff really cared about the restaurant and it showed!

This place is amazing. Great food, good service, good prices. One of the best of places in Portugal so far. Specially good with meats. I recommend the carrillada. Good option if you want to seat outside and enjoy the day .

It's a small restaurant and reviews all said to have a reservation but we lucked out! We loved the set menu experience and especially enjoyed all the unique dishes prepared with local and seasonal ingredients! Each dish was explained in perfect English by our waitress too. The food was incredible, loved everything about this town and our unique and memorable lunch in Évora!

My companions were a bit dubious as we walked about 8 minutes to get there. We arrived for a late lunch and the waiter said that he could accommodate us only because he had some cancellations. He also said that there was no menu and we would be getting what was served. He also said that the ladies in our group would order the drinks and we would be paying. We doubled down. This is a quant family run restaurant. The chef is the son of the founder and the waiter is his son. They are lovely people with a great sense of humor. It's pointless for me to comment on specific dishes but there were maybe 16 plates. Pro Tip: No, they do not accommodate vegetarians. There was Black Pork(Jamon Iberico dummy) Beef, Veal. Crispy, braised, stewed.... There was a mystery Slider. When we thought they were done, they brought more plates. Oh, and There was a dessert plate with 7-8 Things on it. It was about 55 euro with drinks per person. One of my top 10 dining experiences ever!

Yes, the owner/chef is opinionated about how he prepares items, but the food and tastes were so, so very good. We started out sharing a large strawberry/apple salad that was exquisite, and I'm not a huge fan of salads. Next, I insisted that we try the mushrooms with balsamic and chocolate. Incredible! For our mains, my wife enjoyed a thin slice of steamed salmon steak, while I had a thin filet of sea bass poached in Champagne. The serving sizes were small, but the accompanying veggie tray was incredible. It had been challenging to get fresh veggies at dinner, and here we ate more and a wider variety than we had eaten since we arrived. Lots of herbs, with very little salt, which is how we prefer our food. Alentejo wines by the glass were lovely (though I prefer Douro and Dão reds myself). We had a lovely meal in an intimate setting (we put on a Sinatra LP). Definitely a treat dinner.

We enjoyed Jorge, the owner, but we understand he could be over the top for some. For us he was an added benefit. The wines were very good, and mine was the first red on this trip that wasn't too hot. Kudos to our delightful server, too. She explained the creative parts of our meals very well and was professionally attentive all evening. Heads up: this is not inexpensive mass-produced Portuguese food. It's pricey if you have all the courses and wine.

It sits quietly in a small alley in Évora, easy to miss, especially on a cloudy, rainy December day like the one we visited. We arrived for a late lunch around 2 PM. A few things are important to know before you go. It is cash only. Reservations are absolutely required. Even at that hour, several people were turned away while we were there. The restaurant is run by just two people, and that deliberate pace defines the experience. From the moment we walked in, everything felt personal. The owner greeted us with a firm handshake and a warm welcome, immediately setting the tone for the meal. The menu is printed, but parts of it are handwritten, with certain items manually crossed out as dishes sell out. It is a small but telling detail that reflects how the restaurant operates. Only what can be cooked properly is offered, nothing more. What truly sets O Templo apart is the owner's engagement. He takes time to explain where the bread comes from, how the olives are prepared, and the origin of the olive oil. His passion is unmistakable and completely genuine. The food is cooked with care and intention. Honest, comforting, and deeply satisfying, every dish feels exactly as it should. This is not a restaurant chasing trends or volume. It is a restaurant rooted in pride and purpose. Restaurante O Templo is intimate, thoughtful, and memorable. If you find yourself in Évora and want an experience that feels truly personal, this is a place worth seeking out. Bring cash, make a reservation, and slow down once you arrive.

The menu is rather limited though, with 6 meat dishes and 2 fish ones for main entrees, and not much appetizer choices to speak of. A bit disppointed as some of the dishes we've already tried in the previous few days and would have preferred something new and different. I ordered the Alentejo pork and clam, as it's one of my fave and I look forward to trying it right in Alentejo. The preparation here is quite different from most others. Instead of cubed pork and potatoes, they use large chunks of pork with french fries. Meanwile, the clams are tiny in size with many empty shells. Their preparation doesn't allow for the ingredients to cook together for the synergy of flavors. The dinner my husband ordered was the fried pork with migas - bread crumbs with asparagus. It uses identical chunks of pork. Migas is vry traditional dish of the area, looks a little like mashed potato, and I suppose in the old days a great way to upcycle old bread into a delicious side. The version here has lots of garlic - whole cloves of them - in it so I did enjoy it a lot, just wih it weren't so filling. Overall flavor is not bad, glass of wine is 2.50 Euro.
