Nicely stocked neighbourhood grocery store…read more Customers run into neighbours usually each and every visit. Employees were friendly and very helpful to the point at the checkout the sacker spoke up about a special price on 3 boxes of Chex cereal as my mother in law was making the second batch of Chex Mix. Everything we needed was there - though she was looking for Chocolate Orange and they didn't have any. So close to Christmas the place was packed though and it was difficult to navigate. Given how much snowfall there was the parking lot was in need of another scraping. And also given how far north it is and the amount of snow St Ignace receives I think they should have a longer entry area to make sure snow covered boots can be shed of the snow instead of making the whole store's floor slick and wet as you walk and it melts off.

Doud's is a small market, but it has lots of stuff. As far as I know, this is one of the only markets on Mackinac Island. There actually is another Doud's down Main Street toward the ferry area, but it's a smaller grab-and-go convenience store, mostly with snacks and coffee. My hotel was right across the street, so I bopped into Doud's a couple of times during my stay, to grab a bottle of wine (they have a decent selection of wine), some candy for my kids, and some fruit because I needed to eat something fresh. The store is tidy and everything is arranged nicely. They also have self-checkout kiosks, so you can get in and out quickly.

I had read reviews beforehand so I knew prices were going to be a bit high in comparison to other chain grocers, but this was our only option. So I'm not going to focus on the high prices and negatives but the positives from this shopping experience. First, their carts have a index on the handle to direct customers to the specific aisle they are located. Brilliant! Second, we were pleasantly surprised to find a Starbucks inside the door for a caffeinated treat after our all day drive. Third, a very nice customer, who happened to be in front of us at checkout, allowed us to use her frequent shopper number for the discounts. Given these things it was not a horrible experience!
