this isn't the kind of place you visit new hampshire for but in my world it's the kind of place you…read moreknow is part of your world, so you check it. truth be told, your humble narrator has spent a few evenings sleeping under bridges after wandering into discount stores for a can of dinner, maybe new socks. cheap is essential to underclass-men whether named "pay less" or "dirt cheap" or "bi-lo" or "thrifty mart" or on urban streets of cheap like canal or 14th or lower broadway. maybe even you once had occasion to cruise similar straits? perhaps your lesser told tales from the 60s when the mind wasn't quite right for awhile, one reason or another. times do wound all heels. but this isn't my first stop here, as i'm in this part of new england with some frequency. so this job lot is one of my usual stops, today not of necessiry but just now when i passed by i thought of writing about it because it's worth a mention. This is perhaps the best cheap store of them all, only way things could be cheaper would be free, or lifted. the floor space is considerable, not costco or walmart size but surely close to 20,000 sq ft of rows of everything you can imagine. what i like at places like job lot is these items aren't part of some large corporate purchase order for generic crap, made by a supplier of generic crap. no, there are actually many producers, usually offshore, of good quality items of their kind. the only problem is, the market here is tough and not every product that's offloaded at the dock gets to play on the big grocers' stage. so whoever bought the container load at super discounted price gets to sell it to places like this, if in fact the job lot didn't actually buy the container directly at auction. that's more or less how it works, and is more or less the reason the products here are superior to whatever walmart sells and usually at a higher price as well. so that's about it, how it works. and i like this place very much for any number of reasons. but really, it needs a photo to show some respect so here for what it's worth is one. should be more...

I'm not positive on that though. He is always friendly and welcoming. I apologize for not knowing his name. I appreciate him very much so. I am a regular at this store. I visit and spend my money there, on average, probably 2 to 3 times a week. I've always chosen to pull in to Dollar General rather than Family Dollar which is directly across the street. I need to address your employee, Darren. He's always been... off putting. I just assumed, hoped, it was his personality. Sadly, I now know that is not the case. Today, July 26th 2025 at roughly 3:10pm, I went in to grab 24 packs of sodas. They have always been placed just inside the doors. They weren't this time. I walked the food section. Couldn't find them. I went up and politely said excuse me to Darren. He was at the end of his transaction. Handing his customer his change. No one behind him. He raised his finger to gesture he needed a moment. To which I obliged without saying a word. He closed his drawer, walked over to me and said "now what can I help you with that you couldn't wait". In an extremely unjustified snarky tone. I didn't end up getting any type of answer as to where to find the product I needed. I've been in retail/customer service my entire working life. I'm 39 years old. If I see your cashiers vehicle outside I will turn right around and go across the way to Family Dollar. There was absolutely no need for his comment or more so the way he said it. Thank you in advance and I'm sorry to have to do this.

Dollar general in Walpole, every time we've been in there in the last couple years since they've…read morebeen there their prices have never reflected what's on their app. The prices are supposed to be specific to what's on their app because they make sure to put the location in. You can't see what the prices are when they're ringing them up because the register is faced and the other direction making it hard for us to keep track of what we're spending. When we ask the prices on items we're given attitude when a price is wrong we're giving attitude and when we ask them to check it we're getting attitude. Numerous times I've went to that location for a specific items because they're on sale or I see an item in the store that has a good price, but once I get up to the register it's a minimum of at least $0.75 more than what's marked on the shelf or marked on the app. Although the store is clean and presentable the prices are always wrong and the staff is very rude. There's been a couple times I've met staff that have a professional attitude but it's few and far between.

Personally I think they are a little small for a grocery store but reasonable size as compared to Whole Foods or The Green Grocery in Peterborough. I like the hot bar items but it felt like when we stopped that the options for the hot items was a little less than what it should be for 1 PM. The salad bar is also pretty stacked and we were able to get mac N Cheese, salad, soups and drinks for $22, which I didn't really think about but was pretty estatic on how good the price was. There are a lot of 'day traffic' that seem to stay in the dining area for extended periods of time writing or watching movies, taking up 4 seats for one person all sprawled out but I can't blame Wholesale for that. Will go to frequently.

That's 2 lies. When I called and asked for a supervisor I was on hold for 11 minutes and never got a supervisor! I do not want a refund and at this point, I do not want the coupons. Y do not lie and will not tolerate being lied to. I will not buy any of their products again. Carpe diem....Buyer Beware!

THAT SAID - this place being my first stop in Vermont really set the stage for pretty much the total opposite of everything I'm accustomed to (and next several days in the state passed the vibe check too!). It was wonderful to see so many healthy options inclusive of all types of dietary needs, as well as wide variety of locally sourced produce, ingredients, packaged goods, sauces, and more. Flowers/bouquets for sale in various parts of the store is a lovely touch! Had to smile each time I passed them. Everyone was so friendly and seemed brimming with enthusiasm and joy each time one person ran into another. I don't know if everyone *really* knew each other, but they all gave off an energy that they were so happy to cross paths and were all old friends. This being my first stop upon crossing state lines had me in such an inspired mindset for the weekend I even made a little walkthrough tour TikTok, and one day hopefully soon it will adventure its way out of the drafts. Oh! Thank you for showcasing local artists and events outside, too. And having a community garden?! I could go on and on...
