The front-of-house staff was friendly, welcoming, and actively cleaning the restaurant while taking orders at the register. The atmosphere is casual--perfect for a stop after walking around the beautiful nearby park and enjoying the waterfall. There's also outdoor seating available, which adds to the relaxed vibe. While visiting the Sioux Falls falls, I stopped here for coffee and ice cream. Both were fantastic, if not a little expensive for what it was. Service was on point. The building is a converted power plant that has been beautifully restored and converted into this cafe. The ice cream was amazing and appreciated on this hot Sioux Falls day. We only had the ice cream so I'm reviewing that experience. The server was very patient and personable. I asked her favorite and she suggested the lemon poppy. My husband had the lemon poppy with white chocolate mint. He thought that the mint could have been stronger but I thought it was minty enough. Personal preference. It was amazing. I went back in for water without an issue. Fresh food from the grill is served every day except for Sunday. I think this cafe gets a lower rating than it should. read more

This is one of the only places close by the downtown falls to grab lunch if you're hungry and in a pinch. And it has ZERO gluten-free options except ice cream... sort of. It had one ice cream flavor that was safe. Note that I have no problem having ice cream for lunch! ‍ And this cafe carries locally-made Stensland Family Farms ice cream, which I'd been wanting to try anyway. The only flavor that was gluten-free AND nut-free was the dark chocolate. At first there was very little flavor to it (it was super dark). Then it got better. And better. Overall it was delicious! It also settled well on my stomach (some ice cream upsets it) and I think that had everything to do with how their ice cream is made (see photos). Hubs had the flatbread pizza and said it was really good, so I'm giving this place 3 stars instead of 2. Would be nice, though, since it's in such a touristy location if it offered at least ONE gluten-free option (that wasn't just an overpriced, pre-made fist-sized "salad" full of ice berg lettuce and a couple mini tomotoes). If it's not 90 degrees out or freezing, there's a great little patio overlooking the falls (hence the cafe's name) where you can enjoy your bite to eat and the comforting sound of the water. The service was fast, though the staff didn't seem too knowledgeable about allergies, so I didn't really talk to them much. Good spot to stop and grab a bite while taking in the view of the falls. There's ample indoor seating, for those inclement weather days, and outside seating too. The food is pretty basic but, filling, especially for the price. Kids meals come with an apple juice, or chocolate milk, and apple sauce. I don't really have a complaint except to say this place has weak management and supervision. The Sioux Falls park was busy with good weather and crawling with people on a weekend in July. Its prime time,prime season and the cafe closed their kitchen in early afternoon. If that's the policy thats their choice. BUT, let everyone know. Put signs up or advertise. Let people know. I'm sure we were not the only tourists who would have patronized this cafe if they offered meals. Instead, they offered only hot dogs and ice cream. If you want to offer ice cream and hotdogs don't call yourself a cafe- it suggests you have more to offer. I have no complaints with the young people who are employed there. This is a management and marketing issue. With social media there is no reason to leave customers in the dark. Put it out there- cafe hours and menu. Ice cream parlor menu and hours. Yummy ice cream! The price was $4.25 for single scoop, $7.25 for double and $9.75 for triple. So we got the triple one. It's right in the middle of the falls park, it links with a fast food place as well with open seating, the line can get long during the hot day. read more

My bf and I spent some time at the park and we decided we wanted to get some ice cream and went to the overlook cafe. We got there around 7pm an hour before they close and there was a group of people fallowing us that had the same idea. When we got there they said they were closing an our early. When we asked why they could not give us an answer. They kind of shrugged and looked at us like we were dumb. Would've been less upset if they were more kind about it or told us why. Not a great first impression. There wasn't even a sign saying they were closing early when they said there was. I decided to check out Falls park on my way through Sioux Falls, and I'm glad I did. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous. I was very hungry upon arrival, and thankfully this place was just a short walk from my parking area. I got the Overlook Reuben on black French, and it was great. One of the tastiest reuben sandwiches I've had in a while. The order also came with kettle baked chips, so for me that was a plus as well. Everything they had on the menu sounded delicious, but I'm very happy with what I ordered. They had plenty of seating available even with all the people, but you could also sit outside and enjoy the awesome view while you eat. If you ever come through Sioux Falls, stop at Falls Park - then eat at this place. read more

** Caution**** This place is a 5 star operation in normal times I'm sure. Unfortunately, these are not normal times as we all know. The food was amazing, the view is spectacular, the ice cream is second to none, but their adherence to covid-19 protocol was virtually nonexistent on Thursday July 30 2020. Sure they have the floor stickers, signage and hand sanitizer for employees and patrons, but not one employee was wearing a mask during our visit. At least Ryan behind the ice cream counter was wearing gloves. My traveling companion stated she would not have stopped here for lunch had she known of their lack of adherence to safety protocols. Gal at the cash register overcharged me for our food and then couldn't figure out how to give me a credit for it so she wanted to charge me again! Love this place. The falls and the historic brick buildings jutting out the rock over the rushing water are must-sees if you're in Sioux Falls. This cafe gives you the opportunity to view it all from a patio, with a beer in hand, napkining tasty Reuben dressing off your lips. While the park itself is a nice visit, the only place to eat there is the Overlook Cafe and it is a terrible disappointment with bad food that is overpriced as well. We ordered the Fish Taco ($8) and a Veggie Taco ($8) both were soggy and served in cold flour tortillas and unappetizing. For sides we chose Brazilian Black Bean Soup and a cold Lo Mein Noodle Salad. The soup was not a black bean soup at all, but basically a clear broth soup with chunks of vegetables--it didn't even have any black beans in the broth. I asked if there was a mistake, they said that's how it comes. After just one forkful we knew the noodle salad was so over salted that it wasn't really edible. We told our server and asked for any other side as a substitution. The server said sure. Then the manager came over and said it could not be exchanged because we had already had a bite of it. We explained it did not taste good and was too salty to eat, and she said "well everyone else likes it" and walked away. I would give this place more than 5 stars if yelp allowed me too. Went there for lunch with my family, a total of 8 of us (I had the reuben, one of the best I have ever had), and then my father had his wedding there the following day. Tony (the Chef/owner) was absolutely accomodating and beyond professional with all of our needs. He and his staff were always there to ensure we had whatever we needed. My wife and I were traveling with our 5 month old son, which of course can always be tricky. They went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable before, during and after the wedding. As for the ceremony, evey detail was handled perfectly. The place was set up beautifully and the food was fantastic. I am in the industry and therefore tend to be critical of events like these, and I do not have a single complaint for the entire evening. If I lived in the area I would most certainly become a regular, the place is very nice, in a gorgeous location and again, has a fantastic staff. read more

Overlook Cafe - Sioux Falls , South Dakota was a pleasure surprise. Located on the east bank of the Big Sioux River in Falls Park in a restored 1908 hydro electric plant. Wonderful views of Falls Park and the Falls from the terrace at Overlook Cafe. We tried the Asparagus Pills - very tasty, and unique pastry with an asparagus spear inside. She tried the fish tacos and I had the falls reuben - both great choices for a casual summers eve on the terrace. The cafe is "order at the counter" and staff graciously delivers to your table. The Overlook Cafe is nice compliment to the beautiful Falls Park, if you're near or traveling by - stop in to enjoy the sights and a quick sandwich. read more

Great food and great staff but you go here for the view. Really cool historic view of the Falls that give the city it's name. There is a nice little hike and for those who have trouble getting around there is a nice lookout tower. The coffee is great and we had over the top bread pudding! read more
