My husband and I went to the animal sanctuary to adopt a kitty. When we got there we were greeted and shown different cats and kittens by Fara (?). She was so kind and patient with us giving us time to look and think. We didn't end up adopting because I didn't feel a strong connection with any of the current kitties however it was an overall good experience. Thank you ladies for all you do for the animals! I had spent a long time looking for an adult cat I felt a connection with to adopt. After looking in numerous shelters at about 15 cats, I was ultimately giving up my search to find "my" cat. One day, I ended up on the Fallbrook Animal Sanctuary website. I don't know exactly how I ended up at their site, but it was fate. I saw an adult, 10 yr old, black cat on their site that read "he is a sweet sweet cat that gets along with people and other animals." How often did I see that description of adoptable cats? ALOT. I decided a couple days later to go take a look. It took me an hour to drive there. My bad when I got there and they were closed! This was where fate stepped in... Vicky, who is an amazing volunteer, just happened to stop by at that moment. She was soooo nice to me! She didn't make me feel badly for being a tard, and not paying attention to their open days and hours which they have listed on their website. When Vicky found out how far I drove, she had the heart to bring me in to meet the cat (who in the world does THAT for someone anymore??!!!). Within 5 minutes, I knew this cat was "my cat". Vicky took the time for me to fill out my application. She told me she would call me after the wellness check was done and he was ready to be picked up. I was in no rush take him home yet because honestly, I did not think I would find a cat for me, therefore I did not have any supplies. Vicky told me not to worry about having to rush everything, and that he would be well taken care of until I was able to pick him up. I like that they were not in any rush to just hand over their animals right then and there. That told me how much they care for their animals. A couple days later, I drove back up (all prepared-lol) and picked him up. Like anyone, it took a couple days for my cat to get used to his now, forever home. He is EVERYTHING I WANTED AND MORE!!! He truly is a sweet sweet boy who gets along with everyone, just like his description said! THIS WAS FATE RIGHT!!! I LOVED my experience here and with Vicky. Thank you for all your obvious love for all animals, your dedication, and my new best friend :)) This will definitely be the place I go to in the future for any future adoptions. read more

Our family donates to the FAS anytime we have extra towels, mats, and blankets. Each time we donate, we visit the animals and staff. Last time we came to offer our donations, we visited the kitties and found two sisters that needed a home. We couldn't pass these ladies up and decided that we could be the forever home that these kitties needed. The staff were amazing, providing a full medical profile (one of our girls had some respiratory issues that would require attention), advice on integrating our girls with our established cat, and plenty of stories about our girls' personalities. They made the process easy, assisted with the paperwork, and even let us borrow a carrier to bring our girls home (we didn't intend to adopt that day and didn't have our own with us). The FAS staff is always upbeat and accommodating, and we'll continue to offer our donations; not only because they helped us bring joy to our home in the form of two kitties, but also because they take their mission seriously. They provide boundless love and dedication to countless homeless animals for no other reason than to ensure those animals receive the best care and attention possible as they wait for their forever homes. Half of my "Cat family" was adopted at Fallbrook. One came home around Christmas, close to 2 years ago, one on Valentines Day 1 1/2 year ago and most recent last weekend prior to the 4th of July! BUYER BE WARNED!!! Two out of the three kittens my mom and I adopted in February have had to be euthanized because of a fatal disease called FIP. FIP develops because of the coronavirus and having a gene mutation it is passed through fecal matter scratching posts and even saliva it develops in young kittens before the age of two. One kitten getting this may have been considered a fluke but 2 adopted from the same shelter the same cage with 10-20 other kittens is no longer a fluke.... and currently they are adopting out a kitten with the Coronavirus witch may or may not develop in to FIP but they are still knowingly putting a family in the possibility of going through what we have gone through. There is no way to test for FIP, and the % of cats that this normally happens to is between 2-5%. What I also understand is that once the Coronavirus is contradicted it's a waiting game to hope your kitten doesn't get sick and eventually die. There is no cure or treatment. The Coronavirus is contagious and symptoms could take over a year to develop. But knowing that no place should keep young kittens in large cages! They are opening the opportunity for an epidemic of kittens with the Coronavirus and possibly developing FIP. Beware of getting kittens from any place that doesn't acknowledge the risk of keeping kittens in cages together like that. read more

I wanted to adopt a dog that I really felt connection with. My dog passed and I was looking for another one I wanted a emotional support dog thought Willie was good fit since his age was 12 and I had means to care for him. They said they thought he would be better with someone else odd because I was already OKed by to other Dachshund rescues. Bottom line you never spoke to me or did a walk through of my residents so I am not sure how u base what is right or better for dog if you cannot communicate with the person looking to provide a great life for a wonderful dog?? Of course I love anywhere that saves animals. I'm an animal lover who goes to shelters every weekend just to give the animals some love. That being said, I came here and wasn't happy with what I saw. They have a lot of cats that are sweet but the area is so cramped, it's crazy. They had two huge dogs that were friends but would kind of start to fight when they got overexcited. I have two dogs who can get this way too so I understand but it didn't really seem so under control, especially compared to other shelters. It seemed like maybe they should have some kind of separation during the day time when people come in. The biggest thing was that there was a small dog that they had of which it hadn't been spayed yet so it was bleeding everywhere. They got a hose and just kind of sprayed the area. They said they brought her in yesterday and hadn't gotten a chance to fix her yet. Typically spaying and neutered the first thing a shelter does when they take in an animal. I don't know why they hadn't gotten her fixed yet or why they didn't at least have her in a separate area. I guess I'm just used to more structured shelters. They really do care about the animals. They are good people. I just didn't like some things I saw. read more

Posted a message to the Sanctuary's Facebook page at 10pm on a Friday night when we found a stray kitten in our yard. We received a reply within minutes. We went to the shelter the next day and everyone there was extremely helpful and courteous. They helped us to get the kitten vaccinated and a chip put in and let us know where we take him to get fixed at a discount. While there you could tell how much each person loves what they do and how much affection they share with the animals in their care. read more

Don't adopt here! I adopted 2 kittens Feb. 13th and had to euthanize one due to FIP on July 12th. My daughter adopted a kitten a week before me and we buried her cat last night due to FIP. They are not keeping the kitten enclosure clean and are putting sick kittens in with healthy kittens. How many other kittens have come out of this shelter with the same disease? read more

I adopted "Frankie" almost 3 years ago. I trained him to be a Medical Alert dog for my Diabetes. I had a diabetic coma 3 yrs ago and that is why I searched FAS and Frankie picked me. He has the best temperament for a service animal. I personally know the people who run FAS and they are uber dedicated. They have truly built FAS into what it is today; fostering 100's of animal as well as housing them in a fairly small facility. Frankie also came with many good habits; he still doesn't jump up on furniture (only my bed!) and is very polite and sweet. Plus, Frankie has saved my life 3 times early on. Now my blood sugar is stable and he rarely needs to alert me. He has also turned a two-person relationship into a loving family unit! Do not adopt an animal from here. This place does not care about the health of the animals they adopt out at all. We adopted Jumanji from here in March and was told a bunch of lies. First of all, they told us he was a young cat but our vet said he is middle aged/older and we were also told that he was healthy and up to date on shots. After we signed the paperwork for adopting him, we were told they could not find his medical record/vaccine record. They said we could bring him in and have him re-vaccinated so we bring him in a week or two later and got him re-vaccinated. Also they say on their website each animal is checked over medically before they leave the sanctuary which is NOT true. Jumanji did not have a medical check of any kind before he left the sanctuary. When we took him to be re-vaccinated we were not allowed in the room or even allowed to watch him be vaccinated to ensure it was even done. Also the cats here are not on flea or heart worm prevention so beware of that as well. This morning we called out vet and made arrangements to bring him in to be seen right away because he was wheezing a lot. Well as it turns out our "healthy" cat hat we got from FAS needed $400+ of veterinary care including x-rays and asthma medication because he has had asthma for a long time (keep in mind that we are a military family so this is a lot of money for us). So here we are under the impression that we were adopting a healthy cat (as advertised by FAS) but here he has had asthma for a while and will require medical attention & medications for the rest of his life. Along with that, he will need teeth removed due to him being older. NONE of this was disclosed to us by FAS and we plan on taking legal action for the deception and lies as well as to recoup the money we had to pay for our "healthy" "young" cat to treat his ongoing medical issues that were kept from us. DO NOT ADOPT FROM HERE!! read more

INHUMANE HORRIBLE PLACE! Their cats are very sick. I adopted a cat from them who had been there for moths and they vaccinated him as we were leaving. This would have been fine if he wasnt in a cage for months with 20other cats. I took him for a check up because I did not trust this place... turns out he had a severe infection in his ear & a messes up eye. I spent $400 plus the $100 adoption fee. Experience #2 I felt terrible for the cats there and decided to foster Annie. She is an older cat that was VERY sick and they will not take her to the vet. I am talking crusted snot and trouble breathing. They kept her in a dark cage on the bottom row. They told me i could'nt foster her and they gave me two 17yr old cats. As i left they told me not to worry about anything and they said they didnt need to see a vet...I was confused 'til i took them home and saw for myself what was going on. They wouldn't move or consume anything. They couldn't breathe either. I asked the shelter what was going on. They told me the girls hadnt eaten in DAYS. I looked back at their instagram and was able to see they had these cats for over two weeks and they hadnt taken them to the vet. I BEGGED them to let me take them to the vet. 3 days later they met us at the vet and the girls were put down. They were suffering for a long time. THEIR OWN VET was devastated and uoset with FAS. He said those cats were so sock they shouldn't have even been around my 2 other personal cats. I WANT TO SUE read more

My husband and I have wanted a kitty for some time now. We have been seriously considering it for over three months. We decided today was the day. We went to the shelter and were greeted with open arms. That's where the friendliness ended though once we got to the kitties the "cat lady" who's name was Kat proceeded to tell us which cats we could and could not adopt. Telling us which ones would be child friendly and then turning around and saying she couldn't tell us of their temperaments around other cats or dogs or kids.. One kitty was in love with my son but she said she wouldn't let us adopt him because we would just bring him back. I get it you work here and see a ton of ppl but when a family comes in to adopt and you turn them away because you have an idea of what we will do is just ridiculous. She kept showing us cats that we "could have". I am extremely disappointed in my experience here and wish I could have given a forever home to a kitty in need. Never have I been somewhere to adopt a pet that needed a home and been turned away. read more

Ok, first of all Lee P, an animal is not yours to do what you want with. It is a living, sentient being and these people here actually care about the animal's well being. When you were refused adoption it is because they ask that cats be kept indoors IN A HOUSE to ensure that the cat is safe from predators, cars, illness, and other dangers of living outdoors. Everyone is asked to care for their cat in an appropriate manner, and if that bothers you so much I'm GLAD you were refused adoption! I adopted 3 cats from FAS over 5 years ago, they were older cats even then, 2 of them were injured at the time of intake and FAS spared no expense getting them back to health. My cats are my darlings, and I'm so glad this place exists. They work tirelessly to feed, shelter, spread awareness, and get these animals adopted and having volunteered here in the past, I can personally attest to how hard these volunteers work to take care of all the animals and to find good homes for them. Things might looked cramped or less than perfect, but they do the very best they can with the funds they have. read more

This place was not good. For one they were extremely unorganized with there pets. We got two little dogs from them for two hundred dollars each with no shots and no microchip, after they told us they had those necessary things for the dogs. Our dogs also had fleas like crazy and we had to handle that as well after they told us they didn't have fleas. One of our dogs had a bad ear from whoever last owned him and they had none of the paper work or anything for the dog so we had to take him into our own hands and get his proper medication. Due to housing issues we tried to return the dogs after they said we could and got welcomed by a rather portly women with glasses and short brown hair (wasn't able to get a name) and she starts cussing at me and my girlfriend about how irresponsible we are as dog owners and that we should have just kept them and not brought them back there. She ended her rant with a loud " This is f***king BS!" in front of all the customers in there. I will not and don't encourage anyone who is a dog lover to give there pets away or look for pets at this establishment. There is a nice lady in this establishment named Donna miller who cares for the dogs very much if you are possibly considering still going to this place that's who you should speak to. read more

I wish I could give 0 stars Had adopted two dogs here awhile back. Unfortunately due to landlord we were unable to keep them. Upon adoption they were each $200. This was to include shots and micro chip. Neither of them had shots or micro chip and both came home with fleas. We were told by staff that for whatever reason we were unable to keep them to please bring them back. Fast forward and my boyfriend and I go in with one dog. We were cussed out by a woman with short hair saying we're irresponsible and how we're just playing with these dogs emotions. In front of staff and other customers! Are you serious?! Because giving away a furry family member isn't hard enough I don't need some chick telling me how I'm a shitty parent because I cannot afford to move. She hid from my boyfriend after he demanded an apology. Other staff kept lying saying they didn't know who she was. Finally saw her again and she gave a fake apology with a temper tantrum. The only woman here who is amazing is Donna. She understand the situation and was such amazing help. read more
