I had been thinking of changing my style and was actively searching the web, Facebook ads, etc for cowboy boots. I kept seeing boots starting around $400-$500 a pair and that was a non-starter for me. Fortunately, a great friend of mine mentioned Gomez Western Wear in Arlington. They have multiple stores in DFW, but he specifically said all his Hispanic friends recommended buying boots there, due to the low prices. I was in the area, taking an old clock, which my dad had made the wood housing for, to Antique Clock Repair of Arlington (stay tuned for a review of that service, later...) so I decided to stop by Gomez's place. My friend was NOT exaggerating. The first two staff members I met spoke almost no English, but they quickly got an English-speaking salesperson to help me. As I waited for that person to be fetched, I saw TONS of boots, but many were at the price point I was trying to avoid. I told the salesperson about the price range I wanted to remain within and she said, "No problem!" She took me to a raised stage-like area adjacent to the front door, where the less expensive boots were located. I was looking for ostrich, because I've always liked the look, but the only ones in my price range were actually leather, made to look like ostrich. I not the kind of guy who will buy cubic zirconia, so this was not going to be a fit for me. No worries! She showed a pair of beautiful alligator boots to me that were only $169! Then she tried to up-sell me to a bundle deal that included a western belt and cowboy hat. I thought there was no way I was going to make that big a change in my style, but at her bidding I tried on a hat. Damn... I made that look GOOD...(or vice-versa). They only had belts that were too large for my waist size (thank you, I've been working out) but she said they could customize it for my size. No problemo! I was expecting another belt hole and a long belt tail wrapping too far to my side, but NO! She removed the buckle and cut off that end of the belt, shortening it without making me look like I a kid, wearing dad's belt. The belt, hat and boots, including sales tax, ended up being less than many of the boots I had seen online. I am a western wear novice but the salesperson, with whom I dealt, was patient and friendly, helping me make a great selection. How do I know it was great? I posted photos to my social media and both friends and relative strangers complimented how good I looked in the gear. Maybe I've watched too many Yellowstone and Longmire episodes on TV...

My husband found a great pair of boots there and Jacob showed our kids how he shapes and fits hats which was a big treat for them. Lots of college aged kids there and more life experienced staff there makes for a good mix in my opinion. My only complaint is that the fitting rooms (although tended to) need to be renovated (c'mon corporate) and I think the store could benefit from more square footage as it's pretty crowded especially when events are in town. I was the only Black customer present at the time, which made the experience particularly uncomfortable and confusing--especially as this was my first visit while shopping for a gift for my boyfriend. I spent $173 in the store, yet felt ignored, uncomfortable, and belittled by the staff throughout my visit. When I was checking out, the cashier asked whether anyone had assisted me so they could receive credit. I explained that no one had helped me or even acknowledged me. Rather than offering an apology or addressing the concern, the cashier proceeded with the transaction without comment and handed me my receipt--no apology, no closing remark, no acknowledgment. This was one of the worst customer service experiences I have had, particularly as a Black woman spending my money in a retail establishment. The lack of basic courtesy and professionalism left a lasting negative impression. I will not be returning and will be taking my business elsewhere in the future.

The worst location ever! Had to wait 15 minutes after notifying the MANAGER that I needed some…read moreassistance with grabbing a lipstick out of the FBI enclosed cosmetic case. I informed her again (after about 5 minutes had past) that I needed some assistance and she rudely tells me that she will get to me after she's done checking in a customer that had JUST walked up to her counter. I walked 3 aisles over in hopes of meeting an associate to unlock the case so I can grab my lip liner and go on about my way. NOBODY! At this point, I was just being ignored and blatantly disrespected. Walk back over to the customer service desk only to find Mrs. Manager on duty dusting baby formula. I will NEVER shop at ANY Wal-Mart again!

EVERY time I come there are a handful of regular registers open and lines 10plus deep. Don't come here if you are expecting to make it a quick trip or buy anything cold or frozen. This was mart has 20 regular registers and never use more than 4 at a time if that. Why don't they hire more people! Update: 10/26/16 Boy I swear I am hate this store. Place is ridiculous busy as usual, saw register 15 was open because their light was ON. So I waited 11 min in line only to get told she is closed. She said she tried to tell me ( 7 people in front of me with 100 people in line at the registers and I am supposed to hear someone telling me 50 feet away?) and then some other customer piped up in front of me said her light was off. I told her when I put my cart in the line the light was on and she doesn't need to be talking about something she doesn't know anything about. Did she have gps on my cart? How does she know the exact moment I got into line? I am not stupid, nor would I waste my precious time waiting in a line that was going to be closed. If she was truly closing her line when the lines are already 10 deep then she should have walked over and told me in person - 11 minutes ago. I would have argued with her (it isn't the first time at this store) and told her I got in line when her light was on. Truth of he matter is when I put my cart in that line, the light was on. I went to look for a Snapple Apple (cause I love them so much) and came back to my cart. So if no one saw my cart in line when the light is on while I went to look for a drink - how am I prove it? Simple answer: I don't. (I tell the manager on staff and she said she will talk to her, like I believe that.) I spend so much money in wal mart this is really a slap in the face. So the moral of the story is: don't come to this store to begin with because you might have to prove how long you were in line before they kick you out. Update: 12/2/16 If they don't like the reason you asked to talk with a manager they just apologize and say there is nothing I can do. So there are four regular registers open with 15plus people in EACH line. This isn't being exaggerated. I don't understand it, if this is a known issue WHY IS IT STILL HAPPENING????? If you know you are short people, hire more! Give overtime! Oh yeah wait a minute we are talking about Wal mart - they DONT do that! Finally opened up some registers and the guy checks out three people before realizing management stuck him on a register without a drawer for cash paying customers. Now we are talking. I am amazed that this store hasn't been able to change anything in 6 months! Wal mart should be docked a pretty penny for making customers regularly suffer through mismanaged stores like this. Just a well-managed store all the way around. We went on a holiday when sales were going on. I like Kohl's because the values are great, especially during holiday sales. The quality of the merchandise is high, and Kohl's cash is great. Who doesn't love Kohl's cash? It's free money to spend next time. We had some Kohl's cash to spend after last week's shopping trip to 2 different Kohl's. Especially since I know it will be 20-40% off in a few days. Oh well, such is life. I try and think of it as free money to spend, even though I know deep down that I spent a lot to get that Kohl's cash. I had never shopped at this location before. After going to 2 different locations last week looking for dress shirts and ties for hubby, we wanted to seek out a new location. First, I had a really hard time finding the dressing room to try on a few things. They need better signage so you can find it! Then, half of the dressing rooms were closed off! What could prompt a plain room to be "out of order"? It's not like there are plumbing issues. I also recommend that they install more hooks inside the dressing rooms. I like to hang things that I plan to buy on one hook and things I'm not buying on another hook. That's in addition to the initial hook I used when I arrived. That way, it's easy to exit and put the items in the correct place. I've even been to some stores that have fun with it by placing a sign by the hook - "coming home with me", "didn't work", etc. There didn't seem to be as much stock as the other stores I had been to recently. Hubby found a pair of tennis shoes and I found a Croft & Barrow sleeveless top. I usually have to do an alteration to the arm hole openings because they make them so huge. I tried on the top inside out so I could see if I could alter it. I could and I did. I still had to pay on top of the Kohl's cash since the two items were full price.
