I usually don't use the cliche "we couldn't be happier," but we really couldn't be happier with our new paver driveway installed by Falkon. We solicited three bids from companies found on Angie's list. One estimate was really high. A second estimate seemed too good (low) to be true. Based on the Angie's List ratings, I expected Falkon to be about halfway between the two, but the Falkon was almost the same as the "too good to be true" estimate. After researching more and viewing the Falkon website which included past project photos, we selected Falkon for the project. Honestly, at first, I thought Val kind of rushed through the estimate/walkthrough, especially when compared to the experience I had with the other two contractors we spoke with. I'm not saying this to complain. I'm bringing this up to suggest that if you have a similar experience/feeling, don't let that scare you away. Val was always responsive to our needs throughout the decision-making process and the actual project. He never blew us off or made us feel like we were bothering him. Besides, what really counted was the execution of the project and the results. Both were outstanding. Val's crew appeared very experienced. They were punctual and professional. The progress they made each day was phenomenal. We have a pretty large driveway - approximately 1200 square feet with some curving on the borders. Day 1 - Demolished and removed/hauled away old asphalt driveway. Graded soil. Day 2 - Placed underlayments and compacted/graded again Day 3 - Placed all pavers - except for border. Day 4 - Placed bordering pavers and cut inner pavers meeting the border. We requested angled pattern requiring more (and angled) cuts. (By the way, we love the angled paver pattern. Worth the extra effort and cost.) Day 5 - Filled in gaps between pavers. (about half day). Day 6 - Originally planned, but not needed because everything was completed on Day 5. We highly recommend Falkon Construction for any paver project you are considering. read more

I would highly recommend Val for any concrete/masonry project you may have. We expanded our existing concrete driveway and replaced with pavers; we also opted to replace our flagstone walkway/patio and side walkway with pavers for a consistent look. Val's team was very knowledgeable, quick, courteous and clean. I had many questions leading up to and during construction which were always answered by Val and his team. Also had a couple last minute scope changes that Val was very receptive to and provided an updated bid quickly so that construction could move on as planned. Val was able to fit me in within a week after contacting him. He showed up within our agreed time frame, took measurements, and said it normally takes them a week to send a quote. It's been over 2 weeks and we still haven't received an estimate. He seemed very nice & patient when I met him, I just don't appreciate the lack of professionalism to provide the quote when he said he would or even a follow up to let me know whether or not a quote was still on its way. Roots from our neighbor's tree caused cracks in our driveway and also made one section start to lift, so we figured it was time to put in a new driveway. We chose a few places to call based on Yelp reviews. We ended up selecting Falkon not only because their estimate was the lowest, but because Val (the owner) made a good impression on my wife and me. From the initial contact, communication went very well. Val returned phone calls in a timely manner, came out to do the quote, provided us with an estimate, explained the work to be done and answered our questions in a timely and professional manner. We scheduled the work to commence Monday of Thanksgiving week. His crew showed up promptly on Monday morning to demolish the concrete. Tuesday they did the prep work and Wednesday they poured, all according to schedule and in line with the contract. They also put in a root barrier between our house and our neighbor's, to deter future damage. The crew members worked hard and were friendly and nice. It was a pleasure working with Val and his team; my wife and I are very pleased with the results and wouldn't hesitate to use him for future work (although I hope we don't need to have anything done) and recommend him to others. I see there are some negative reviews on the Yelp page but all I can say is everything went well with our job. Val did what he said he was going to do according to the schedule we agreed on. We live in Walnut and contracted with Falkon recently to repave our entire back patio, dog run, and RV parking - 1800 sq ft of concrete. They were not the lowest bid but we had a great impression of Val (the owner) from our initial phone conversation. I had also checked out the business on BBB prior to contacting. I work in professional services (in the consulting industry) and I appreciated finding out that Val came from the corporate world. Throughout the project he was professional, responsive, accountable, flexible, and had great follow-through skills. As for his crew led by Charlie (the foreman), they were always punctual and professional. The guys have been working together for many years and it was noticeable in the way they interacted with each other - they got along well and seemed to have fun working together. I was able to observe this because I work from home. As for the finished project, we are very pleased with the workmanship. The original concrete of our house was poured with an incorrect slope which resulted in rain water that pooled by the back patio door. This was the main reason for repaving - which we had made clear to Val - and we no longer have this issue. In the future, we plan to work on the front yard to put in retaining walls and steps leading to the front door. When we're ready, we will call Val without even getting other bids. We just used Val for two big jobs at our home in zip 90035: one 35 foot masonry wall and another large concrete slab. He was fantastic to work with, responsive, on time, and customer focused. He took care of all permitting with the city and was a joy to work with. It is hard to find wonderful people like this to take pride in their work and truly strive to meet high bars of quality. Description of work Demolition of 6000+ square feet of cracked concrete driveway in an apartment complex of five units in Costa Mesa, CA. Professionally excavate to 12 inches of sub grade. Haul away and dispose of concrete and excess dirt. Lay down geo textile underlay to isolate the clay soil and prevent weed growth. Create 8 inches of compacted misc. base (!) and 1 inch masonry sand overlay. Develop ¼ inch slope per linear foot for proper water drainage. Install custom ordered pavers laid out in an "i" pattern. Extend existing curb by installing 90 feet of raised curb to the end of the property. Review My wife and I operate a property management company that placed this project out to 5 bidders. Falcon bid in the middle of the grouping. It was a fair price and Val (the owner) was very responsive by phone, e-mail and in person, answering all of the many detailed questions we presented promptly. We were undecided about the look of our project, Val took the time out of his busy schedule to help us craft the best result. It took us months to go through a number of revisions to the project and Val was always helpful, provided great input, had a patience of the saint, was never pushy and walked us through the whole project. His communication was excellent, he got ahead of all potential problems and prepared us for the unexpected. Val was always on top of his team. The foreman, Charlie, is outstanding: He is a hard worker, understands his craft and creates great teamwork. The crew is polite and friendly. I was looking for a company to remove an existing concrete pad and pour a new one. Since I only needed a small pad several companies said it was too small of job for them, others simply didn't return my call. I think Val could hear the frustration in my voice and he agreed to do the job. His guys came on a Saturday (perfect, especially since they are already booked to November on Monday through Friday). They removed the old pad, poured the new one, let it "cure," cleaned up and were finished in about 3 1/2 hours. I highly recommend them. read more
