Shorty
Rose C.

It's been a little bit over a month since Dr. Albright came to our home and helped us put our Shorty to sleep. I know she does this all the time, but she showed nothing but empathy for what we were going through. The whole process took 15-20 minutes tops. She never rushed us and always spoke in a soothing tone. She helped Shorty get comfortable and explained everything she was doing. When it was done, she took the utmost care of Shorty and wrapped him up tight in one of his blankets (like swaddling a baby). I realized in my grief, I didn't ask her anything about the cremation, but by the time I contacted her a couple of days afterwards, she had everything squared away and we received his ashes and urn 1-1/2 weeks later on Christmas eve. We've done euthanasia for our dogs at the vet's office and at home. The cost is more than what it would be at the vet's office, but for our family, we prefer that our dogs are in their home, surrounded by family. If you're looking at reviews for at-home euthanasia, I'm sorry for what you're going through. Even as I write this review, I have tears recalling saying our goodbyes to our boy. But know that Dr. Albright will help your pet in their journey to Rainbow Bridge. I highly recommend her services.

Incredibly compassionate and gentle. Faith's bedside manner is unobtrusive, kind, and, of course, gentle.

I was able to let them know ahead of time and they were kind enough to let me know when the coast was clear to bring him in to get weighed and put into a room. My dog was due for some vaccines and he did have to be muzzled as he was not a fan of restraint (which I was able to do myself). They were unbelievably patient and kind with my boy and took breaks in between vaccines. By the end of the visit he had a loose body and was excited to see the vet tech enter the room. It seriously melted my heart (because we all want to see our pets overcome fears and succeed!). This is poor customer service. I will look elsewhere rather than return to a place with such rigidity.

My partner and I are eternally grateful for choosing Sun Valley Pet Hospital for our elderly cat's…read more(Kitty) end of life care. It was a very difficult and vulnerable time for us, and every single worker was patient and compassionate. Prior to his euthanasia appointment, the doctors and vet assistants worked closely with us for weeks and ensured every test and every option was considered to determine a strong diagnosis. During this process, not ONCE did they push euthanasia.. they left it up to us to decide that which is something we appreciated very much. They reassured us that they were able to be reached via email, text and/or call to update them on Kitty's treatment at any time. They were responsive and on top of every little thing. Of course, Kitty was a 16 year old bombay and could not function like a normal cat any longer even with the extensive treatment that was prescribed to us. His health deteriorated rapidly due to his illness (hyperthyroidism) that not even the medicine could treat. We then had to make one of the hardest decisions of our lives to put him down so he can finally live a life of peace. Thank you to the health care team (Dr. Narg, Sheila, Leah, Marissa, and many more) for treating Kitty, my partner and I with so much tender care and I will never forget how comfortable you all made us feeling during this very hard transition. If you are ever considering euthanasia, or even just in need of general care for your furry friend(s), do not hesitate and come here. Again, thank you Sun Valley Pet Hospital for peacefully opening the sky gates for my baby boy.

What used to feel like a place focused on helping animals now feels rushed, impersonal, and centered around pushing medication rather than providing thoughtful, compassionate solutions. Throughout my experience, there seemed to be very little effort to discuss alternative options or genuinely address the root of my dog's issues. Instead, the only solutions presented involved continuously prescribing more medication without much explanation or care for long-term wellbeing. What was even more frustrating was being charged a "service fee" that staff could not clearly explain when asked. If clients are expected to pay additional fees, there should at minimum be transparency and professionalism regarding what those charges are actually for. I understand veterinary medicine is difficult and clinics are busy, but compassion, communication, and honesty should still be basic standards of care. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling unheard, overcharged, and far less confident in the clinic than I once was. Stay away from this place.

I called the office early this morning and was greeted by a very warm receptionist who was eager to help. My dog developed a sudden limp and I was hoping he'd be able to be seen the same day (which I figured was wishful thinking, especially as a new patient). She was able to ask the vet if we could be squeezed in, and Dr. Jimison agreed to see our dog, Chowder. He did a very thorough exam and called me with his findings. He didn't think an x-ray was necessary and suspected a soft tissue injury. To have a vet rely on physical exam findings and not extensive testing was refreshing, and speaks to his competency. We discussed medication options and he tweaked his recommendation to adjust to the medications we already had at home. He even suggested generic options to help save on cost -- how nice! The total charge was so low, I was shocked. I am so very pleased to have my animals be patients here, from start to finish we had a wonderful experience. Thank you Dr. Jimison and staff!

She was emaciated, covered in ticks, and had a bad limp. I brought her immediately to OUR vet. Yes, this was our vet. I carried her in and asked for help. I was coldly told that they couldn't help me. I was so confounded that I literally put my dog in the car and came back inside to make sure I was hearing them right. If I can't count on you in a time of need, why are you a vet? This place has forever lost my business, but I can tell you who earned it, VEG ER on Contra Costa. They took me right in, literally laid on the floor with me removing ticks for a 1.5 hours. We got X-rays and determined that our dog had a broken femur in multiple places. They took blood work and even connected me with a great surgeon (Maverick Veterinary in Concord) for her amputation. In some ways, I'm happy that this happened because it allowed me to find vets with more compassion and professionalism.

Later, I got a younger dog who turned out to be very fear-aggressive toward strangers and has to be completely sedated for exams. The doctors here have been incredibly patient and helpful as we've worked to find the right medication doses and methods for getting her calm enough for visits. After three years, one of the very patient vets asked if we could try the exam without a tranquilizer. I was skeptical but agreed. She and the tech sat on the floor with me in a dark, quiet room for quite a while--and we were successful! I was absolutely stunned. Then today, my older dog was stung in the face, and it started swelling fast (of course, right at noon on a Friday!). They responded to my texted photos within minutes, gave me instructions for over-the-counter medications, and even squeezed us in between appointments for a steroid shot and a quick exam. I know most vets are overbooked and understaffed these days, so I'm extra appreciative when a team goes out of their way to respond to urgent situations--with patience and a smile, too!
