This has been a nice to stay but this hotel is really getting old, just like the washcloths and towels. The television didn't work. The countertop was broken. Don't get me wrong, it's still a decent hotel, but it is starting to run down. And, the taxes are exorbitant. The taxes for a one night stay were over $23. I mean, as I recall, there wasn't much in the town. But the rooms were clean although everything seemed older. I slept well. It was quiet. The restaurant nearby was wonderful. The rooms are just really spread out on one level and that was really different but we enjoyed the room. We enjoyed the place. It's in a pretty good location. I felt and people were nice. read more

There is a serious flaw in the design of the room for handicap access to the bathroom. The bathroom door only opens about halfway. See the picture. You cannot get between the door and the wall with a wheelchair or even a rolling walker. If you close the door, there is very little space between the room entry door and the edge of the bathroom door. See the second picture. You may have to open the entrance door and put the wheelchair partially in the hallway in order to open the bathroom door. You will need assistance to get the bathroom door open. If you are able to get into the bathroom, it is well equipped for a handicapped traveler. read more

This is our favorite hotel when we go back home. Its so easy to call direct to book a room. Staff are always helpful at checking in and the hotel is very clean. We have had to go to other hotels when Fairfield is full and by far this is our number 1. I did not get good pictures because it was late when we checked in. Tried to take a couple. Complimentry breakfast has everything from cold breakfast, healthy, eggs, sausage, bagels, and the best coffee. I will always let you know where the best coffee is. I like that there is always a person working in the dining area to wipe off tables and make sure the food is ready at all times. There is a pool, and you are close to Starved Rock State park. Also shopping and nice restaurants in walking distance or a short drive. I hope this helps you when choosing a hotel but now I will have to make sure I can still get a room when we need one. read more

Fist time staying at Fairfield Inn & Suite at Peru, IL. A nice, medium size hotel. Very clean, a touch modern simplicity. All the personals ( from receptionist to head of maintenance guy, named John ) are very friendly, helpful and caring. They greet each one of the guests and asking if everything ok and anything that they can be assisting. Included full American breakfast. From scrambled egg, toast, bacons, sausage, milk, yogurt, make your own waffles..... It has a salt water indoor swimming pool. Small size with 4ft in depth and temp around 85 F. Great while outside is in the mid 40's. ( we are here in early Nov ). Definitely will stay in here again on the next business trip in this area. PS: On the negative side: It seems the wall or insulation is very thin. I can hear people walking in the hallway. I can hear other guess above me walking around the room. I can hear people closing their rooms door. Thank goodness those are about it. No noises coming from the the bathroom read more

I stayed here for one night coming from a day trip at Starved Rock. The hotel is quiet and clean, although the bathroom had a strange smell to it. Staff was very friendly during check-in. Breakfast is included in the hotel stay - includes hot items such as scrambled eggs, sausage rounds, waffles; and cold items like fruit, yogurt, cereals, breads. The location is close to the highway, and across the street from a Target as well as a shopping mall. Plenty of restaurants close by within driving distance. I recommend Jalapenos which is right beside the hotel - walkover and do takeout or dine in. read more

My wife & I are in our 70's and upon checking in with a senior discount, for 3 nights over the weekend & without asking, the service manager gave us a 3rd floor room where it would be more quiet than the busier 1st floor. The exterior of the Inn was well kept, landscaped nicely, with no litter and plenty of parking. After dark, entrances can only be opened with a room key. He did not charge us for parking as they were in the process of resurfacing part of the lot. The check in went smoothly and all the staff were very accommodating & friendly. The hotel was remodeled at some point and had new insulated windows that could be 'cracked' open for fresh air. The A/C & heater worked properly and the room and bathroom were very clean with no stains anywhere & no lingering smells. Plenty of towels were in the bathroom with more available for the asking & a 'Do not disturb' sign was available. The breakfast had 2 different hot meals to pick from each day [fresh scrambled eggs & pork bacon] + [biscuits and gravy] + [ham, egg, cheese mini sandwich] , as examples. In addition: make your own hot waffles, with multiple fresh toppings; prepared hot steel cut oatmeal with 8+ topping choices; multiple cereals with milk/almond milk/yogurt choices; 2 kinds of fresh fruit & you could linger for hours after breakfast visiting with friends. IHOP & family Mexican restaurant next door; 'Target' store a block away; Hyvee grocery with a full hot deli a 5 minute drive away. It was a great stay. read more

The 4.3 rating of this hotel as of this writing is well-earned. Friendly staff, who appear to be local as they are very knowledgeable about nearby attractions, such as retail stores, restaurants, and state parks, as well as local events. So far, the staff appear to really care about how they do their jobs, which is reassuring. Overall the hotel looks well-kept. The carpets look to be recently redone, in a cheerful blue pattern. We were given a room on the second floor (it is a 3-floor building), and while there are not a lot of guests on a Sunday night, we have not heard any noises like heavy footsteps from the floor above, nor any intrusive voices from either adjacent rooms. We were given a room with double queen beds. The bedding is simple and tasteful--none of the heavy, brocade overlays of the days of yore. The beds and standard feather pillows are comfortable to me, although my husband complained that one bed was sunken on one side. I love the smell of the bedding in particular--almost like bleach in a way, but it's that particular clean, "hotel" scent that I can never manage to replicate at home. The curtains blocked light particularly well. It was lovely to find 4 sets of bath/hand/and face towels, neatly arranged in the bathroom. No need to ask for extras as they are right there already provided for you. There was only 1 floor towel, however, and they were an economical enough size that I wished they provided 2 of them as standard--one for near the tub/toilet and one for in front of the sink. They provide a make-up wipe, 2 soaps, and shampoo and conditioner, but lotion would have been a nice extra. There is an ice bucket and 4 individually wrapped plastic cups in the bathroom also. The hair dryer was very convenient to have. I liked the extra room the curved curtain shower rod provided in the shower. I did rather wish there was a retracting clothesline like you used to always see in hotel showers. And I would have preferred more hooks and rods overall for hanging personal items and for drying multiple towels properly. We brought a cooler, and stored our drinks and ice packs in the mini fridge. I was rather hoping there was a freezer section for the ice packs, but it is strictly only a fridge. I noticed that both trash cans in the room didn't have plastic bag liners. I wondered how much they are cleaned after guests might have previously placed something wet or particularly sticky in them, like used baby wipes or ice cream bar wrappers, for example. No vending machines, but they do have a small "market" where there is a small selection of food and convenience items you pay for at the front desk. There is a free continental breakfast from 6-9am, with both hot and cold options: scrambled eggs, cheese omelette, hard-boiled eggs, Canadian bacon, turkey sausage, make-your-own waffles, oatmeal with toppings, dry cereal with toppings, sliced bread, bagels, muffins, crumble cake, poppy seed carrot cake, and fruit (mandarin oranges and bananas; cut up melons and pineapples). Beverages include apple/orange/cranberry juices, milk in cartons, coffee, and a selection of tea bags. We didn't get to try the pool, but the water seemed clean and smelled chlorinated. It was a small pool as hotel pools go, but for budget hotel standards, it was as expected. Restaurants and retail stores are a mere walk away. Target and the excellent Mexican restaurant, Jalapenos, are closest, as well as IHOP. Overall a quiet and very relaxing stay at this hotel. There really must be something to being part of the Marriott group. There is a good chance we will be returning here on our future trips to Matthiessen and Starved Rock State Parks. read more

A clean, quiet place to rest before and after hiking at Starved Rock. As other reviewers mentioned, the bed linens were clean and smelled fresh. Beds and pillows on the softer side, so if you prefer firm you might want to bring your own. We were delighted with the salt water pool and enjoyed the complimentary breakfast. Perhaps it was because of the holiday, but there weren't any scrambled eggs or waffles mentioned in other reviews. The main breakfast offerings were a variety of Jimmy Dean sausage sandwiches, then the regular assortment of fresh fruit, bagels, cereals, yogurt, etc. Parent tip: if you're sticking around until 12pm checkout, be sure to put a tag on your door handle. We had housekeeping enter our room twice because they "had been told we checked out". Not a big issue, except our baby was napping the second time they came by. Overall, we would recommend this hotel and stay here again! The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. read more

I stayed here for a few months during a work project. I'm a Marriott points hoarder, and this Fairfield was the only Marriott near the area. The rooms were all dated, the breakfast was slim and the front desk never knew where my laundry was! They recently raised the prices to above $100 per night. A little steep for the room quality and area. You're better off going to the brand-new Fairfield Inn in Ottawa, IL. Pro-Tip: Tether your 3G phone to your laptop, because the WiFi here is slower than Dial-Up. read more

Complete non-compliance with mask regulations. Twice caught in the elevator, including once with my four year-old) with multiple people without masks. Multiple times watched people walk directly past front desk crew without masks despite signs on the desk that say "Face Covering is Mandatory." The topper was the housekeeper carrying two arms full of fresh sheets and no mask. I don't live here and this is one of the biggest reasons. Why do you have the right to put my family at risk? If you're not going to enforce the mandate, why but up the signs? read more

My Girlfriend wanted to go here for the weekend so i found this place to be pretty nice through other reviews. We checked and were greeted by courteous employees at the front desk.We received a nice room and it had a decent view. Plenty of room in the bathroom and good hot water pressure. The TV had input jacks so we could plug in our DVD player so we were happy with that.Another thing thats important is wireless internet and it was a strong signal so we were able to use that service. One nice feature of this hotel was the area has shopping centers & restaurants all close by.Its also close to starved rock which is a place we always go for the hiking and great scenery.If your looking for a good place in Peru I recommend this hotel. read more

I just enjoyed the hospitality of this hotel with my family for the last three days. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean, well dressed and comfortable. The breakfast is exceptional. They list it as continental but if is really a full breakfast including, scrambled eggs, sausage, oatmeal, cold cereal, milk: non-fat and regular, hard boiled eggs, bagles, english muffins, crumb cake, coffee, tea, orange juice and more. All included with the price of your room. This hotel is so generous. The pool temperature is quite comfortable, hot tub is hot enough to relax and enjoy and plenty of towels. If there is anything you require, they will do their very best to please you. This kind of service is remarkable. I would give more stars if possible. Another really great stay at Fairfield Inn Peru. Marriott owns this chain of hotels and we are always impressed with the quality when we stay. See my other reviews on this hotel, they were examples of exceptional service and as before the service this time was just as good. I must say also the food has risen beyond just continental. My spouse really loved the sausage patties in the morning, and I was pleasantly surprised to find Special K with berries. That has been my go-to cereal for dieting, and I'm very surprised to find such an expensive cereal available. Also I must say that the staff very accommodating and attentive, when we came inside to check and I commented that it was slippery outside because it was snowing cats and dogs, we dropped our bags in the room and went out for dinner five minutes later and I found the staff spread salt media on the ground to keep us from slipping. The premesis is always spotless, even during the busy Saturday night like when we stayed. All the hot tub was down for repairs, I was very surprised to find the pool water was warm and inviting. This time we did not partake of their small snack shop, but if I had to, I could find things to eat there in a pinch even on a restricted diet. Ultimate destination was Princeton which i think is about 20 miles away, and this means we have to travel back and forth a couple of times, however every time I come back here I'm certain I will be staying at the Fairfield. No other hotel so far compares with the service I get at Fairfield. it is worth noting that the Red Lobster nearby is a better example of the chain, Applebee's near by is a terrible example of their chain, that's my recommendation is to avoid Applebee's. read more

Great hotel, no complaints. It seems they are in the process of renovating the rooms, but I never heard a sound from construction from in our room. The room was clean, beds comfortable, shower hot and strong pressure. Breakfast had a lot of options including waffles you cook yourself. The internet was free and seemed fast enough for our use, which was just to look a couple things up (not to stream videos or anything). Only small complaint is that the pool was always crowded and too small to join the crowds comfortably. At the rate we got on Priceline, I'd certainly stay again. read more

After 12 hours on the road traveling from Denver, CO to Rochester, NY, there is no place that I would rather stay than the Fairfield Inn by Marriott. My mother, grandmother, sister, and I stayed in a room with two queen beds, and the room felt spacious and luxurious at a very affordable price. Not only was the room a comfortable size, but it was spotless. The diligence of the hotel staff shows clearly through the manner in which they keep their rooms, as well as the way that they treat their guests. Everybody that we spoke with was beyond friendly and went above and beyond to ensure that we had a pleasant stay, even if we were only staying for one short night. In the morning, we found a full breakfast buffet waiting for us near the hotel lobby, and it left little to be desired. Everything was cooked well and tasted great. When it came time to get back on the road, I found myself not wanting to leave this hotel. I would highly recommend staying at the Fairfield Inn and Marriott in Peru, Illinois if you find yourself in the area and in need of accommodation. If I could give you ten stars, I would! read more
