Fairfield wise this hotel had a nice sized room. I choose this hotel in the Charleston WV area because it was the highest rated Marriott and second highest rated hotel overall. I wasn't familiar with "South Charleston" as a separate city but it worked out since I had a rental car and it was a short drive to Charleston (where downtown and the Capitol is). Maintenance was lacking with a dripping and mildewy shower but it was clean otherwise. Breakfast was fine. No pool but fitness area was a good size. I liked the patterned window shade and the usb cables by the bed. Lots of parking. Nice staff except the male janitor/maintenance person who openly complained, had a wrapped wrist one day and smoked while working outside. There was a paucity of hotel options in the Charleston West Virginia area. I ended up paying more than I was hoping to for this one. The area that it's in is easily accessible, but quite industrial. The room I got had a functional, but very loud air conditioner which to be fair wasn't all bad because it did block out other noise. read more

We have stayed here twice during September 2025. Great hotel traveling with a dog. The hotel is located in an Industrial type area right off the highway. Very convenient to the highway. Breakfast was standard Marriott breakfast. Staff was excellent. Lisa was awesome. I asked for a room as far away from the highway, she found an awesome room, even though they were booked! Late night booking worked out so wonderfully! They were sold out, refreshed app and boom a cancelation!!! Easy booking on Marriott app. Front desk staff very friendly. Hotel was booked but we found parking easily in front of hotel. The room was immaculately clean.. The bathroom was huge with double sinks and tons of counter space!! I love the separate bedroom, works out perfectly when hubby wants to sleep and I want a glass of wine and an episode of current binge show.. Which is Suits by the way if you've not watched its great!! Bed is so comfortable we slept great!! Breakfast is typical Fairfield but nice it's included and better than some hotels offer. Extremely friendly staff, check in went well for me since I booked directly with the hotel. The woman stated that they treat our pets as their guests as well and the entire lobby is pet friendly (minus the kitchen/breakfast area). The hotel lobby is very modern and clean, and our beds were comfortable and clean. The area is definitely industrial but the streets are clean and safe. The staff assured me of our safety, and the doors to the lobby require your hotel key card after 9pm to assure guest safety as well. She also gave us a helpful flyer that promoted several local restaurants. We chose to eat at the Olive Tree right across the street because the patio was dog friendly! I would recommend this as a great stop for anyone traveling to New River Gorge area. The price was the only thing I would not give 5 stars, as I felt it was very high for a one night stay given the hotel is located out of the downtown area, but I was glad to be a bit removed from the city center. read more

I really wanted to rate this place better- the room was clean, spacious, and the staff was exceedingly helpful. The biggest downer was the freight town that runs next to the hotel- when it comes by it literally shakes the room like an earthquake. I'm not sure how good that is for the long term structural integrity of the hotel. The other downer is that literally everything within walking distance is boarded up by 9PM, so if you come in late for dinner you are in trouble. Special gold star for the hotel manager though for lining up a free shuttle into downtown Charleston for me! read more

I don't normally review hotels, but this place is quite good. Rooms are large and clean, TVs are large and have some neat features, and check in was smooth. Deductions are for the lame breakfast and lack of a bar and restaurant. We would definitely come back if we're in the neighborhood. read more

My husband and I have been staying in this hotel for several years now, whenever we visited the area. We chose this place for two reasons; it is located right off the interstate and the full breakfast buffet served daily. The front desk staff is usually quite courteous and professional. However, ever since COVID, we have watched this hotel gradually go downhill. They never have anyone to turn your room over during your stay (we stay 3+ nights normally); no making of beds, no emptying trash, no providing fresh towels, etc. They are ALWAYS short staffed and are often short with supplies. Our most recent trip was a week ago Nov. 2023 and we were moved 3x, only to finally get upgraded for free to a suite because every room we were sent to was very poorly maintained. The bathroom floors weren't mopped, carpets were not vacuumed, the toilets were dirty, the pullout bed had trash in it and the showers were filthy; highly visible mold and mildew on the shower tracks/doors and the walls of the showers. I HAVE PHOTOS TO PROVE IT. The suite we thought would work because while it still had similar issues, it was not as bad as the other rooms we were presented. We absolutely would have left the hotel all together, but unfortunately we were not left with many options, since there was a major water main break issue in a neighboring town which prevented us from securing other stay options. After experiencing breathing issues in our suite, we discovered there was visible black mold located on the ceiling of the shower. The General manager claimed in person that the only thing she could do was refund us 1 day, without approval from her superior. The next day I called and the same woman manager claimed she refunded us 2 days instead. Well, come to find out nearly a week later, our charges proved that instead of compensating us, the manager over charged us by nearly $400. The refund she claimed she gave us, was not a refund at all; she simply refunded the money she stole from us. (The additional charge she made without our permission and without informing us of her error) This means that we were NEVER compensated for the crap we had to put with dealing with their lack of service and filthy accommodations. We will be reporting this hotel; not just for their lying and fraudulent charges, but for the filth and black mold they allow in their rooms. Nobody should have to put up with this when you are paying your hard earned money for a home away from home. We will never stay here again and will continue to tell everyone we know, never to stay there. read more

Great experience with an amazingly comfortable room! Definitely surprised by this hotel, I was expecting it to be just a basic room but was shocked with a lot of the amenities. The rooms were spacious and clean with a bigger than expected television. The bed was really comfortable, soft with enough firmness to offer good support. The hotel offered breakfast bar with solid meal choices, (bacon, eggs, veggie sausage). Overall, we truly enjoyed our stay the staff was amazing and meeting James a true pleasure! read more

Terrible. Don't think you are visiting with friends and family in the lobby. They will kick you out at 10pm and call the cops on you. No turndown service/ daily cleaning service. Morning meal service staff are rude. No pool. No fun. Go to the Holiday Inn next door. Much friendlier staff. read more

Nice hotel. Clean. Comfy beds. Has fridge, microwave, safe, large tv. Pet friendly. Carpeted rooms. We were in room 221 right next to stairs and house keeping area so it's kind of loud in that corner. The shower shoots out water. There was no conditioner in the bottle. Not really a proper place for dogs to go to the bathroom but there are some grassy spots. Owners weren't good at picking up after their dogs though and we stepped in poop! This is why businesses don't like to allow pets! Makes us all look bad. We picked up some other dog's poops to help someone else not step in it because it's a pain to get off our shoes. I found a stick and was scraping the shoe outside for 20 minutes. Then had to wash it in the tub. Gross. We didn't take advantage of the fitness area or the pool across the street because we can't leave our dog alone. We didn't go to breakfast because we are vegan and there aren't usually plant based options. The front desk person was very nice upon check in. There isn't much to do in this city. I'd call it a ghost town as there aren't many people out and nothing to see here. The hotel area is ugly with nothing nearby except a couple restaurants that don't offer plant based options. We paid too much to stay here but the bed was comfortable. read more

Absolutely wonderful! I have stayed in many Marriott and Fairfield hotels and this one was not a disappointment! I was in Charleston for a few days and actually had to check out of my previous hotel and book this one quickly thereafter. The location is considered to be in South Charleston, WV, and is a quick drive to many restaurants as well as the shopping centers in Charleston. Checking in was quick and seamless with the sweetest lady ever. She kindly asked if we needed any additional accommodations before making it to our room. Was also asked if we were going to want any housekeeping during our stay. The elevators here are seriously the quickest in any hotel I have ever been in. Not once did I have to wait for the elevator in the 4 days I was in and out of the hotel. The room was spotless, spacious, and smelled clean upon walking in. The bathroom had enough toiletries for 4 people which was great for the two of us staying in the room. We called down to the front desk for an extra blanket and in less than a minute a blanket and extra sheets were delivered. Breakfast was included in the nightly rate and was good but pretty basic. Overall the stay was comfortable, easy, and safe! I will definitely try and stay again the next time I'm in Charleston. read more

Upon arrival at the front desk, the ladies were very welcoming and attentive. The location is close to downtown. The room was decent. The pillows were horrible. My neck is still hurting LOL! I was happy that the room had a refrigerator. The breakfast was good. The options included various types of fruit, cereal, bread/bagels/cake, boiled/scrambled eggs, veggie/pork sausage, waffles, yogurt, etc. The breakfast attendants were very kind, professional and timely with stocking the food. Would like to give a 5 star review however, due to the exchange of the manager and a worker that I witnessed, it only gets 2 stars. We stayed overnight from August 5th to 6th, as we were just passing through. Hotel was very clean and the night shift front desk person was very pleasant. Room was also very clean with no complaints there. In the morning when I went down to the kitchen area to get coffee and a little something to eat before we checked out, I witnessed a hotel worker that was expressing his concern over what appeared to be his manager to another co worker in the kitchen with the door wide open. This individual was quite upset and used profanity throughout his conversation, all the while knowing the door was open and there were guests getting breakfast. At one point the manager came over and instead of trying to deescalate the situation, and having that individual go into a private area to complete their conversation, she just further made the situation worse by continuing to argue with this individual in full view of the guests. Recommend this manager gets some training on how to deal with unhappy coworkers, and to not do it in front of hotel guests. read more
