Very clean room overlooking the river. Great service and affordable. A little hidden gem.

As budget-conscious normal folk we, I imagine like many others, scour the web for hours for the very best value short accommodation whenever we are away. Then even as we finally pick one and pay, there's usually that lurking dread that somehow something would go wrong, like saggy mattress, dirty linen, etc. This place delivered on most everything we needed, so I'm giving it five stars despite its shortcomings. Check-in was easy enough, and was a matter of filling out and signing a form, making a payment, and getting a key (an actual metal key!). I'd read that they have a river view on the backside and it's also quieter than the rooms in the front which faces an expressway, and we were stoked to get a room at the back with unobstructed view of the river (once we were out). ++ Clean room, bathroom, and furniture. No problem with hot water. Clean-looking carpeted floor (sticky laminate floor is about the worst!). Parking spaces right outside the room, although our spot was coned off during our visit. -- Extra noisy AC - it was hard to fall back asleep after I came back from a toilet break early in the morning. The location is both a + and a -, because yes, it's literally right next to the expressway, it can be quite tricky to find the right exit even with GPS. We got lost after dinner, and were forced to drive 5-6 miles the in the opposite direction before we were able to take the first exit to turn around. Overall a great stay. This place was great, my girlfriend and I stayed there about a week ago. The price was only 70 $. The room was VERY CLEAN. Cleanliness is probably the most important thing for me. The bed and sheets were nice, good TV, also a great shower head. Would definitely go here again if I'm ever in the area. Also, it's very quite there, another bonus. read more

ZERO stars. I drove 8 hours from dc to WV. I didn't make the reservation however apparently not a pet friendly place. It was almost midnight- he told me No pets... i said i would find a place for him and he then threatened me by saying- "it i see u bring in a dog, I will charge u $100- I have cameras" No signs saying "additional charge....." I told him i wasn't Staying there and at the same time I was talking he Charged my card- KNOWING he wasn't Going to refund me my money. He was rude and unsympathetic to the fact i have ptsd- which i told him the reason my dog was with me- and then made a threat. I WANT MY MONEY BACK FOR NOT EVEN STAYING AT THIS RUN DOWN MOTEL- no where near a HOTEL. DO NOT STAY. Do not Recommend. HOTEL.com should be ashamed. NOT VET FRIENDLY read more

This place for the price is unbeatable near Charleston. It's out just enough from the city yet 10 to 15 mins away. The owners were very friendly. The barn swallows building nests were fun for kids to watch. It's right off the side of the main highway yet was pretty peaceful on the riverside rooms. The Anchor Inn next door has wonderful pizza and stuffed with crab meat portabella mushrooms. The rooms have a refrigerator and are well kept. Great water pressure good selection on the television . I will stay here again definitely. read more

This motel was one of the better motels I have been to. First of all, the price for one night as 55$ Our room was spacious and we had a big comfortable king bed. The bathroom was modern and very clean. The wifi was extremely fast and we had a beautiful view of the river. I would be very likely to go back. read more

This is a budget hotel with budget amenities. I decided to stay here as a mid-point between my drive from Chicago to Richmond, VA. It's a quiet spot that is close to the highway. The rooms are either facing the road or facing the river in the back. I have read that it is louder to have a room in the front, but I had a room facing the river, so I cannot really comment on that, except to say that it was mostly quiet for me. The check-in process was relatively easy, and there was adequate parking, which was helpful. I could park right outside of my room, which I liked. The overall room was large, for the price, and the bathroom was spacious and clean. The television had a range of cable channels, which was nice as well. It's an extremely affordable room - came to around $63 for the night with all taxes and fees. It's relatively close to the city itself; it only took me 15 minutes or so to drive in to get to a coffee shop today. HOWEVER, the reasons for the lost stars include the WiFi, the bed, and the purported coffee in the morning. They boast "free WiFi," but I could not connect to the WiFi at all. I called the front desk to see if the router was down and was told that I needed a code. But I could not connect even with the code; the WiFi wouldn't let me in far enough to even plug a code in. I clicked on it and it just said, "NO INTERNET ACCESS." I tried again in the morning but still no luck. I did have work to do, so it was frustrating that I couldn't get that done. I was also told there would be coffee in the front office in the morning, but there was no upon check-out. Finally, the beds were extremely stiff and not very comfortable. I was fine for one night, but do not think I'd want to have to sleep on that bed for very long. read more

Not handicap friendly!! This was the worst experience I've ever had, my boyfriend and I went to stay at this hotel thinking it was a nice spot to stop and stay, he is in a wheelchair and he could get threw the front door with his chair but couldn't fit in the bathroom. So I called the front office to explain the situation and see about a refund since we had been there literally 2-3 min and was told no, that they don't do refunds. Then I went into the office to explain that we should not be charged for the room when we can't use the room. And we hadn't even taken our bags in the room. For such a large company they should have ADA accessible rooms. This was so disappointing and I will never use them and I will make sure anyone I know never uses them ... regardless of location. Please do not support a company that is not accommodating to the handicap! read more

Pros: - Very affordable. We paid $55 total. - Clean and tidy all around. - Functioning amenities including a fridge, tv, wifi, lamps, etc... - Seems safe enough. - If you get a river side room you get a nice view of the river. Cons: - Remarkably drab and depressing decor. - Remarkably few wall outlets. As in, none other than those used by the alarm clock and television. - Not technically in the city/downtown area, but close enough to drive in a couple minutes (could be a pro). - No continental breakfast. - The beds are sealed in plastic which makes for a whole. lot. of. squeaking. - No coffee maker in the room but coffee is served in the lobby. All in all, the pros vastly outweigh the cons because this is a budget motel and it is very inexpensive and clean. If you're in the area and on a budget, I see no real reason why you wouldn't stay here. read more

Very cheap, with AAA discount $50/night + taxes. Reasonably clean. TV, fridge, window A/C. No microwave. Bathroom renovated fairly recently. Free parking. Supposedly WiFi but we didn't use it. Front desk is unorganized and gave us the wrong room. Refused our request for a late check out (because the room we ended up getting was reserved for that night), and housekeeping came pounding on the door exactly at 11am and insisted on getting the sheets. Overall, for the price, maybe slightly better than average. read more

I had to take a national certification exam in Charleston early on a Saturday. I decided to spend Friday night in town to help alleviate some anxiety. I found this motel online, and based on the images, I was unsure what kind of experience it would provide. However, I was pleasantly surprised! I stayed on the riverside (there is the option of riverside or the side facing the highway), and though it was an additional $5, it was completely worth it. The room was spotlessly clean, and you could tell by the newer carpeting and fresher paint job, that the owners are making a solid effort at providing a quality room. For being close to the highway, it was actually pretty quiet. The bed was fairly comfortable, with a firmer mattress and an abundance of warm sheets. Other amenities included: a sizeable refrigerator, clean and operational microwave, and TV. Compared to several chain motels I have stayed in (Econo Lodge, Red Roof Inn), this locally owned gem is far superior. There are no frills like a pool or continental breakfast, but I was not in need of either during my brief stay. I would certainly book again if I needed to stay for a night or two to attend to some business in the city. read more

This is an older motel that has obviously received loving attention and has been very well updated. The staff here are friendly, helpful, and they keep good watch of what is going on at the property to insure guest convenience and safety. Very clean and comfortable room with a microwave, refrigerator, and free wi-fi. Excellent king bed in the room I stayed in. Well-lit parking. Quiet at night even though the hotel is right on Kanawha Blvd. Rooms in the back overlook the Kanawha River and there are several benches where guests can sit and enjoy the view. If you are a cheap motel person, this is the gold standard. The good: Clean. Safe. Friendly. Next to the river... you can even fish. The bad: half the rooms face the very close highway and it can be a bit noisy. Charleston is not an incredibly expensive hotel market, so the spread is not great. But these owners have worked hard and provide a fine, clean room. For single budget travelers, this is a great place. read more

If you're expecting valet service for $50/night you're in for a rude awakening. But the room was clean, the internet was fast enough to stream live tv from our Dish program on the computer. Yeah it could use a flat screen and stuff seems dated (I haven't seen a motel room with an actual key in ages) but really this is a solid room for a very low price. The bed was comfortable, the pillows were too. The owner at the front desk was really friendly. Fridge and microwave were pretty new. Could use a new heater/AC unit as it took a while to heat up but once it was this was one of the best deals I've gotten in a long time. read more

Alright it is a budget, $50. So I do not expect a lot. They were nice enough at check in and the first thing I noticed walking into the room, it smelled good. So then I see a fridge and a microwave, ok thats good, flat screen tv works ok, then we go out to dinner.(see my review on "Dem Two Brothers amazing") we come back from dinner have to wake up early and hit the road. Decide to take a shower and go to bed, oh wait, what? No water! call the front desk they say OK we will call the water company again and hang up. I am like wtf. So I give it an hour it is now 10pm and I walk up to the office and get...sorry it is not our fault there is a broken main and they are fixing it. Long discussion if I want to leave they will give me half back?Not full? Oh well too late now we stay the night get up in the morning and leave. hand off the key and all she says is thank you goodbye. If it were not for no compensation back and no water (really was not their fault) I would give it three stars. read more

This week I stayed 3 days at this Budget Host Inn. I found it on Travelocity and at a great price of $55.00 - $56.00 a night (with tax $63.00). It was easy to check in and the owners were friendly and helpful i.e. needed an iron and ironing board. I was happy to get a room on the river side of the motel with a parking spot right outside my room. It was enjoyable watching the barn swallows which flew over the parking lot and bank of the river. I appreciated the easy access to the highway and it was close to stores, restaurants and the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center. Traffic was not as bad as I anticipated. My room was clean. I especially appreciated the clean bed sheets, carpet and bathroom. It had two large king size beds, a fridge (nice!) and a microwave. I did not use the WiFi or AC. I would definitely return (and request a room on the side of the river) because of the price, how helpful the owners were and everything that came with the room. read more
