Magnolia Room bathroom closet - with hairdryer & Febreze for our sweaty clothes!
    Shelby K.

TRUE southern hospitality...the owner is originally from Texas so we got along great lol! This is THE best bed and breakfast I've ever stayed in! Ms. Cheryl was the perfect hostess - always making sure we had what we needed, extremely accommodating and wow, she can cook! I stayed here with my parents as a stop on a road trip and we had the Fairfax Suite and the Magnolia Room - those rooms are actually adjoining if you like! Both rooms are beautiful and spacious upstairs rooms. The Magnolia Room has a bathroom with a regular stand-up shower in it and the Fairfax Suite bathroom has a jacuzzi tub with a handheld shower option. So, if you're wanting to stay in the Fairfax Suite (which is AMAZING) but really like to stand up when you shower (don't we all?), just ask Ms. Cheryl when you book if anyone is staying in the adjoining room and then you can use the other bathroom for showering if you like. She will be more than happy to accommodate you. See the photos on here to get a better idea of the layout of the rooms/bathrooms. When we arrived, we brought a bottle of Crown Royal with us to enjoy on the balcony and Ms. Cheryl brought us plenty of ice and Diet Coke to enjoy with it. The view off the balcony and the porch swing made me feel like a rich southern belle! We all slept like rocks. The beds were SO comfy and there were plenty of pillows. Louisiana is HOT and humid but the air conditioning inside this house is rockin. We were sooo comfortable all night long. I never sleep like that in hotels! Ms. Cheryl started cooking breakfast for us around 11 am (per our request to sleep in!), which was so nice because sometimes, at B&B's, you either get up at 7am or you miss breakfast - not here! She was more than happy to accommodate our morning laziness! Coffee was ready in the dining room immediately when we went downstairs - strong and smooth with all the fixings you could want! Breakfast was SO delicious. Orange juice and fresh fruit were on the table already when we went downstairs. Fluffy scrambled eggs with potatoes, bacon, fresh and hot croissants, and little carrot cake cookie sandwiches (I might've stolen a few bites of my mom's because they were SO good!). We felt so spoiled staying here. Cannot wait to come back and stay again!

Wow so not really my usual cup of tea to stay at a B&B but saw a deal on Livingsocial and wanted to treat my wife. To my surprise I loved it. Fairfax is run by the wonderful Cheryl who will make you feel like it is your house. There were only us and 1 other couple so most of the time we had the place to ourselves. At night after a trip to the very nearby Cypress Bayou casino we would come back to a quite house. The front porch is lovely but at night in summer there are plenty of mosquito's. No problem for us as there is a huge screened in back porch with tables and chairs and ceiling fans. We would sit back there together enjoying a drink and the solitude. It was very romantic and soothing. Then we would retire to our beautiful room with the comfy bed. In the morning I took advantage of the large tub/shower which had plenty of hot water and good pressure. I took way too many showers here lol. There is a fresh made breakfast in the morning at what ever time you want. The other couple had theirs at 6 am one morning and then we had ours at 9am. So sleep as late as you want! The grounds are very nice and large and often I am told they hold weddings there. Franklin the town pretty much closes down at night so be prepared for solitude and eat early. Romance, scenic, relaxing, awesome shower, great breakfast awesome Cheryl, good value, and a casino just 10 minutes away. We plan on going back on a regular basis and you should too.

We jug fished for our breakfast, lunch and dinner. We were very successful. We caught 2 alligator gars (one being 6' long 100#s) 1 Needle gars, 12+ catfish, 24+ crabs. It was opening weekend of squirrel season, so our guide provided some for dinner. We frogged for hours and caught 20+ by hand. It was epic. We are sitting in a restaurant FRESH off the boat / Bayou, we are already planning our return!!!!

As it turns out, we were in for a wonderful experience! Our hosts, Stafford and his wife Belinda, were excellent. We felt so welcome and had a great time experiencing the swamp. We stayed in one apartment-like houseboat, with two bedrooms with bunk beds (queen on bottom, full in the middle, twin on top), one bathroom, and a spacious combined living/dining area. Our hosts stayed in a separate "apartment." The two were connected by a screened in porch, where we spent most of our time when we weren't out on the swamp. I don't think I even sat down once on the couch in our apartment. We drank coffee outside in the morning, meals were cooked out there, and we all enjoyed drinks out there in the evening. The highlights of our stay were the times we spent out on the swamp. We went out looking for frogs, checking crawfish traps, and just cruising around. The water was high when we were there, so there was a lot to see! We saw many alligators, lots of frogs, bald eagles, nutria rats, and more. If you're into wildlife or birds, this is a great place to be. The swamp was a social place when we were there, so friends and family stopped by, and everyone we met was friendly and interesting. We had a lot of questions and everyone patiently answered them! It was fascinating to learn about how people live on and near the swamp. Our hosts had coffee ready every morning when we woke up, provided bottled water and ice, and cooked breakfast and dinner for us. We had eggs, bacon and beignets (donuts) for breakfast, catfish boil, wild boar and rice, fried crawfish, catfish, frog legs and gar balls, "pasta-laya" (aka jambalaya pasta), and cajun white beans. Everything was great and we ate way, way, too much, but had no regrets! As a bonus, they let us take the leftovers with us. :) I imagine if you're considering staying here, you're feeling adventurous, so I recommend taking advantage of all that's offered - see the swamp, enjoy the delicious cajun meals, and get to know the hosts. It's totally worth it! Our only regret is we didn't plan to spend more of our vacation with Cajun Experiences.

We were met a few mins after we arrived by Miss Donna she was very friendly and we quickly felt right at home. She showed us around the common areas explained door codes made us feel like we were family. We met Casey and he brought to our attention all the new art work that was acquired for the common rooms, as well as some more history of the house and the fact that soon there will be a small scale model of the house before it was remodeled hand crafted from memory i spired by a 96 year old man that grew up in the house but lives close by. We chose the Fais Do Do suit little private walk way off the courtyard but we look forward to staying in the main house next time. The house was built in 1890 and I have to say I was never hot anywhere in the house or our suit. Louisiana is hot and humid lol The courtyard is beautiful a very nice gentleman was outside hanging lights above the courtyard I can't imagine them not being there they look amazing. Be sure and check for books in the Parlor for info about the B&B history. Our suit had a mini fridge, Keurig, very nice king size towels lots of pillows and lots of plugs, Free WiFi, comfortable bed very spacious rooms, cable tv, beverages and ice are in the guest fridge in the main house. We had breakfast in the sun room at 8:30 delicious eggs, bacon, and biscuits with OJ and Coffee but breakfast changes daily. We will definitely be returning and look forward to staying in each of the rooms. The staff make this place extra special!! And the science museum is right down the road couple miles.

I hate writing about my fave places, especially the ones off the beaten track. More people find out…read morehow incredible they are & then they become too busy! LOL This is one of my fave places to stay in Louisiana. I grew up in the area & when I want to go home, this is where I want to go kick back. This area is very very special, there is tons of great food, antique stores & historic places you can visit & the coolest place to stay is here. If you are staying for a while, rent the whole cottage. It's beautiful. If your just staying for a few days, stay in the barn. The upstairs is perfect for 2 & it has a Jacuzzi tub. The views of the lake are breathtaking from the front balcony. I LOVE that there is a separate "party barn/cook shack" here that you can cook & hang out outside & take it all in. It's not a shack by any means, it's a very cool set up, a chefs dream outdoor kitchen. Stuff that Louisiana girls LOVE. It's 100 % Louisiana style ;) There are at least 10-12 old oaks draped in moss on the property that are over 200 years old that are registered with the State. Just like a picture perfect dream, flowering shrubs that perfume the air, puppies that greet you on arrival, children playing the the background.. This place is nothing short of stunning, and truly feels like a little piece of heaven. The decorations were rustic and perfectly matched what you'd expect in a simple country home. We stayed in the barn loft, and I was pleasantly surprised when the AC was more than able to keep up with the summer heat in southern Louisiana. The breakfast was simple but good, and much better than any you'll find in a hotel. The pond was beautiful and peaceful, and there were no noises except the sounds of nature (mostly cicadas chirping). I cannot recommend this place enough, and we will most definitely be coming back for future visits.
