Thorp is the quintessential small town (pop. 1621). The Heritage Court is the sort of…read morejust-off-the-highway motel you were amazingly lucky to happen upon in the days before Motel 6 and Super 8. The family who run the place are friendly and eager to make your stay a pleasant one. This is one reason I give four stars for a property which otherwise would rate three. The rooms have cable TV (basic: CNN and TBS, but no premium channels), and a ceiling fan. There is central heat, but no air-conditioning that I could see. My bathroom had a shower stall but no tub. Towels about like Motel 6, except in addition to the normal white ones, I found a burgundy colored washcloth and face towel. A sign in the bathroom read: "Burgundy Towels for -Cosmetic removal -Extra soil. Thank you." Standard motel soaps; no shampoo. My room was small, with a double bed and a twin daybed. I had enough room, and a couple would do OK. I can't quite see it working for three unless they take turns stepping out or relaxing in bed while others move about. My room was not wheelchair accessible: this is an older property (likely pre-ADA grandfathered). On balance, I felt that the price I paid was a good value for what I got. The essentials covered, here is what wins the fourth star: As I said, the innkeepers are friendly and welcoming. They've taken some time and thought to create a cheerful décor that goes a long way toward making a small room feel cozy rather than cramped. They'll give you good advice on where to eat and where to find things. The office is in a beautiful historic 1891 Victorian house (the rest of which is the family's home). While many roadside inns provide chintzy please-give-us-free-advertising postcards, in my room at the Heritage Court I found postcards with beautiful pen-and-ink renderings of the motel and the historic house. Classy. If you need basic, reasonably-priced accommodation that is a bit friendlier and has more personality than a national chain, the Heritage Court Motel of Thorp is the place to stay.

The room was very clean (a little out of date), very PINK but had a mini fridge and microwave. I picked an apple from the apple tree and gave it to a passing Amish families horse!! So cute.

It is more like coming to a second home than a hotel. The rooms are clean, spacious, and comfy. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. We are a very large group. Some of us have disabilities that require special assistance, adaptive rooms, service animals, and caretakers. Some of us travel with aides or professional assistants/managers. This hotel handles it all with professionalism and calm. We use banquet spaces, meeting rooms, suites, hospitality spaces, and the restaurant. We take up most of the parking and if the pool or sauna are available, we are in my heaven! A few of us even use the workout room or hang out at the bar! This hotel keeps us coming back because they treat us well; they feed us well; they serve us amazing hospitality; and the fees are a great value! If you're in Marshfield, don't overlook this inconspicuous gem of a hotel! It's a part of the Best Western Group. These people put the "best" in hotel service industry! Thank you to you all for a job well done!

Our State Lions are moving their Counsel of Governors meeting here every couple of months. Our room was very nice with soft toilet paper and tissues and thick towels. The bed was comfortable including the pillows and comforter. Our room was a king suite with a couch and good size tv. One of our parties had a suite big enough to be considered a condo. We all ( about 30) had a pasta buffet for dinner on the Friday night we were there. It was $20 each and included a fettuccine, cheese ravioli with a Mariana sauce and a Alfredo sauce, strips of chicken and shrimp. Salad and bread sticks. I opted out on the bread sticks but sadly our while table of 8 did not get any shrimp as it was all gone. The salad was almost all gone and some at our table did not get salad. About half the table did not get bread sticks. I didn't want any but others did. There was plenty of chicken strips. The food was tasty. They have a continental breakfast and because they have the restaurant right there the food is a step above the usual hotel, I think. My husband brought back to the room my breakfast scrambled eggs and oatmeal and a banana. The eggs were fluffy and tasty. Because I did not go,out to the breakfast buffet I did not see what all was offered. My husband said they had ham for the meat but it looked like fake ham. I can only guess what that meant but will check it out my next few visits. Our meeting room was spacious and comfortable. We had a buffet lunch after our meeting that had salads and dinner rolls at our table along with a variety of desserts to choose from-8 to a table. At the buffet line they had servers. Probably had something to do with the running out of shrimp at dinner, we were served beef tips and chicken fillets, roasted potato wedges and vegetables. Once again we were happy with the food. They have self check in and out but I did not get my bill in my email so will have to call them as the receipt is needed to get reimbursed.

The Quality Inn: A Case Study in Thermodynamic Failure…read more * The Atmospheric Conditions: The pool area isn't just a leisure space; it's a self-contained weather system where the ventilation has been "optimized" for profit, resulting in indoor glaciers that would make a National Geographic photographer weep. The poor air circulation in addition to saving money, is no doubt generating revenue for pharmaceutical companies treating all of the mold allergies. * The Biological Indicators: That signature "clean pool" smell is actually the olfactory evidence of a thousand local toddlers using the facility as a public latrine--a chemical reaction of chloramines that serves as a warning to anyone with an intact immune system. At $7 a local kid for a whizpool, it's surely a profit center, and you can certainly smell the difference. * The Culinary Experience: Breakfast consists of "food-like substances," specifically chunks of microwaved egg that appear to be weeping for their own existence and pork sausages swimming in a reservoir of grease and existential dread. * The Lobby Ambience: The computer station is guarded by a territorial child-in-residence who has seemingly aged into the upholstery over the last two years, ensuring that "tacky" remains the primary aesthetic. * The "Coffee": A beverage so weak and feeble it qualifies as a crime against humanity. It isn't brewed coffee in the way that we've all come to expect; it's a hot, wet insult served in a cup, located--fittingly--in a completely different room to distance itself from the concept of actual food. If you ever find someone whose teeth are on fire, and you are fresh out of urine, this coffee is a great substitute...

We brought our older kids plus our little kids and dogs, and were in town for a large sporting event, so we had lots of gear, etc. Pros: The biggest pro: Customer service is 10/10, with hands-on ownership! We had some special circumstances and definitely troubled them with questions and needs, and they were amazingly accommodating. It also snowed overnight and the snow was cleared in a reasonable amount of time. - Pet friendly - Affordable - The heater worked very well. We are still acclimating to Wisconsin winter weather, and I was so glad when the room wasn't drafty despite sleeping next to the window. - Good proximity to everything you need. Only minutes from Walmart and seconds from several other places. Cons: - The building is on the older side, so if you have asthma or respiratory issues I do not recommend you stay here. However, nothing was broken, all the fixtures worked fine and we all had hot water. - The rooms are on the smaller side, but it was perfectly sufficient for our needs and it's a cozy place. Overall I would stay here again for the convenience and accommodating customer service, and for being family & pet friendly!

I was told there was coffee in the morning and it was good but nothing else was offered for breakfast. The TV was so small and far away I could barely watch it. All in all not bad but not great. In a pinch I would stay again. Great staff is wonderful but rooms keep people coming back.
