Went there for the first time today and received the Refreshing Facial. I used to go to Urban Beauty because it was a really good deal, but after finding out that extractions can be done w/out so much pain, I decided to shop around. Up until now, I thought it was normal for extractions to be unbearable pain, but I would do them because my pores would get cleaned. Since I'm on a budget, I chose Facial Plus because 1. it's in my neighborhood 2. it's also a really good deal of $55 for 60 min! 3. because Alice had a bunch of reviews saying that her extractions don't hurt Sometimes when I go to those asian-run salons, I feel like I'm being lectured, or they say things to make my self-esteem get lowered so I'd agree to add on more services. At Facial Plus, the staff there was really nice and polite, and not pushy like many asian-run places. They also mostly use Shiseido products there for their facials. Alice was nice and warm, and true to the reviews, she gave a good amount of massage, and her extraction hardly hurt. YAAAAAAY! read more

I've been coming here since 2007 and has been loving this place since day one. I've tried so many places and by far Facial plus is the best. My pores are bigger around my t-zone, so I prefer my esthetician to focus more around that area. Yes, the extractions hurt a lot, but I never left with a tomato face like many other places. They also use a lot of well known skincare products such as Shisedo and Cle de peau ( can only find at high end department stores and boutiques). Their 90 min facial left me in awe as always. Plus I never have to worry about feeding the meter because the girls at the store helps me while I'm in the treatment room. I always feel so relax after walking out of this place, so thank you Facial Plus for giving me my glowing skin. Yes this is definitely a diamond in the rough! As good as it gets, maybe even better. But honestly, I don't care what anyone says but extractions are freaking brutal but well worth the pain! You know what they say..."No pain, No gain!" Today was my 2nd time going to this place and I have learned how important it is to come back consistently! The first time I had the regular facial and that went well but this time-today actually-I got the Acne facial because of the breakouts I have been having. I must say...Sandy was great! She spent time on my extractions making sure she got every single one of them. Holy, yes it was the most uncomfortable, painful experience--worse than the first time--EVER! After it was over I could finally breathe and relax. She put on a masque that made my face feel minty and tingly but it was super cold but it was fine with me! When it was completely over....wow my face looked super clean and I just felt refreshed! I don't mind spending $70 as it was completely worth my money!! P.S. It's getting harder and harder to book an appointment with Ruby. I could be a cold-hearted, selfish bitch and say that this place was terrible and that Ruby was the worst! Nah, I love this place so and Ruby is a gem. I go here every month and since than, my skin has greatly improved...thanks to Ruby. She's sweet and she never forgets a face. I've been going to Alice every 3-6 weeks for several months now. I'm about to finish up my second $300 package! I don't usually spend this much money on pampering. I definitely think it's worth it. I've had acne problems for the last 10 years, and I've gone to the dermatologist, ordered the stuff from infomercials, did whatever the magazines tell me to do...lots of stuff. The only thing that really worked for me was antibiotics...until I started going to Alice! The acne cleared up after 2-3 treatments. I brought my mom here and she loved it, too. It's 11:00am and my alarm is ringing on my day off...I'm like WTFFFF! I took one look at my blinking BB and I remembered my facial appointment at 11:15. Shit SHIT S H I T! I hauled ass and got there 15 minutes late. On the plus side, I got front door parking :) Right when I arrived, I was greeted warmly by the two women holding down the fort. I was asked to fill out a questionnaire and immediately I was directed to the facial room. Let me just say this...it was intense! I was tired from the lack of sleep and hungover to say the least with nothing in my belly but 2 gulps of water. I was dyingggg let me tell ya. I was expecting a relaxing facial - so relaxing that I would be able to catch some ZZZ's - but BOY, was I wrong. She went at my face almost immediately. It started off nice and sweet. She started smoothing on some creams and lotions or whatnot on my face as I was just starting to relax. I almost fell asleep when she started massaging my neck and then, THE NEEDLE CAME OUT. What needle you may ask? The needle for the extractions! I have never, ever had a needle so close to my face before and I was freaked the F out. I didn't get to see the needle but I sure felt that little prick. She probably spent 20 minutes poking and squeezing and they were the longest 20 minutes of my life. As she was going about her business, she was also giving me helpful tips on what to do to keep my skin looking beautiful and youthful. UPDATE: 06/13/08 Coming to Alice is seriously as good as it gets. I came in for another facial (after not coming for a while) and this time she even plucked and threaded my eyebrows for me! I felt very relaxed and rested after my facial, and I highly recommend this place if you want to get pampered :) I get a facial here every month, and I love Alice! Alice is so motherly and she really cares about the people she does her facials for! She always calls to remind you the day before your appointment. She's so sweet and extracts every little thing from my pores. After every facial I feel pampered and relaxed and my face is glowing. I am reluctant to write about this place for fear that it will become too crowded and I can't get in! Facial Plus is the best place in the City to get a facial with the best prices. I have had a history of terrible skin, having gone through 2 rounds of Accutane for cystic acne. I have been coming here monthly since 2000, with an exception of an 18 month stint in Scottsdale, AZ. Stephanie has cured me of my acne and I always get compliments on my skin. It is great to be able to come in on a Sunday with my busy work schedule. I always get an alpha hydroxy facial, which lasts 90 minutes. A reviewer was worried about the products being used during the facial. For the alpha hydroxy facial, they use the Murad professional line. The facial starts with a steam, followed by a meticulous extraction of all the sebum pockets on my face and decolletage. A tingling layer of AHA is applied. The more often you go, the higher the AHA percentage is used. This is followed by a electrical wand to rid my face of bacteria. A cooling mask is then applied for 10-15 minutes, during which I usually fall asleep. Depending on how hairy I am that month, she works in a brow shape and threads my upper lip/face. I always leave with my skin feeling refreshed and toned. However, the results are especially evident about 3 to 4 days after the facial. My skin positively glows. Since coming to Facial Plus, I have ceased using pressed powder on a daily basis. My skin looks so good that I get compliments and wonderment from friends who cannot believe I am not wearing any powder or foundation. I really missed this place when I was in Scottsdale, the resort/plastic surgery capital of the U.S. I tried and tried and could not find the value and service that I got at Facial Plus. I was so relieved moving back to the Sunset so that I could put my skin back in their hands. read more

The greatest facials for the best price. For about $60, you get a 90 min. treatment. You can also get a package of 6 for $300 which i believe saves you another additional $10. One of the reasons why i love coming to this place is because they spend a lot of time actually cleaning every single one of your pores. I am very happy with the facials here. I purchased the "5 pack" for $300. They encouraged me to try the salon (same name) on Noriega Street which I did once but will not go back there. The facial/service/attitude was lousey once they figured out that I was on the "5 pack" program. The whole "Irving Street" experience is/was much more positive. Ruby is an excellent facialist and very nice person. The facial was great. I did not get the "product push" as other reviewers have mentioned. I, too, usually come out of a facial with a beet-red face. Not the case here. The facial massage was incredible. The owner, Stephanie, is nice too. Street parking can be a challenge so leave plenty of time for parking. You can kill time in the Walgreen's across the street. This is a nice salon and a very good deal. read more

Friend recommended this place. First facial was done by Ruby and she was wonderful. Got my facial done in the upstairs room and it was super relaxing and quite. The second one was done in one of the rooms downstairs and it was pretty noisy and you can hear the people talking next door. If you're looking for a place to do your routine facials, this is def the place! This is a very typical HK style facial. Downside is the street parking. I think every other asian/chinese girl in SF I know goes here! on the recommendation of a coworker, i decided to try this place. Getting an appt was easy with two locations and many facialist so got an appt right away on a busy weekend. The first time I had "Amy"...a chinese girl named Amy???!! Wow, so surprised! Anyhow, the place is nice. they sell shesido in the front along with some high end skincare products from france and never try to force sell you on their products. The facial was nice. a full hour, steaming, extractions, massage, face neck and back. I love how they also massage your hands with thick hand creme and stick them in plastic gloves then these heated mitts during your facial. nice touch! Finished off with masque, with nice spa like music in the back. They do analyze your skin type when you go and use products and treatment based on that. I am a oily surface inside dry combo/sensitive skin. Lucky me!! It was so good I bought a package for $300 for 6 sessions. or was it 5 sessions? i forgot. I have been coming here for almost 5 years. On the very first visit, Kiki was my aesthetician. I have requested her ever since. She is meticulous in cleaning out every pore and blemish. It's painful, but if that's what it takes, then that's what it takes! Once she learned about my skin, especially during the first few visits, she'd talk me through how to take care of different areas daily / weekly. You just get the sense that you are being well taken care of. Some reviewers have said "they didn't do this part" or "I didn't get that step." But in my experience, if they take extra time to work on one problem area, they obviously can't extend the appointment just to complete everything for you. I have never felt like they were rushing or skimping on the services. Kiki is very honest, detailed, knowledgeable, and generous with healthy skin care advice. The other ladies in the shop are also very pleasant. I tend to ask a lot of questions, and they are always happy to explain what they're doing and why. They have never pushed me on products. I was going to spend Christmas with my Boyfriend's family for the 1st time so I wanted to not look like the over worked, sleep deprived mess that I usually am. After reading many Yelp reviews, I decided to give this place a try. Even though they were heavily booked, they were able to squeeze me in for a same day appointment. This was my first time getting a professional facial so I have no basis for comparison; but what I experienced was really great. The staff was very nice & the rooms were clean albeit small. Since it was my first facial, May explained all the steps ahead of time & made sure I was doing OK throughout the 90-minute session. I thought there was going to be a lot of down time when things needed to sit or dry that I'd be left alone but I was wrong. Whenever there was a process that took time, May gave me a shoulder massage or put moisturizing "gloves" on my hands. In the 1.5 hours, I was left completely along for only 15 minutes. I also got my eye brows & upper lips threaded since it was included if I were to buy a package (I did @ the end). Otherwise, it's $15 with a single facial or $30 by itself. I was slightly worried @ the end that the shop would try to push products on me but they didn't even really try to. May gave me a bunch of samples of the stuff she used on me & just asked me to give them a try. I left feeling refreshed & relaxed & ready for the holidays madness to begin. I've been a loyal customer to Facial Plus since 2003. All I have to say is the quality of services is always always consistent, the staffs are very friendly and personable. I've had bad break outs on my back, but after a series of back treatments, my back has been behaving since then! Thanks to Alice! She's awesome! She knows my skin so well that I can totally relax, fall asleep sometimes, and trust her to take good care of my face. I also like Ki-Ki a lot. She's very gentle, delicate, and thorough on each step. The main reasons I enjoy Facial Plus is the cleanliness and level of hygiene, the very personable staff and the variety of high quality products. They are also very affordable and take pride in their work. I had an unfortunate break-out after one facial and they were really wonderful about having me back for a complimentary soothing treatment. Parking can be difficult, so leave time for that. If you give them the location of your car, they will go and feed the meter for you which is a great plus for the 90 minute facials. I would definitely recommend this place for the commoner like me, but if you are looking for a shi-shi salon that is very calming, quiet and upscale, this may not be the place for you. read more

I would give 0 star if I could. Package has to be used within a year. It expires a year after purchase. You can still use it within half a yr after it expires, but need to pay for the difference between regular price and the price you paid. For whatever reason after half a year, it can't be used. I was pregnant around 6 months after I purchased the package. I didn't finish the package before it expired due to many pregnancy reasons. Now I came back and asked if I could finish the package and I said I am willing to pay for the difference but the owner said no because it expired too long ago. read more

I hit a jackpot at Facial Plus after endless tiresome search of a spa that takes extraction (read: zit-popping) seriously. I have an excessive amount of nerve endings hence a very low pain threshold, but when it comes to getting rid of excess sebum in my pores, I don't appreciate a half-a$$ed extraction that lasts only 5 minutes and comprises of mild squeezing motion. At Facial Plus - the beauticians were ruthless. I like it. My beautician, Sandy was going at it for at least 30 minutes, happily showing the fruit of her labor once in a while, thereby giving me comfort that she is actually doing exactly what I paid her to do. And for $55 instead of $90+ at the likes of Burke Williams (where you'd feel pampered but would still come out pimple-faced), I would give this place 6 stars if I could. read more

I have been to both facial plus locations but the one on Irving is definitely the better of the two. I have my own go to person for facials but with her I need to book way in advance and that isnt always an option. With facial plus I always get a same day appt. when I call. $70 for a 90 minute facial is a bargain. They use really nice products, Cleu de peau and Shiseido. The thing I appreciate the most is that they are really thorough with extractions. I feel like they extract every pore which isnt the most pleasant experience, but bearable. Especially when the neck and shoulder massages they give you are so nice. Not a fufu spa experience at all but they do know how to get the job done. And they fed my meter. read more

Story time: my mom has been getting facials for the past 20 or so years from the same company (but the one she goes to is located in Chinatown).My mom barely has a wrinkle and she's past 50. She told me that I have to start taking better care of my skin so she bought me a facial package for my birthday! Review time: I've been here once a month for the past 3 months and its been great. I come in, get brought up to a room right away, change, and lay down. Crystal cleans up my skin, puts on product, does the extractions, zaps away the bacteria, and lets me nap for 20 or so minutes with a mask on and during the down times, she give me a neck, shoulder, and hand massage and she also leaves a super moisturizing cream on my hands and covers it with a plastic glove so it deeply moisturizes while I am getting my facial. And afterwards she cleans up my skin, puts on lotion and sunblock and leaves me to change in peace. Afterwards I go down and book the next appointment with Crystal and am left feeling clean and well rested. I definitely plan on coming back every month so I can look young forever. :P read more

3.5 Stars! I guess it was okay. I didn't love it, nor did I hate it. One major + is that Sandy was able to remove white "stys" around my upper cheek/eye area. My previous facial ladys were unable to do so, probably because of the breaking of the skin and minor scarring I had a few days after the facial. Sandy spent a lot of time on digging those little suckers out. They have been there for YEARS! My skin doesn't appear to be glowing like it did with a previous ethesthians facial. I gave this place a try since it is only 2 blocks from work. I see myself coming back if I need another round of powerful extractions, but I will go back to my other ethesthian for my "upkeep's" of nice, glowing skin. read more

Facial Plus is a must for anyone with clogged pores! I have been seeing Crystal for six months now and my skin has never looked so clear. As other reviewers have mentioned, the extractions do hurt, but that is the real reason I come here: I mean, I can slap on my own mud masque and don't need to pay $70 for that. Crystal did try to get me interested in the Shiseido products, but she did not give me a hard sell and understood not to push it once I made it clear that I was not interested in their products. The massage part of the 90 minute facial (perhaps 30 minutes' worth) is delightful and makes the extractions experience much more enjoyable. I recommend this place! read more

After checking out Yelp for facials in the Sunset area, I decided to check out Facial Plus. I made an appointment for 5:45pm and decided on the European facial for $70. From start to finish, everything was fantastic. I had so many blackheads and she went to town on them spending over 15 minutes clearing them out. Once after, a variety of masks and lotions were applied to my face leaving it shiny and hydrated. They sell Shiseido products and will happily give you some samples. my friend recommended this place to me and after 90 minutes with ruby i left extremely satisfied and eager to come back for my next appt. i dont get facials very often so i dont have much to compare with but my experience was wonderful. ruby made sure to explain exactly what she was doing each step of the way and the neck and shoulder massage was a nice bonus while you are getting your face steamed. i have really sensitive skin but my eczema was not irritated at all. i even got my eyebrows done here and if you do it at the same time as your facial it only costs $8 and she did a very thorough job. on top of this, i made a comment on how great some of the products smelled and found myself with a bunch of different face wash/lotion samples to take home with me with no salesperson pushing any of the products. at $55 one would be hard pressed to find a better deal anywhere. my only complaint i have is that its a busy intersection so i would leave extra time for parking. read more

Five years ago while strolling down Irving Street I came across Facial Plus and decided to give it try. First off I should tell you I am facial junky. I love facials! I have been to expensive facials, mid priced facials and low priced facials and Facial Plus by far is the best! From the start of my 90 mins session at Facial Plus I am in heaven. The shoulder massage to the facial massage in the end is so relaxing, I always find myself falling asleep. I used to use Sunny for the longest time, but since she moved to Facial Plus on Noriega, I now use Ruby. Both are fantastic- you just can't go wrong with either of them.. Also you can also go back in when you have a pimple that won't go away, but you don't have time for a full facial -they will clean it up for free. I will admit, the decor is not the best; no aroma filled rooms or nicely painted and decored wall, but that is not why I go there. I go there for a facial that is fantastic that keeps my skin fresh and full of live . I would recommend the paying upfront for a 5 or 10 pack facials. I have been here 2 times now. It's not comparable to facials you can get in Taiwan but it's far better than other facial joints on the Peninsula. Beauticians who work there are nice and punctual. Price-wise, $300 gets me 5 facials which sounds like a lot to me at first - it turns out facials these days are easily $100+ or more not including tips. Not to mention, buying a package also includes free threading/waxing (your choice) of brows and upper lips - those alone can cost $40++ . My only complaint is the sales pressure of buying products there (hence -1 star). I didn't buy any products at my second visit but bought as part of my first since I ran out of sunblock. If you don't need/want any, just stay firm. They may make you feel guilty about not buying but they can't really make you buy. :) read more

Quick summary: Stephanie is a miracle worker. I called Facial Plus at 9:30 AM Saturday, asked if they had any openings. I managed to get an appointment at 12:30, same day, and Stephanie cleared up all my acne and now my skin is silky, blemish free and glowing - I get compliments on my skin daily. Will definitely be coming back monthly for Stephanie! Longer review: In June 2013 I started using new facial moisturizer, because I thought expensive meant better quality. After 2 months of Burts Bees and Origins, I noticed that I was plagued with both chin acne and clogged pores (the flesh colored ones). I read the reviews on Facial Plus, and decided to check it out. Stephanie was kind and professional, explaining what she was going to do - deep cleans my skin and get all the clogged pores. I had quite a lot, but she was patient and went through ALL of them. At the end of 1 hour 15 minutes (Steam, extractions, electric wand thing, mask), my skin felt fresh though it was definitely red from the extractions. I was worried that it would stay this way and that my face was ruined! But, as Stephanie said, in 24-48 hours my skin calmed. And now it is completely blemish free with a smooth, even complexion. I will DEFINITELY be coming back here monthly. They are very professional and will clear up the worst of acne! read more

Skilled at extractions, really cleared up my skin (I had a lot of whiteheads under the surface), and she tailored the facial to fit my skin needs. When I told her my skin responds well to glycolic peels, she applied one that has really helped to smooth the texture of my skin. Gave me helpful tips, too. Fantastic service for the price. ********** If you are looking for an efficient, thorough deep-cleaning facial, this is a fantastic value. $70 for 90 minutes, if you purchase a series of 5, it's only $60 per facial. This is not a place for pampering and soothing facials (the place is also a Shisheido store, the facials are done in clean rooms in the back, but I could hear phones ringing, chatter during some of my 90 minutes). You come here to get a good detox for your skin. Oh, and they are Chinese, so while the English is good, it's not native. I spoke English at all times and had no problems. Everything was pretty standard. Steam, then cleaning, then extractions, then a zapping wand for disinfecting, then a cooling facemask, followed by lotion, but no eye cream or lip balm, despite my clearly chapped lips. My lady was very thorough in her extractions; I think we spent 30-45 minutes on extractions. I have acne-prone skin, and my pores were pretty clogged from recent poor habits (shame on me - um, can I blame law school stress?). Extractions were painful, if you can't take pain, I'm sure she can go easy on you, but it's good for your skin, so I suggest you just soldier on. Her technique was good, no scarring or anything. This place is no frills, so if you're into that stuff or just want a fancy experience this is not for you. But Facial Plus has the best facials I've ever gotten in my life. I've been to a few fancy places, and they skimp on the extractions, put a bunch of products on my skin, and the effects are basically gone the next time I wash my face. Facial Plus, on the other hand, does intensive extractions and they meticulously clean out every pore on your face. It can be a bit painful but is so so so worth it. My skin is clear for weeks after a facial there. The cost is super low ($60 for a 90 min facial if you buy the package).
