Disappointed With The Results and Unsatisfied With The Follow-up I recently visited Faces of Ridgeland during my annual summer stay in Mississippi for a simple Botox procedure. My request was straightforward and simple: At least I thought so. I wanted to address my horizontal forehead lines, a treatment I've regularly received without issue. I typically reserve more complex applications, like softening smile lines or addressing my slight lip pull, for visits to my dermatologists in Los Angeles or NYC. Upon my arrival, I made it very clear to both the receptionist and the nurse who would be administering the injection that I had no concerns about my glabella or crow's feet, emphasizing that I wanted to freeze my forehead lines. This preference was well-documented in my patient chart, as shown in the provided picture. The nurse suggested incorporating a few units to address the crow's feet and glabella, which I agreed to, as long as the primary focus remained on my forehead. In the end, she administered 42 units, which came at a cost of approximately $540. I didn't mind or question the price, I've spent FAR more elsewhere. Two weeks later, I was annoyed to see that my forehead showed no discernible improvement; the lines were just as pronounced as they were before the treatment. I reached out to my dermatologist in Los Angeles, a very experienced practitioner who also teaches cosmetic procedures to residents at Kaiser. He said it was either incorrect dosing or bad technique, prompting me to schedule a follow-up appointment, which I've just concluded. At the followup I learned that a significant portion--two-thirds, to be precise--of the 42-unit dose was injected into areas I had expressly indicated were of minimal concern to me. I was shocked. This seemed due to the nurse, who, while very pleasant, appeared to lacking in experience. During the follow up she said she wouldn't have been comfortable using more units of botox in my forehead area. I normally get 20 at a minimum. Her allocation gave me ZERO benefit to my forehead, which was the primary focus of my visit. It's perplexing why such a substantial portion of the dose was allocated in a manner that was totally antithetical to what I asked for. Two-thirds is far from "a few units." in areas I wasn't concerned with. There no way 12 units would give me the totally frozen look I asked for in my forehead. Even worse it didn't even soften the lines at ALL. 12 out of 42, that's not just conservative, it's a bad dosing on her part. Had she told me the number of units she was putting in each area instead of vague term's like "a few" I'd have requested at least 20 in my forehead and if she couldn't accommodate, gone elsewhere. Rather than acknowledging a potential error or breakdown in communication concerning the procedure, I received a lecture about how men require more Botox to achieve results. If that were the case, why didn't the nurse feel comfortable administering a higher dosage in the area? I was told it might be because I had never had Botox before and might respond better to Dysport. Oh boy was she WRONG! I have undergone Botox treatments dozens of times, as well as Dysport and Jeuveau. In addition, I have experience with various fillers from Juvederm to Sculptra, along with multiple Fraxel and Ultherapy treatments. I know my way around cosmetic derm. As a former model many moons ago I've had ALOT of it. These explanations might work for a less informed patient, but I found them disingenuous. A simple acknowledgment of the mistake or miscommunication, accompanied by an offer for a discounted touch-up, would have sufficed and I wouldn't have taken the time to write this review. I am more than willing to pay full price for a touch-up elsewhere to ensure I leave town with the desired results. Which is exactly what I'm doing on Monday.
