Owner is a nut! The other ladies who work at the Face Place are fabulous, but the owner, Louise, is not only late to appointments but discusses politics nonstop. This makes the most un-relaxing atmosphere. Additionally, she made it known that tips are "required" and should be nearly 40%-50% or else it isn't worth it for her or the ladies to even complete the service. Atmosphere is lovely and receptionist Terry is an absolute gem! Sure, you don't get a massage chair for your pedicure, but honestly, I've never liked them - they're bulky and awkward to sit in. I find the comfy lounge chair and warm neck wrap way better. I used to see Eva for my manicures, pedicures, AND 90-min Deep Tissue massages. If I could give Eva 6 stars, I would. I casually joked once during one of my mani-pedi appointments with her, "you know, you could be a masseuse here" and her response was "I am". And I'll tell you, this woman is extremely talented at massage. If theres a PhD in massage therapy, she probably has one. She is extremely knowledgable. I soon after started booking regular 90-min massage appointments with her. Absolutely above and beyond in terms of evaluating the current state of your muscular system and applying the solution that worked best for you while also making you feel extremely comfortable and relaxed - I could write a novel here. Unfortunately, I learned Eva no longer works there--which was devastating to learn upon arriving to my appointment. I'm giving 3 stars because the person I ultimately had was kind and all, but you could tell she was right out of school and her extreme tardiness and lack of preparation really dulled the experience. She also took way longer than expected and my "gel" nails didn't last me a week. It became very clear that Face Place just isn't the same without their top employee. I will never go back there. Spas are meant for relaxation - 2 years ago I swore I wouldn't go back after the masseuse went on about politics through my whole massage. Then I tried again, for a brow wax and AGAIN by a DIFFERENT person - I was ridiculed for my political view being different than hers. This was apparently the owner - I don't care what your political views are but please don't talk about the turmoil in the middle of my $$$$ spa appointment and if you do, be open to a different view - don't cut me off as if my opinion doesn't matter. I haven't had a professional pedicure since before COVID, and wanted one to prep my feet for a trip to Hawaii the next day. The salon I go to for hair care no longer provides pedicures so I decided to try this place just across the road from my residence at Hanover Crossing. While my technician was pleasant enough, the amenities were archaic and shabby. No bubbling foot spa, no massage chair. Just a tub of water with solution and an armchair. I had an about-to-split corner on my left big toenail which any nail technician would have noticed and secured with nail glue, but this was totally overlooked and broke during my vacation. My heels felt rough two days after service instead of being smooth and well-buffed. Will not return. Really poor attention to detail. I can do a better job at home. read more

I have always loved the Face Place for myself and the many gift certificates I have purchased over the years for friends and family. unfortunately today is the last time I will go there . the owner Louise should not discuss politics with her loyal customers. I wasn't going to write a review of my opinion on this business, but after calling over three times to try to resolve the problem with the owner "Louise " she never called me back . I booked a 90 min massage on a Tuesday morning with Jenny B. I was told my a friend that she would make me wear a mask during the massage. I called the Face Place before I left my house on a rainy day to be clear of a mask policy. I didn't want to leave my house to get a 90 min massage in a mask , I wasn't comfortable! The receptionist told me that they don't have a mask mandate in the spa. I kept my appointment and drove to Hanover with understanding there was no-mask mandate . While in the Treatment room Jenny told me I had to wear a mask and that her rules are different. I asked her if she was self employed and she said she was not. I told her I was going to cancel because I didn't want to pay for a massage wearing a mask .( I am vaccinated and have booster) Jenny then said "fine I will take a risk and do it anyway " this was extremely awkward and uncomfortable. I have called the receptionist and explained my frustration to the poor communication from this business and didn't get a call back. I waited 4 days and called again , nothing. This is extremely poor management and communication on both the business and the massage therapist. I probably won't be back because I feel disrespected. read more

I have never left a review, positive or negative, for any company but am compelled to because of the horrible owner of this business. My daughter received a gift card for her for her birthday several years ago. We finally had a chance to use it recently. I was pleased that they would accept it as it was older and looking forward to us both getting facials. This was my daughter's first. My daughter had been having recent issues with acne that she never had before and has been seeing a dermatologist for it. We were only at Face Place for relaxing facials and a girls day before she left for college. Nothing more. My daughter came out of hers with holes in her face. Not pinholes. Larger. I asked her what had been done and she told me the woman used a device to try to clear out the acne. I called the next day to complain and spoke to the woman who did my daughter's facial. She was very combative and unapologetic. Told me the device she used and that her face would heal in two days. Not only did it not heal in two days; it pussed and now has scarred where this device was used. I sent an email when we noticed that it looked infected and never received a response. Now, as I mentioned, her face has scars where this "device" was used. Later when telling another person this story I found out that the person who did my daughter's facial is Louise the owner. Flabbergasted that an owner responds to concerns this way and that she is still in business. Reading other reviews about Louise, I have to add that my daughter told me that day that her facial was also filled with talk about Louie's political views and opinions on men. I plan on calling again to complain about the scarring on my daughter's face but, where Louise was so combative and I never received a response to my email, I felt compelled to leave a review here. I would advise anyone considering using this facility to NOT. Go elsewhere. read more

Had a groupon for a facial and a mani pedi. Had the facial done and made an appt for a Mani Pedi another day (even though it would have been after the groupon expired). The woman at the front desk said they would do that - it was no big deal. When I was coming in for my appt the owner didn't agree with that set up. So I never got my Mani Pedi. Their loss because they have lost out on years of future Manis, Pedis and Facials. Ouch! read more

I've been going here for a couple years and love Karen M for my eyebrows and skin care. She is wonderful! However, when I made an appointment with Nicolette for microblading she was a no-show. Then to find out it was her second week in a row of not showing up. I really don't appreciate taking time off from work and driving there only to be told she's not coming in. The gals at reception were very nice, but the manager could've shown some consideration and let them know ahead of time to call me before I drove all the way there. 2 stars only because they acknowledged bad service and didn't charge me... I've been going here for almost 10 years and it's been fine. But after today's odd encounter with the owner, I can't spend my money there anymore. Sitting in the waiting area at The Face Place this morning, I didn't realize that the loud woman cussing around guests who were trying to relax, and letting her dog climb on waiting area furniture as she redecorated retail products and shelving, was actually the esthetician who was 15-minutes late for my appointment. I was just about to get up to quietly inform the receptionist that I needed to get to a client meeting and was going to have to leave due to the delay, when I heard the receptionist tell the cussing/redecorating woman that she had clients waiting. She introduced herself as the owner. At first I was embarrassed for her, understanding that we are all human and get things mixed up. But, instead of being apologetic for the wait, she asked me if I saw what she was working on out in the waiting room and laughed about not knowing she had any clients waiting for her. Isn't schedule the first thing she should have done that morning? It was an extremely odd conversation where she was trying to blow off the poor service and get me to feel bad for her because I'd interrupted her decorating session. I would never tell a client I was late to an appointment because I wanted to redecorate and sell them retail products instead. Now, more than 15-minutes late for what should be a 5-minute appointment, and after handling a dog, the owner of The Face Place was ready to put her fingers on my face -- including my mouth -- without washing her hands. I told her that I had seen her holding a dog and asked her to please wash her hands. "I was just going to use the alcohol," she responded. I told her I was uncomfortable and wanted to leave. She told me she didn't "want any trouble" and that she would wash her hands with soap and water and not charge me for the appointment. She left the room to wash her hands because there aren't sinks in the treatment rooms (sketchy!). When she returned (with dry hands) she kept talking to me about television shows and asking me about my work. I just wanted to leave. It was so strange, awkward, and I regret not leaving because now all I can think of is the breakout erupting on my face and how I need to find a new place to get waxed! read more

I'm going to break down my review into two parts: the actual space, and the services received. First a little background: I booked an appointment for waxing and was able to book time for 6:00PM on a Thursday afternoon. More on this later, but I wanted to note that it was very easy to book an appointment online, and I was able to get the time I wanted. First, the space: beautifully and meticulously decorated, and the ambiance is top notch. I loved the way the space smelled, with calming perfumes and colors. I felt very relaxed upon entering, and I felt that the front desk woman was courteous and professional. Off to a great start. However, I was taken almost 20 minutes late by Karen (I think that was her name), who did not offer any apology for her tardiness in taking me late, and who did not introduce herself to me (full disclosure, this was the first time I was at this particular place). She proceeded to make excuses as to why she was late, and was rushing around trying to get set up. Relaxed feeling gone, by this point. I felt that she was a bit rougher than she needed to be, especially with the area that she was waxing, and I felt that it was a rushed job. There was a knock on the door letting her know that the next appointment was here, and she proceeded to drop at least 4 curse words about how she feels rushed all the time and she can't take her time with the clients. This was completely inappropriate, considering that (a) this was my first time at this spa, and (b) the amount of money I was spending for the service. I don't think she got all the areas I had asked her to get (there is still hair in places where there shouldn't be, especially after a wax job). When she was finished, she immediately left the room without offering to help me clean up, and she did not offer any sort of goodbye or offer to see me again in a few weeks. In my mind, that is what knocked it down to three stars. Otherwise, I have no complaints about the space and the front desk personnel. Honestly, I likely won't rush back, but will instead find another salon where I can get a complete job done, without having to hear curse words or feel like I'm just another person that is being rushed in and out. read more

I was a little nervous to try this place after seeing some of the reviews but I was visiting family who live in Hanover and really needed to get my nails done. I booked a gel manicure and pedicure with Aimee and it was such a lovely experience. She really took her time, I didn't feel rushed in any way and her attention to detail was great. I come here every year on my birthday to pamper myself; my Birthday gift from my Boyfriend. I usually get a massage with Jenny Burg who is fantastic. I really appreciate her reiki abilities and her massage technique is on point. Today I came in for an hour and 15 minutes service for facial. I showed up one minute past my 3:00 appointment which was my own fault. However the greeting I received was very cold. "Come with me to the room... Need the bathroom... It's there...". No introduction. I had an appointment with Kathy. I felt that my service was not as relaxing as I had expected. It felt very medical almost and rushed. She is fantastic at what she does, she just seems to be missing... Spa etiquette?... I guess you would call it. I couldn't quite relax completely. I highly recommend this spa to anyone. I would just hope in the future even if you are their last client that they are just as welcoming and calming and relaxing as their first client of the day. I felt rushed out the door because they were closing. If I had known that that would be my experience I would have scheduled for earlier in the day. Disappointed. I can not express how lovely the face place and spa is! I went in for the very first time the other day for a spray tan for my upcoming prom and it looks fantastic! From the second I walked in I knew that it was very clean and nice. The staff is very kind and they even had a puppy there (and it was the sweetest dog I have ever met). I have never had a spray tan before so I was quite nervous but it was one shade and Karen did a great job. I waited 6 hours until I showered and it developed more the day after. The color is so natural and not orange in the slightest bit, with absolutely no streaks! I'm so happy I chose the face place and I will 100% be back for not only spray tans but for the other services they have! read more

I hadn't been to Face Place in a long time as the woman I used to use for waxing left. Decided to try again and made an appt. I arrived at 9:55 for a 10:00am appt. Happened to run into a friend waiting who told me she was in area so popped in and was hoping they could squeeze her in for a quick wax. At 10:07 the woman doing my treatment came out (7 minutes late, no big deal). She then proceeded to tell my friend (who didn't have an appt.) she was ready for her. Now I would have happily let my friend go quickly if someone had asked, especially since I knew her. But I was amazed (not in a positive way) that after coming out late to begin, with no apology, they would then squeeze someone in and expect me to then wait another 20-25 minutes for my appt. without any acknowledgement!!! Luckily my friend realized and told her she would wait until I was done. The woman seemed put off by this. Had a bikini wax and she went so fast that seemed she missed spots. I politely asked if she could make sure to get some areas (we were talking a basic bikini wax here, not anything crazy and she just didn't put any wax down). She stated she had already done those areas. I wasn't going to argue but later checked and it was a waste of money as I am not sure what she actually waxed!! I don't know why they make you go to a different room for bikini and eyebrow waxing but they do. So you then have to get all your things and walk back out and get resettled. Poor layout and planning. But I do so, she does my eyebrows quickly. I think TOTAL even with switching rooms I was in there 12 minutes. She didn't even look at what she was doing which was witnessed by the fact that she took off half of one eyebrow. It was so uneven and horrendous. Plus, the other eyebrow still had hair everywhere which I then had to go home and tweeze (if I could get it, so could she!) She was rude, dismissive and did an awful job on top of it. Went in with my daughter and Niece for a Mani. 1st & last time I will ever go back there. The only person that was nice was the woman that did my mani. The front desk clerk was rude. Has no customer service skills and makes you feel like your not good enough to be in there shop. I'm sorry I don't drive a BMW or a Rolls Royce darling but my money and time is just as good as everyone else! I would never recommend this place to anyone. Went here because I received a gift card. I got a facial and a pedicure. While waiting in the lobby for my service one of their workers sat down next to me and started offering me unwanted weight loss advice (I had just had a baby two week prior). They were almost thirty minutes late to get me for my first service and the lady told me it was because she was on the phone with Comcast for her internet service. She then proceeded to talk about herself and her family during my facial and it was completely unrelaxing. Next was my pedicure that was so bizarre, no pedicure chairs so it was so uncomfortable, feet in a bucket of water to soak. Also the end result was shappy looking and chipped almost immediately. Really terrible experience and odd time at this spa. I do not recommend. read more

I called in yesterday because I was having a skin EMERGENCY. My usually clear skin was having a crisis, and threw me into a spiral because of it. I called the Face Place and in the heat of my meltdown was failing to describe the problem. The courteous woman on the phone told me no problem, that they could book me for an hour for their latest appointment (I work in Quincy until 6) and that they could do a consultation to best address my concerns. I went in, and was taken in immediately by Diane, the miracle worker. I left there with a rosy but clear face and marching orders from Diane to continue my face treatment. I followed her instructions and woke up with a clear and youthful looking face this morning, and practically cried with joy! Horrible. What a waste of a beautiful salon. Aside from the women at the front desk the staff is unfriendly and all business. This place charging $85 for a facial is a joke... they are FAR from spa quality. Alisa did mine and she was awful. 15 mins late with no apology, no pleasantries and just wanted to rush through it. They put the mask on you and leave the room, what spa does this anymore??? How about use that time for a massage! I'm not paying you good money to sit alone in an uncomfortable room. The rooms are tiny and look more like you're about to get a Pap smear than a facial!!! I would go to Charles David next time. read more
