Environment & Ambience: Kabuki has a much wider space, calming music, great ambience, wonderful smells and decor. OnsenSF is a dining space when you enter and spa in the back. Everything looks modern and nice, relaxing environment despite being located in the tenderloin. 3. Hot Tub: Kabuki has a rectangle shaped hot tub as opposed to OnsenSF's square shaped tub. 4. Cold plunge: Kabuki has a cold plunge that's perfect for people who don't need it to be extremely freezing. OnsenSF has a cold shower with many heads in place of a cold plunge. Both are enjoyable experiences 5. Steam Room: Kabuki's steam room is also rectangular as opposed to OnsenSF's square room. Kabuki's steam room also has a shower to rinse off excess salt and sweat before entering the common area. 6. Showers: At Kabuki, there's also a line of stools for the seated handheld showers where you can fill a tub of water and pour it over yourself in addition to the traditional shower stalls, where OnsenSF only has the traditional showers if I recall correctly. 7. Sauna: The sauna was great because you could adjust the heat by moving up the wooden bleachers. There was also plenty of space to stretch out and lie down. There were wooden half-cylinder blocks to place under the neck and back to promote blood flow. My partner's favorite standout was the salt scrub they have that's free to take at the refreshments table. You use it to scrub away dead skin in the shower and steam room. My favorite was the bowl of towels buried in ice cubes that helped me keep a cool head in the hot tub and sauna room. I will say that the thing that makes OnsenSF stand out is their dining pop-ups, but there's plenty of dining options on Fillmore and in Japantown. I would definitely go back to Kabuki again. The experience was incredibly relaxing. Highly recommend.

Possibly the best bathhouse in the Bay Area…read more Kabuki Springs is tucked away off a busy street in Japantown and feels like a portal to another dimension, one full of warm water, a quiet atmosphere, and plenty of lemon ginger tea. I was instantly drawn to how intentional everything feels here, from the dark wood of the sauna to the sleek tile in the showers. It feels carefully crafted to be both modern and timeless, with the Japanese motif flowing through all of the design. Personally, I love the dim lighting in the baths; with no windows, it feels like time is suspended. Is it midday, or midnight? Sunny, stormy? Early, late? You can't really tell when you're there, and that feels like the point. It's an escape in its truest, most relaxing sense. Attendants are constant in the baths, which makes it feel far more luxurious than what the price would suggest. Cucumber, lemon, or plain water are all on tap, as are iced hand towels, salt scrubs for the steam room, and hot lemon ginger tea. I loved how cups are encouraged to be reused (I hate seeing the giant pile of single-use cups in the trash at other spas). I'm holding out hope, however, that traditional green tea may make an appearance in the future! I'd recommend attending on one of the single-gender days, as I found that lent itself best to the fully immersive experience. Shower sandals are available, though I found them a bit uncomfortable. Next time I'll be sure to bring my own. As a bathhouse enthusiast, I cannot recommend this place enough. I can't wait to bring my friends here to learn for themselves just how relaxing and rejuvenating the sauna, steam, soak, and plunge rotation can be.

She didn't massage the shoulders, or back much at all, and spent a lot of time rubbing the body, my scalp, and putting little effort into anything, The best way to describe it was if someone was just learning to massage, or just decided to give up for the day, but she's clearly been working there for a while given she ran the front desk too. Anyways, won't be coming back, if the business knows who she is, consider firing her because she will ruin your ability to get new customers and cause friction with existing ones. It only takes one bad experience to lose business, especially with so many other options nearby and in SF.

Unlike my girlfriends massage therapist, who was terrible. From the get go, her masseuse had an unfriendly, impersonal attitude, almost as if she didn't want to be there. In the massage room, she didn't use oil, lotion, or talc, and spent a lot of her time walking around the room. When she did deign to offer a massage, she only attempted to massage my girlfriends neck (a combination of light pinching and stroking), and briefly fluffed her hair, despite her asking for a full body massage that focused on her neck and head. Her technique seemed untrained, random, and without method. After complaining at the front desk, and paying for the massage (at this point I didn't realize how bad my girlfriends massage had been, else I wouldn't have paid), we were assured that the manager, Mr. Scott (?), would call us to discuss our complaint. It's been a week now, and no call from Mr. Scott. As a customer, you are at the mercy of the individual masseurs/masseuses. Some of them are great, some of them are definitely not. I wanted to treat myself to a facial during my last week living in SF. I was also going to be doing a lot of traveling over the next few weeks. I saw that this place had good ratings so I booked an appointment online. Since this is my first time here, I have no idea what my aesthetician looks like (context for later). I went upstairs where they were located and it looked like someone was working on another client's brows or something. So I was like "excuse me, I have an appointment right now". The lady instantly turned on hostile aggro mode for no reason. She asked me in a very condescending tone "are you sure you're at the right place? Because theres a lot of places nearby". Like what? What is that supposed to mean? Why would I be lost? There's only one Rosewater skincare on this street right? So I looked at the sign to double check, yup, it says Rosewater...and I asked "this is Rosewater right?". And then she said "yeah, what service do you have, who is it with?". I didn't remember off top of my head who it was with, but I told her it was for a facial. She said she would contact her colleague and told me to sit down. I double check my email and contacted the number listed on the email, no response. Turns out later that this number on the email is either wrong or not used. A few minutes passed as she continues to work on her client and then eventually she was like "you should contact heather, she tried calling you and said your appointment is actually monday". Dumbfounded by the continual rudeness even though I was nothing but respectful the whole time, I was like "ok I'll call her but I have an email confirming its for today..." I also asked whats her number because the one in the email doesn't seem to reach anyone. I checked my phone log and saw 2 missed calls (I get a lot of spam calls so I turn unknown phone calls off) so I asked if that was the number. To which she said yes. I was able to reach Heather and she profusely apologized for having the dates mixed up and offered to remedy the situation later today or this week. Unfortunately, that was the only time I was available. I work fulltime and every other time I am free, I have to do stuff for my move to nyc. I understand that people make mistakes and I do appreciate Heather trying to remedy the situation. But my interaction with her colleague was so disrespectful, demeaning and uncomfortable that it honestly soured my impression of the business. I really got the feeling that this lady was "judging a book by its cover" like theres no way someone like me could afford a facial in this bougie neighborhood. I did nothing to deserve this treatment so the only other reasoning would be that she doesn't think I fit the stereotypical lulu wearing clientele here. Maybe she was having a bad day but I doubt that cause she was laughing it up with her client...well, like they say, play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
