However, I went in for a wire and knew that I would be sending another one so I asked for the form, but they failed to tell me an appointment "is recommended". So came back for a second wire and was told at least a 30 min wait bc I didn't make an appointment. Another time, they tried to say I couldn't take out $2k of cash without letting them know ahead of time and when I said that's absurd, they said oh it's bc it's Chinese new year and we're anticipating large withdrawals. Another time, I witness a teller speak very loudly to a customer in line when they were asking follow up questions after an announcement was made. Once that interaction ended, the teller said something a teacher would tell students- we need to listen. I found that very disturbing given she was speaking to an adult. This branch is a hit or miss. Unfortunately, because this is the only branch in Oakland, us customers ate at the mercy of the tellers.

The branch manager, Shannon to the rescue!…read more Thank you Shannon for rectifying my account debacle. I can now rest in peace with my heart at ease. I went in today to run it back on what occurred last week during my visit to the branch and my bewilderment on how the issue was handled or lack thereof. Shannon could not believe it and will be speaking with the associate who was working that day. She was very professional, understanding and service/solution driven. I left the branch feeling far better than when I came in. Most importantly, still a customer, as I had my mind set to close my accounts with them and take my business/money elsewhere.

They told me I would be approved, and required a $30 deposit, which I was told would be refundable. They advised I could leave and would know the status after 2 hours. Was told that I had to authorize a statement in writing to close the account through email, and after two weeks, would receive the refund. So essentially paid $30 to be denied a loan, thanks.

I was initially attracted to their high savings interest rates, but working with the team at the Oakland branch (Yvette, David, and Justin) has been fantastic--they are knowledgeable, responsive, and friendly. Ever since I left BofA 13 years ago, I've been struggling to find a small bank or credit union that still had the capabilities of a large bank--I've finally found that with First Foundation. Their online experience is superior to any of the other banks that I've used. I strongly recommend checking out First Foundation.

I was greeted by Tom, home mortgage, who stated that someone would be with me. There was only one person, Traci Aguon, available for new accounts. She was on the phone heavily engaged in straightening out some business for the bank. As I sat on the couch awaiting to be serviced another employee, Ida came in walked passed me and never acknowledged my presence. She sat at her desk a few feet away from Traci and never looked around. How rude! Someone else came in the bank and just wondered around then she acknowledged him, I can't say race played a part or just ignorance. Ida began helping him. At which time Traci got off the phone and asked how she could help. She indicated Ida was the person to assist me and I informed her that I chose not to do business with Ida due to her behavior. Despite the fact that Traci had a lot of work to do and catch up on which she told me when I asked she put on her professional hat and began assisting me. She appeared initially overwhelmed but after a while things loosened up and we ended up just chatting and laughing. What started as cold and impersonal ended up in being a good experience. I stayed because of her and rated this branch because of her. I couldn't give it a five because there is still room for improvement at this branch. If you are looking for something different in a banking experience try this branch but don't necessarily expect a lot of fluff, people and gimmicks. While customer service is key to me, how a company recovers from a bad experience like my engagement with Traci says a lot to me. More to come as I begin to use their tools and services. Check back later.

As trustee for my late brother's estate, I faced Beacon Business Bank's mishandling of his fully…read moreperforming commercial loans, including predatory tactics, threats, and retaliatory conduct. After losing major depositors, Beacon preyed on vulnerable clients, escalating routine matters into predatory legal conflicts. Trustees were denied access to accounts, withheld loan documents left us in the dark, and confidential login info and documents were sent to unrelated third parties multiple times, showing negligence and breaches of confidentiality. Staff like Kristin Ditlevsen failed at basic servicing duties, including providing loan agreement documentation and access to loan activity, and David Funkhouser imposed unexpected, retaliatory fees and held the reconveyance release hostage after we fully paid off one of the loans early. To escape their misconduct, we had to refinance with a different Bank, yet Beacon tried to hold the payoff hostage, inflating unenforceable fees and threatening nearly $50,000 in fabricated "death default" interest at the final stage of our refinance to try and extort the deceased estate even further. Beacon unnecessarily brought in attorney Patricia Lyon for basic administrative tasks their own staff could not handle. She was utterly incompetent and useless, mishandling these tasks, coercing beneficiaries, and generating baseless fees. Payoff statements included illegal charges, and all transparency requests were ignored. Beacon's conduct demonstrates a pattern of predatory practices, incompetence, and unethical behavior. Any client, especially those managing estates or trusts, risks being overcharged, misled, or forced into legal disputes for services that should be standard banking operation.
